Dude love it! Golf R owner and travel therapist currently doing the same off the blue ridge parkway...I do break down and get a hotel from time to time though!! Shit doesn't get lower that 150$ a nigh, down right highway robbery!!!!!!!

luckely the hotels in the alps (especially austria) when I go skiing in winter are pretty cheap (30-50dollars a night) so I don't sleep in my golf r. I'm also 6'8'' so sleeping in my golf is no option

Kinda wish VW would bring the R wagon to the states. That would be cool IMO, and I'd buy one.

How are you measuring 6-ft in the back, even with the rear seat folded. I measured 58 inches... not even five feet. At 6-ft tall, I'd have to remove the front passenger seat to even have a prayer at sleeping in my GTI. Still a cool concept video, though. Take care!

Oh the joys of being 5' 7"! Love it! I have a 16R lapis blue dsg and it really is the envy of everyone. I rarely buy hotel rooms either. But instead. I just recline the driver's seat until it touches the (firmly) the rear seat, always bring a top quality down pillow and my wool shirt. Within seconds I'm asleep. Hotel parking lots in dark shadowy areas are perfect. You and me both! Why do people spend hundreds or thousands on lodging? Hotel Rooms aren't perfect either: hard beds / mildew smells / kids noises etc.

A Planet Fitness membership is only $10 per month. They have a total of 1,500 locations. There are gyms in all 50 states and Washington DC. Other locations include, Canada, the Dominican Republic and Panama.

I'd rent a hotel or motel not just to sleep but to also shower. If you sleep in your car during your road trip, where do you go to wash up?

You can literally shower in the woods with a gallon of water. Just buy yourself a garden hose sprayer and find a secluded spot, put the sprayer in the sun first thing in the morning and the water will be warm by noon. I’ve been living out of my Golf R in the mountains for 4 months. I don’t stink, and I sleep comfortably. I own the car, so now I’m saving to buy land with cash so that I can build a house. Rent was heavily interfering with my savings and I don’t use credit, so living in the Golf is the best option for the time being
