Living with Intrusive Thoughts & OCD...

In this video, Lou shares her personal experience with OCD and intrusive thoughts. She explains how these thoughts can cause intense distress and confusion and emphasises that they are not something that a person can control or willingly choose to have.
Lou acknowledges that these thoughts can be very disturbing and can lead to intense fear and worry. She admits that, as a teenager, she struggled with these thoughts and questioned whether she wanted to have them or if they meant that she was a bad person.
However, Lou clarifies that these intrusive thoughts do not reflect a person's true desires or intentions. She emphasises that they are just thoughts that come and go, and people with OCD attach meaning to them.
Overall, Lou's message is one of reassurance and hope. She highlights that people with OCD and intrusive thoughts are not alone in their struggles and encourages them to seek support and help from professionals. By sharing her own experiences, Lou hopes to break down the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding OCD and help others understand that intrusive thoughts do not define who they are as a person.

Welcome to the Official RU-vid Channel of the Make Time to Talk Podcast 🗣
Do you struggle with your mental health? If so, this channel is for you.
Full confession, I'm not a mental health expert, I'm a family man who loves speaking to people on a very personal level. My name is Matt and I speak from my own life experiences with anxiety and mental health. On this journey so far, I have spoken to a variety of people and the more I listen the more I learn. I’ve started this podcast to create as much inspirational content as possible and the guests coming on are talking about their personal struggles and journeys in life.
➡️ Whenever I have had my own personal battles, I always get the most inspiration from listening to others who have had similar struggles. The more I speak to people, the more I realize we’re far more alike than we are different. The “Make Time To Talk” Podcast, covers a variety of mental health topics such as anxiety, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, isolation, introversion vs. extroversion, changing your mindset, overcoming fear, and more.
➡️ Let's collectively fight this battle together and start conversations others fear to start. Let's lift the stigma once and for all with mental health.

Thanks for commenting! Intrusive thoughts can be extremely upsetting and visual. That's what can make them feel particularly scary is that they can feel and seem very real to the person experiencing them. There is lots of help and support out there and here is a link to the NHS website for OCD. This might be able to give more information on the condition and what options are available for help if the intrusive thoughts are interrupting you day to day life. www.nhs.uk/mental-health/conditions/obsessive-compulsive-disorder-ocd/overview/ Very best wishes 💚

Hey, for those who are suffering from OCD, I want to let you know that it will eventually get better as long as you don't react to them. Focus on working, exercises, and socialising with people. Also, pray to God who can ultimately save you. I was suffering really really bad from OCD for about 2 years and now I am free from being impacted by those thoughts.

Since these intrusive thoughts feels extremely real, what if these thoughts are the truth!? God! I know how much I've been suffering from these intrusive thoughts about the past! Hi :) Thanks for commenting. Our intrusive thoughts are often just that, thoughts. However people with OCD attach meaning to them which can make it very distressing and as you rightly mention blur the lines between what is a real thought and what is an intrusive thought, especially as there may be overlap. If these is really distressing and causing daily anxiety then I would 100% advise to seek professional help as they will be able to really guide you through these distressing questions and thoughts you have in your mind. Very best wishes.

You are a blessing. I currently am experiencing intrusive thoughts which I never had before. This started happening around a year ago. I will be 67 this March. I did end up going to a psychiatrist and was diagnosed as having OCD. Yes. They can be very distressing. I am a work in progress. I do experience bouts of anxiety and depression. I am also in sessions with a therapist. I have been able to move toward a better place from a year ago. I am a work in progress. I will continue to move forward. Going through this experience has placed me deeper into my faith. Christ Himself went through the throes of intense anxiety while praying in the garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion. Hearing your words aligns with exactly what I have experienced. They bring hope for further healing. Thank you and God bless you.

Hi, These intrusive thoughts can be extremely distressing but the good news is that people with OCD can live a life where these thoughts don't get in the way. The key is seeking the right help and support to help you get through this time and manage these thoughts on a daily basis. I would strongly urge to speak to a medical professional and they can refer you to someone who specifically treats OCD. They may recommend some sort of therapy but they also may recommend some sort of medication. A professional will look into so many areas of your life and really help you get the clarity, certainty and most importantly the help and support YOU need. Very best wishes!

@maketimetotalk
@maketimetotalk 11 месяцев назад
OCD can absolutely convince you that you have BPD or various other illnesses etc. I know several people who have been tricked by these thoughts down all sort of paths and avenues as they attach meaning to their thoughts. However this is all to be done under the consultation of a professional and is out of this videos or our remit as people would need to know your history, in-depth symptoms and have a very detailed evaluation of you as a person as you may genuinely have BPD. It's important to distinguish the difference to symptoms and intrusive thoughts. Sometimes if you have had this for an extended period of time the lines can start to get blurred. I can't stress it highly enough that you speak to a professional about this. Good luck.

Dear One. Please seek help. You *deserve* it. Don't have to tell others about it, your gp can help kickstart you in the right direction. Or go to the mind website. Talk to the samaritans as well, they may have contact info suitable for you. Don't dwell or stew on this, it's a debilitating disease. I suffer from ocd and talking helps. I also, eat relatively well and don't drink alcohol often, just special occasions. I've noticed that alcohol can be a trigger however. Taking probiotics have massively helped to. The gut is the second brain. Get a notepad or jot down on your phone some notes, feelings and anything. Meditate and exercise even if ten mins a day. Every little does help. Wishing you the best.

I think one thing that separates ocd from non ocd is people with ocd grow up believing that your thoughts are literally who you are. Like your thoughts are your very being or heart. Where non ocd people view their own mind as nothing more than just thoughts being generated by their brain. And who they are is not their thoughts. Like your a bystander watching a movie and your thoughts are just a movie. So if a negative thought pops up no big deal because it's just on the movie screen. A person who has ocd is fine as long as the movie is playing good stuff. But once the movie plays bad stuff ocd gets triggered because the person thinks the bad stuff being played by the movie is from their heart or soul not just the part of the movie. Crazy how growing up and how we perceive our own mind shapes us.

Depending on where you are in the world, I would try and seek some professional help. It can not only help with the intrusive thoughts but help give you confidence that it's under control and you can live a full life without these thoughts getting in the way. If professional services have a long wait or are unavailable then I would definitely confide and talk to someone you trust, talking about it can make a huge impact. If it's a family member then great but it doesn't need to be, just someone you trust who will give you the support you need. Remember these thoughts are not you, they are "ego-dystonic" so they are not aligned with your values. Things can and will improve when you get the help and support to get these thoughts under control.

However the good news I know many friends who have OCD and with the combination of these mindfulness techniques and professional help they can really limit the negative experiences and live life to it's full potential without fear of OCD holding them back. Very best wishes, 💚

So there's something that gets me so confused about this. I was recently diagnosed with OCD, and I am not having these serial killer thoughts, but I am having other sexually oriented thoughts. And even though I do feel terrible for having them and I don't think I would ever do something like this, they do bring me pleasure, unlike what you're saying. And it's just kinda scary to see that it seems like these thoughts shouldn't give me pleasure.

This honestly applies to anyone; “mental health” or not.

Thank you. This is very helpful to me in my struggle to overcome intrusive thoughts. I call them intrusive notions, because I'm not really thinking these things, I'm just ravaged by the idea that these false thoughts are something I could have.
