From the heavens we come crashing back down into the thick of it in Liyue Harbor. We quickly get caught up in the hustle of the busy city as people and merchants clamor for our attention. But as the sun falls in the sky and the day turns to dusk, a new charm settles over the city, and a glimmer of its inner magic is revealed.

A Lantern Rite Journey
Part 2: The Heart of Liyue
This was one of the hardest arrangements to write because of how sparse it is, how much guzheng is used, and how much pizzacato the strings utilize. Then it got more difficult because I realized how many different voices or small motifs are present.
So my strategy here was the same as for the others: lots of 3 hand technique. Because of how the jumps worked out, it actually contributed a lot to the bounciness of the piece overall, which nicely replicated some of the elements I mentioned previously.
The second half of the piece after the key change becomes much smoother and more traditionally orchestral, which made it a bit easier to arrange. I definitely wanted to build epically here, which I think I accomplished with big chords and jumps. But in the last section before the ending, the original turns really flowing and sweeter due to how the solo violin carries the melody, but still retains some density from the rest of the orchestra and percussion. I couldn't rewrite and play every part, so I ended up writing a new middle voice that moves more than the melody to keep that feeling.
Overall it was pretty tricky to play. The three hand sections required a lot of practice to get used to, and all the changes in mood meant that it was like playing multiple small pieces at times. This is also probably the only recording on the album where the release on Spotify will be edited so that the ending sounds a bit better (I'm just cutting in a different take after the rests that feels better than this one).
But yeah, overall pretty nice. Hopefully someone else can play this better than I can some day.
