Man, I held so many memories with my old iPhone 7 Plus! What a beast it was when it was first launched. Phone launches used to excite me so much back in the days.
My grandfather is still using an iPhone 7 Plus. It’s quite date sure, but it still works for him when all he does is just calls, message and looking through Facebook.
No, that’s awesome that they can do that, I wish I could’ve done that, but unfortunately, when I was younger and dumber, I upgraded to the 11, and then carrier upgrades pushed me to a 13 Pro Max, and now I have a 15 Pro because of USB-C.
The mentality, my parents have and what I grew up with as long as it’s still working, there’s no reason to get something new and spend more money on it
I sort of envy this guy. I wish I didn’t care about social media or tech that way I can be more productive and be more clear minded without all this nonsense in my head. I’ve deleted every social media except RU-vid for the past couple years. RU-vid is my only social media right now but even that you can get into some deep rabbit holes and again just waist time. You can learn a lot which is good too but it’s probably better for me to be without. Like he said he doesn’t need to know everything that’s going on in the world. If something is important the universe will eventually tell him and keep him up to speed. I’m jealous
@@TheoPhilpotI e had 13 mini 3 times the battery life is much more better than the se /and 12 mini better user experience overall this is only one I will use the last I had screen went out af yes r 6 months but I been using the se ever since then
I used the 7 plus for a couple of months last year , used it once every week a full day every week and it was fine even though I replaced it with a cheap x now
My dad is still using an iPhone 7 he got I think around 2019. Planning to show him the standard iPhone 15's when my folks are in town soon since he's definitely due for an upgrade.
Thanks a lot, Drew, for your extensive coverage on the certified refurb market. I've never been one to explore beyond Apple's offerings for phones, but after watching your videos on the topic, I was able to assist a family member still using their iPhone XR in finding a 14 Plus in great condition with 97% battery health, all for just $430! It's definitely opened up a new avenue for me. Appreciate your insights!
My dad had an 7+ he loved it. The 2 cameras were very good and the picture was good too. I was going to get the 12 mini when I was thinking of upgraded from my 8 Plus back in 2021 but I just needed that extra battery life which is why I got the regular 12 instead.
I had the focus issue on my iPhone 12 pro (not max) trying to get pictures of the total solar eclipse. It would focus on the solar lens that was clipped to the phone rather than the sun luckily I was able to figure it out before totality but for about 20 minutes it was quite frustrating! I have many well focused shots of my door panel and dash as well!
Ive dowgraded to iPhone 4s from iPhone 12 pro max, spent couple of weeks like this, then upgrade to iPhone 5, then to 5S for couple of weeks again, and now I am more than a mont on 1st gen SE - with iOS15 no need to upgrade further at least for now. I love the size, battery life etc. I replaced battery myself, thats it. Super happy.
i jumped from a 7 plus to a 13 mini too.. i absolutely adored the tiny size but the battery was annoying on heavy days (needed to charge 2-3 times).. sadly, i had to sell it and get something with more juice 🥀
I did a similar thing where I side graded to a 12mini as my phone. It is a good form factor and it was cheap. Works well with my iPad. I hate iCloud though, it’s such a mess to get out if you start paying for it.
My iPhone XR just started Boot looping, I’m Lucy I just got a fancy iPad I can use for a little while I save up for a 13 mini. That is the perfect phone for me.
I'm also still using base model 7, replaced the battery and the screen once. And it still works like a charm. No lags or stuttering at all. Battery a bit sucks even if it's new now (using a battery licensed by Apple, probably not so great) Other than that I really don't need an upgrade since I'm able to use my social media apps as well as Slack, Jira, our other work related software etc without a problem. I'd like to have iPhone 12-13 just for their sizes though. I hate the chin and forehead on iPhone7 :D
And I thought I had held onto my iPhone XR for a long time when I replaced it in October 2023 There wasn't even anything wrong with it - battery was alright, it was plenty fast for me, no damage aside from some scuffs to the paint on the bottom (just from my case rubbing against it over 5 years). I just wanted to try out a fold because I thought they looked cool, no real reason I _had_ to upgrade. Then here's this battle-scarred phone your friend held onto for two years more, and it's finally time to upgrade because it's...powering itself off and restarting at random several times a day??? I could never put up with that, gotta respect it.
It was one of the best Iphone of that time as Iphone 6 was under scrutiny because of the bending problem. I didn't get the 7 but ended up getting the 8 plus. One of my friend used it till 2022 and then he switched to Android. He has an expensive Android phone but even today he praises his iPhone 7 whenever we discuss about the best phones we have owned.
as someone on an iphone 8, who has been testing an iphone 11 pro max. im considering just switching to the 13 mini as well. I use my pc for most stuff and would rather not lug around a extra large phone.
I have a 13 PM, but my 8 plus still holds up, though. At least as a back up. I recently replaced the battery, no hardware issues. It’s basically in mint condition. Apple gives me $80 if I it trade in…
Yeah I pretty much buy all my phones used these days. There's so many good bargains out there. Feels almost wasteful to buy a brand new phone when there's so much good hardware that's just going to end up on a landfill.
Apple Tortoise 🐢 maybe? Because they live to a very old age. My 6+ still works reliably, if a little slow, and most websites including the ones I write, don't work on it. My work's VOIP app does run on it no problems, so that's what it gets used for these days. My 8+ is a very usable phone, no problems with speed or compatibility with modern internet.
He’s definitely not cautious and doesn’t know the value of things. My brother had a 7plus and he’s an absolute careless beast but he’s still looks 9/10
Ok. I’m not saying that people should upgrade their phones every year or two. Especially not when the average smartphone is so capable nowadays and typically can have a fairly long life if you take good care of it! But 5+ years is pretty old, for a phone. Especially if you’re at 7 years or more! IMO. And especially if you don’t take good care of your phone! Like this guy. 😂. He even admits that he’s kinda rough on his phone. 😂 But for me, personally, I don’t use any other computer so I like to keep my phone a bit more current and take really good care of it. My phone is 3 years old now and still looks like new. I do everything on it. My whole life is on my phone.
Frankly, I wouldn't recommend any iPhone older than the iPhone 8/8 Plus/X generation. And that's with a new battery and a from-scratch install of iOS 15.8.2, the very last usable version of iOS on the phone in this video.
This guy is so young and he isn’t on any social media platforms? That’s fine but also unusual, hard to believe. 😂. I am curious what he does for a living.
I agree to an extent… there’s no need to upgrade every year, but when you use your phone literally every day, it’s one of those things that’s worth spending the extra money on
