The Cape Coral lifestyle is all about boating and living on the water. Approximately 1/3 of the nearly 400 miles of canals in the city are direct gulf access. A small portion of these canals are also sailboat-access, with no bridges to impede the progress of larger vessels. 2/3 of the city's canals are freshwater, and allow boating to interior lakes.
