usually the desert in athens for instance is way smaller or they'll give you a shot of some type of sweet luiqor. They were very generous with the desert. Glad you love Greece man!

Man. You are always missing out on so much incredible Greek food. But hey. To each their own. I am a big fan of Greek cuisine, have 30 cookbooks of the country myself and can state there are endless dishes. But you narrow it just down to 1 tiny aspect of it. And that 1 tiny aspect of it is big ofcourse as there are so many Greek Streetfoods. But man o man. You are so missing out. You have absolutely no idea. Anyway. Enjoy Crete. exceptional food. PS. And yes. You were open to eat something else like the Greeks were open you up. And then you found out that just by tasting what they presented you it was wonderful. Now try the oter 10.000 dishes in Greece. Good luck

Gyros, bougatsa, sweets are great but they are street foods and not healthy. Greek cuisine is wonderful, Mediterranean and fully balanced for health. Try to eat homemade traditional foods. Most have both meat and vegetables and are always cooked in extra virgin olive oil. And never choose taverns and restaurants that have tourists. In city districts and in villages you will find good traditional food. On the islands you will eat very good fish, in villages of Crete you will eat very good lamb and in restaurants in Athens and Thessaloniki you will eat gourmet dishes with good raw materials.

That's not "dinner". You went out for mezédes, which is like the Greek version of tapas. Mezédes is just platters of appetizers that people get when they go to a taverna, not a main meal you have at home.

Food in Crete is very delicious and many products you don’t find out of Crete.Try also visit Rethymno and chania is much more beautiful cities compare to Heraklion and many good options for food
