Thanks for the feedback Guys. I now know the 'Magnetic' is the paint type ! Oops, my bad, that'll teach me to not check it out before I turn the cameras on. Hopefully you enjoy the rest of the review. Ped :-)
The ST must be a monster because this is a beast .I had this Focus as a rental for two weeks my usual car being a 520d.I was underwhelmed by the looks and 1ltr engine but my first hour behind the wheel proved that Ford RS is alive and well . this car is a great piece of kit . Well done ford .👑💥
I like how honest you are with the reviews and gives more weight to what you are saying. If you want a reliable , family car then this seems to be perfect.
ford make super cars at real world prices for everyday chaps like myself. the st-line looks super in grey . we cant all afford high level expensive . i would be happy to own one .
Thanks for the review I found it really helpful as I'm getting an ST--Line X 1.0 125bhp in three weeks nice to see real-world mpg or a change that help me a lot interesting to see the difference in driving modes for mpg
Thanks for a great video. You cleared pretty much all of my doubts about the car, and mainly about this 1.0L engine. I'm doing at least 15K miles per year, but was not prepared to cash out extra for the diesel. I think I'll be just fine driving mainly in normal mode, and occasionally in sport mode.
One of the best videos reviews of the new Ford Focus Mk4 I've seen. It was a pleasure to see. I'm happily subscribing your channel. Greetings from Norway. :-)
ST-LINE looks really smart with its extra outer trim and larger wheels. The Mk3 looks smart too but has a slightly smaller boot and less leg room in the back compared to the Mk4. All Focuses get great reviews in general.
I agree completely about that Focus model. I, like you, prefer the interior over the exterior. All of its features (standard and add-ons), are an unexpected plus. Also, its fuel economy and comfort, make for a great commuter-car, you could take on long or short trips. I also think this model Focus, would be great to rent/hire, because of its value. Thanks Ped👍
Sorry you feel that way. Sometimes you don’t have the time you would like. We can’t be perfect all the time. Hope you feel you can give me a break and hang around for a bit longer 👍
Great review. I have a mark 3 ST line focus. Love it. No need for foul language slagging someone off over a simple mistake btw. Have a word with yourself man.
The focus rear is a little similar in styles to a BMW 1 series and also that of a Volvo C30 on the front. I agree that the rear has some great style potential especially with a twin set of exhaust pipes slung under, though that the front will need some more thought with design in several areas especially with the out of date grille. Looking forward to the ST and RS variants. Good video 👍
Having recently acquired a 20 reg 182 hp 8 speed automatic ST-Line X. I have established that you can adjust the intensity of the lane assist (low, medium & high).
Very informative review. I've just bought a used one of these. Really looking forward to picking it up next week. I think it's going to be a lot of fun😊
So the lane assist is bugging you because it nodges the steering wheel when you go over the markings while not using your turn signal, well easy solution, USE THE BLOODY TURN SIGNAL, you're not driving a beemer.
There are times when you go over or near the white line when a turn signal isn't appropriate. It's just an annoying thing but I know it has it's place ;-)
@@PetrolPed I have the same gripe on my Passat, there are times where it detects you are crossing a line which you know you are doing for a dam good reason and turn signals are not appropriate, for example going around temporary traffic lights or giving a cyclist a wide berth. Its a totally annoying feature that has to be switched off each time you get in the car. I agree with you!!
Getting one of these in a commercial car/van set up St line for work in the coming month........I am not convinced I drive a VW golf van....and it’s a great solid van...anyways it’s for work only and I ain’t paying for it ...and have my own Mini for weekend driving .. so we will wait and see if I like the driving experience....
Good review, thanks Ped. Front looks like...feels like...back looks like..dash copies...wheels, alloys copy...Kia BMW, Hyundia blah blah blah, and so on. Its a massed produced car so it is what it is. Full marks to Ford for producing a pretty tight all rounder. The 1.0 ecoboost is an engineering wonder (how much further can we develop the internal combustion engine?). If you want something different to stand out in Tesco car park buy an Arial Atom or a Lotus Europa, dunno where you you'd put the shopping though....or the wife. Just remembered, my first car was 1.1 litre. 65 bhp (wow!) Triumph Spitfire Mk2. Times change. Thanks again Ped
Thank you for a great review the best I have seen so far! I agree the styling is growing on me as I have a Mk3 focus . I think brighter colours will help the styling!
Hi Ped Enjoyed what I would consider to be a very balanced review. Have to agree about the front end styling, but I bet we will learn to accept it and even get to like it! What I do enjoy about your reviews you talk my sort of language, and that comes across really well. Looking forward to the Mustang.
Actually, you don't select if you will order lane keeping assist, because it is the next safely mandatory accessory for all vehicles. The good thing is that Ford has actually put the turn on/off switch in a very good place on the left lever, which makes it very easy to switch between modes. Also, the selection is not reset when vehicle is restarted.
Actually, I find lane keeping assist as a trivial feature. Remember the days that people thought that ABS vehicles are not "safe" as non-ABS vehicles, because they thought that the car would stop at a greater distance? I see the same happening with the lane keeping assist. I've got the Ford Fiesta Vignale for around half year, and I do lot's of miles. For the first months, I totally forgot about this, but at some point I started using it, but not for the designated purpose of keeping me in the lane, but for another reason that I think made me drive more safe. By driving long miles in a highway, most people usually don't bother to turn their signals when they change lane. By using the lane keeping assist, I found myself using the turn signals always when I wanted to change a lane or pass a car in front of me. If I won't, I will get reminded by the steering wheel that I am doing something that I was not supposed to do. This clearly made my driving more safe for me and for the people around me. There's also a customisation of the lane keeping assist, which can be brought to your level. In general, I find this kind of equipment useful if you have the will to improve your driving style and safety. Cheers. P.S. I drive a manual and the Ford adaptive cruise control is one of the best in the market. You don't feel tired even after long miles and time on the highway. I think you should also check this out if you have the chance.
Good review. I have a 2012 Focus Zetec diesel and it does 38mpg around town and 68mpg at 60mph at Motorway speed it returns 58mpg. That is the good points, The bad points all of the door rubbers on the bottom of the doors have fallen off a common problem with the Focus, other trim have fallen off or came lose and rattle. Ford have a long way to go before I buy another Focus.
Thanks for the review. I love the focus! I have had all the models and never had any problems and looking to get a pre reg in the spring. I have a 64 plate just now and I really don’t want to part with it. It is a 1.0 125Ps and I regularly get 53+ MPG and I do around 18,000 a year 75,000 miles and all it has cost me is fuel and tires even still on the original breaks! As for the sat nav you can use the car one and the Apple car play but on my opinion the Apple one is far better. You press the home key and lock the screen on your phone the press the nav on the infotainment screen and you can use it that way. Thank you for the video. Andrew
There is no need to combine Apple Carplay and satnav, because you can use the satnav from your mobile phone, like Google maps. Which is always up to date, unlike Ford's satnav. I have the Focus mk3.2, with Sync3, and I never feel the need to use Ford's own satnav.
The MK1 focus is still the best looking in my opinion. The latest version looks like it was designed by a committee. I should add that I own a Mk2 focus (late 60 plate) and it still looks better than the latest version IMO. The styling of the latest model is such that if you changed the blue badge and stuck a Renault or Vauxhall badge (or whatever) on the front you could pass it off for any other car. I agree with you about the rear lights of the Mk1.
Ref your sat nav query in about 2 weeks time iPhone will do 3rd party navigation apps in car play and negate the problem. I’ve got a mk3.5 with sync sat nav and it’s bloody awful and I doubt it’s improved. Not to mention it’s out of date he second you buy it, phone nav is constantly updated.
Correction the original focus didn't break tradition by putting the rear lights where they were, as you said. The Mk 1 punto did it four years earlier in 94.
Very nice video the interior looked good but to me the exterior was not as good as the generation before it. In other news Pete I bough my first pickup truck and as a American that’s a big deal lol. It ain’t new but it’s been a blast to own so far. I bought a dark blue Dodge Ram 1500 4 door truck. Gas mileage on that is about a average of 17mpg. Hi way is about 21.5 mpg. It also has a big v8 the 5.7 HEMI. I like it a lot and so do both my kids. Great video Pete keep up the good work!!!
I have a 69 1.5 petrol titanium auto...Love this car and all its extra's The gearbox is smooth and comfort excellant. Pleased I went for 1.5 as it goes like shit of a shovel
I think that the nose without the led lights looks awful indeed. I would however expect 17 inch wheels and both front and back leds would be standard. So far the st line looks the best.
Once again yes brilliant review loved it cannot believe just how good that small engine came out., have you done any reviews on the kia cars would be interested to see them, We have a Venga from new and it s been very good for comfort and getting two grandchildren in the back in there car seats of the car,Yes ime 70,so not to worried about high speeds its more about comfort on long journeys from Newark to Dover ,Thanks again the great thing about your reports is the in-depth, stuff, thats what i want to see,.
Hi Peter, glad you enjoyed the review. The only Kia I had reviewed so far is the Stinger GT-S, which was very impressive. I'd like to drive more. The new C'eed looks interesting :-)
Well I got my ford focus 1 ltr titanium X on December 17th I haven't done many miles but knocking around the streets fuel computer reading 19.5mpg !!! Went for a long run and fuel computer reading 21.5mpg !!! I've put £95 of petrol in since I got it and done 350 miles this is with the new 8 speed automatic
The small wheels really do a disservice to this car. Personally I would choose the 7x2 18" rims for the titanium model as they're some of the more unique rims in the modern car world.
Very professional review once again, can see you replacing `The American` on Top Gear. Just a small point, when sitting in the rear testing leg and head room can you say how tall you are so we can get a sense of scale. Big thumbs up
I think this is the first review of a Focus model within the last few years I've seen where someone did not complain about the interior (and especially the rear seats) being too cramped with not enough leg room. This obviously doesn't appear to be a shorter gentleman either doing the review.
This all-new Focus has such an improved interior, including much more space for rear seat passengers and a class average cargo space. It is such an improvement over the previous Focus.
Great review as always, almost like I'm there reviewing it myself. Great fuel economy comparisons, wish other reviewers would do the same so we can get a real world idea of what they're like. I quite like the look of the new Focus, just not in that spec, it needs to appeal to the eyes and Titanium just doesn't cut it for me.
I had a brand new Fiesta with the same engine last Thursday as a hire car to get me from Milton Keynes back to Wisbech, (Merc job again). Was a very sprightly lil thing indeed.
When I first saw the opening to this video with you standing with the Focus I immediately thought "budget / Zetec trim model at best", however when you announced that it's actually the Titanium version... yikes, I couldn't believe it with wheels / tyres like that! Ever since they unveiled the new Focus I was never keen on it from the start, like others have mentioned - Ford have made it too similar to other competing brands & models and seem to have forgotten important factors of what the Focus is really about, i.e. the independent rear suspension, by fitting an inferior torsion bar on the budget trims. Like you and others have also mentioned, the MK1 version of the Focus was and probably always will be the best - though I do like my 2012 MK3 just as much :)
Nice car, big improvement on the last focus. The 1.0 ecoboost engine has a terrible reputation in older cars. I wonder if this one will go bang in 5 years.
I think the Magnetic option you mentioned is the paint. Looks like the car is painted in the Magnetic Grey colour. I might be wrong, maybe there is a new magnetic suspension option for the Focus. However, great review!
Connect phone via bluetooth to use as audio only, then you can use SYNC for nav etc. If you use carplay/android auto of course it will use the phones maps, that's the whole point.
Only noticed as my wife's Smax is that colour. Keep up the good work. Really enjoy the channel. The quality and variety of content is great. Unlike some channels I like how you manage to keep the reviews interesting and relevant whether a supercar or more mundane. P.S. Still can't understand the focus design - seems to have lost all the panache of the previous version which is odd as the fiesta still seems to be ok. P.P.S. I have the same frustration with the satnav vs carplay in Ford sync.
Excellent review as always. Like yourself really not a fan of the styling. I think I would have to see a few on uk roads before I really passed judgement though. The interior looks like it has taken a step forwards though.
I've always loved the Focus - I've had three: Mk1 Zetec, Mk1 Ghia, and Mk2 Ghia (since moved to a Mondeo)... Its design is one of the most iconic among 'regular' cars - but this version is just unrecognisable as a Focus. It looks more like a Kia or Nissan.
Styling makes much more sense as an ST Line IMO. Genuinely good looking car in that spec IMO - but if you’re not into the sportiness, or conservative styling of the rest, not much to appeal here. They couldn’t bling the Titanium up too much otherwise they wouldn’t sell any Vignales.
Nice car... I've always liked the Focus since the face-lifted Mark1. If you find the "Titanium" a bit tame looking, how about the sporty "ST line"? The available 1.5 litre should be a bit faster too with 0-60 in about 7.7 seconds...
I'm glad that I am not alone with regards to your remarks on the Focus styling . I too dislike the front end and love the look of "Volvo" at the rear. It's odd that ford cannot quite get the mk 3 variants to look good from front and rear aspects.. The Mk 2 final was good. I am on my 4th focus now and in both mk 3 versions have opted for estate models mainly because the rear end is better looking than the hatch. I was not brave enough to plump for 1.0ltr, and opted for the 1500 diesel, in lieu of the 1600 in my earlier mk 3 which is sweet as a nut. The only thing l dislike about my latest one is sync 2 but as l do not like the latest styling of the focus , l'm going to hang on to this. Cheers
It's a shame that Ford has decided not to sell the Focus in the US after this year. The redesign is really nice. With no Fiesta and no Focus, the entry Ford here will be the baby SUV Eco-Sport. Time will tell whether this is a good decision or not.
Well it's not something really extreme but I don't think is that bad exterior wise. I mean even the Civic Type R grown on us I think. Ford has made a big step with this car (way better than the Fiesta even though they look alike in the front) Even the 3cyl engine have a personality (I prefer the 1.5 3cyl than the 1.0). Technology wise is great exactly what new gen needs. Not to fancy but not bad. The interior looks like a bit of Hyundai i30n. I'll wait for the St. If I love it I'll buy it. I think is worth it. The St-line I think is not bad at all. I haven't heard about the seats if it's comfy or too bolstered..
