I bought 4 of these nearly 5 years ago, have been wet, kicked around, thrown in and out vans and they still work like they should. I can't complain about them and I think they cost me $230 for the 4.

Bought 6 off of eBay in March 2019. Colors match across all 6. Color reproduction at lower intensities is not good. No issues with fan noise on stage (not more than the total fan volume from the total number of fixtures). This review is more of David’s opinion of China and less of the technical. Doesn’t mention that the master dimmer and strobe functions are combined into one DMX channel. Makes any FX with intensity swing values a pain. Doesn’t mention the general dimming smoothness (or lack thereof). No screen/button lock on the display. No option to turn off or timeout on the display (another use for gaff tape). No power chaining of the IEC connectors (shown but not mentioned). For $45 lights, I don’t think warranty & support are what people are shipping for. Let’s talk about the functional stuff.

Glad it's worked well for you, however, I'd really like to see what it looks like in 2+ years - over time is when the differences between the quality and the cheaper products really match up. Thanks for letting us know your experience!

IMO, trusted reviewers focus on the facts first and speculate on the longevity later. If all 6 last for 12 months I’ll call this a successful purchase. That’s not the longevity I want out of my ETC or ChauvetPro fixtures...just these.

I have some cheap lights where they combine the master fader and strobe. What a pain. Honestly, I wish fixtures did not have a master fader or it defaulted to fully up instead of fully down. If I already have individual control of each "bulb" withing the fixture, having a master fader for each fixture, just wastes one channel.

I gonna use it for streaming. Would be around 3 hours long once in a week. I was thinking just to unplug the fan while using it. Since I will not use like a professional party DJ for long hours all night long so it s ok by doing that?

We have 6 pieces of same moving head spot version. 15w RGBW . We purchase them used about 8 years ago. They have gobo and works great. We do several shows and they serve the purpose. Not much bright but with atmosphere they do the work. Without atmosphere we follow your advice to use gobo on audience or set or instruments on stage . We have 4 of them on back truss and 2 on the front of drum stage. They have small footprint, small weight. For transport we use 1 road case 40x40x100 cm for all of 6 plus Dmx cable and power chords. They are little bit noisy and it’s several drum mic ( on 3 toms, 1 kick, 1 hi hat, 2 snare, 1 ride and 2 overhead , 8 SE electronics condenser and 2 shure sm 57 ) around and I never heard them in PA, Flor wedges, in ears or when we recording shows. They are not so fast but move in black if you need speed 😉. This is budget movinghead , cheep , not so bright BUT if you’re not professional they work great. If you not use atmosphere you may pay least 15 times more price to see difference. About baying direct from China!? Manny brands by directlyfrom China put own brand logo and sell same shitty unit for twice a price. For non professionals it’s great piece of gear. What about all who will learn how to programming lights, dmx basics, develop own creativity? Buy cheep , play, learn ,sell, buy expensive . If you you are talented maybe you don’t need buy expensive units with your many. Maybe you do lights touring bands. And don’t forget to follow Learn stage Lightning!

I would like to see a teardown and fan mod. These are very tempting for a church youth group setting. Maybe just to get us started with moving heads then move on to eliminator stealth lights

Thanks for the honest review. I'm looking to get back into lighting (bars, small clubs w/ live music) and these were one of the models I was looking at getting. I may invest in higher quality if things pan out, but this really helps in my thoughts.

I got 4 of these. In one of them a piece of plastic was broken inside the moving head. Called support but they had a vacation. After two weeks they told me to go to a local repair shop. I demanded money up front, or better send them back and get a refund. They offered 30€. Still waiting... so I opened up the light and luckily it was not something critical. Removed the piece of plastic. They are still working fine. Mounted below loud vibrating speakers, outside, loading in and out. 20 gigs, still working fine. I take them apart myself (garanty is a joke anyway) and check for loose ends, changed the power cords and dmx cables. So it’s a gamble. Be prepared to receive a bad piece. I think these lights are the products that did not pass the quality control, fixed up quickly and sold on. But for the money, to learn and if you are not afraid to open these,they are the best.

I bought several cheap mini moving heads from China for the purpose of learning about dmx lights and to use with my mobile DJ business. The first Moving Head was bad and they shipped a replacement immediately to my surprise. So far, they are working great for my mobile DJ events. However, they are in no comparison to Chauvet, ADJ and other major light manufacturers. Now that I learned DMX lighting, I am planning to purchase moving heads from a major manufacturer. You are right, it is the little things that make a huge difference, such as UL, IEC, Prism, LED, clear instructions, warranty, etc. In summary, I am glad I purchased them but I am ready to move forward.

These do seem to be a very common light. I have 4 from a different brand and the fan noise is much much less. The fans only start to come on when they're at high intensity. Quite happy with them for what I paid, and for what I do with them (small bands), I couldn't justify spending more. Would be interesting to see inside them though.

Technically, there are extra holes on the clamp bracket you could use, which is better than nothing, but still not ideal

Nope, they reached out but unfortunately required me to give them a lot and endorse the lights publicly, even if I didn't like them. We recently did a programming job for someone who purchased around 50 shehds fixtures, and they were very frustrating. They were not as bright, consistent, or reliable as fixtures from better brands, and occasionally would just freak out and stop receiving DMX until we powered them off and on again :(

Have 12 of these in our church setup except under a different name. Haven't had any problems with fan noise, but one of them lost its red. Other than that ours are pretty good for what we want and don't blow the budget.

And that's the biggest thing @High W - every brand that makes these should be considered completely differently. Despite what others may suggest, I've spoken with many R+D folks from the large manufacturers AND smaller importers and they both tell me the same thing: While there are many of the same "looking" light coming from China, they are made in different factories and to different quality standards. Glad it worked out well for you, but it sounds like you've also calibrated your expectations well.

This might be a good idea for the very new and budget friendly people. Setup and show a small show using these less desirable products.

Cheers for the review. Price wise the middle or the road distributors need to bring the price down on their rebranded chinese fixtures, QC does not inflate cost by 400%.

When your entire business model consists of reselling chinese lights with your name on them you need a huge markup to survive.

I worked for a conference center with all new chauvet lights and the fans where to loud for use with the presenters, when they complained to the seller, the seller came out cut the fan leads and left every light died after that.... Quiet fans are a good feature to have.

Most of the light that you are buying in the U.S and Europe are also made IN CHINA. The trick is to buy the same models that they are making for U.S. or European markets.
@LearnStageLighting
@LearnStageLighting 4 года назад
This is both true and untrue. I have talked with many R+D folks from the major brands AND people that import on a smaller scale and they both tell me the same thing. Even if the model looks the same, there is a big quality difference between the "no-name" and the "brand-name". They are generally NOT made to the same standards, and the brand-name stuff is better because the people from the US visit the factory and check the quality often when there's a brand behind it. A few years ago I was working for a production company and we bought a "same model" direct from China that was the same as a Martin light. It was not close in brightness, noise level, or speed, and was very rough in movement when you compared them side-by-side.

I've just always wondered who actually manufactures these. Obviously Lixada and U'king and all the other brands just stick a sticker on it with their name, but who actually makes them?
@LearnStageLighting
@LearnStageLighting 3 года назад
From what I hear, many factories in China will make very similar looking lights. I know brands such as Acme and Golden Sea manufacture lights for the "big brands", and there are probably similar brands that do the cheaper lights. It may be one place, it may be many, who knows?
@bellum128
@bellum128 3 года назад
@@LearnStageLighting Ah so it's possible Lixada and U'king might actually have their own factories, but maybe they have a "schematic pool" that they share for the actual design of the light.

ONly harping about fan noise. What about the rest. Movement responsiveness. Is it 8bit or 10 bit res movement ? How far does the light reach in a darkened room, how big a stage could you use 6 of these in, does it remember the DMX address once set even if you power it off and travel to another venue ? .......................You call this a review, when you hardly even touched upon any of these ?
@LearnStageLighting
@LearnStageLighting 4 года назад
Rather than talk about movement smoothness, I show you at about 6:58 in the video! :) But ultimately, I don't feel the need to go further, as the fan noise issue and the fact that it's not that bright make it so that I don't recommend it for most users.
