What I love about animenz’s cover, and unravel in general, is that there is a stark contrast between the sad and sorrowful, and the insanity. It’s more prominent in vocals, but if you know the theme of unravel, then you know as it reaches, in this case, the part with massive arpeggios, it makes you feel like you’re falling apart, with the previous section building up panic, sadness, and rage, before exploding all at once,(again, more prominent in vocals) into something that’s consists of only anger and insanity. I don’t know if it’s because I already know the meaning behind the song, but the fact that I can still hear all the sadness, anger, and insanity is really amazing and is what sets adimenz above every piano cover
Yup. I do this and it helps immensely. Its very important to observe your own playing and find the problem areas, then work on them by themselves, then slowly integrate them into the rest of the section and piece.
I have been practicing it nearly every day for a while now (since finishing double 3rds, which I did after jeux d'eau, which I did after not playing piano since high school, nearly half my life ago)

Hey ! I don't play piano but rather guitar but I guess it works pretty similarly. i wanted to ask you a question. When you say add chords to the melody is it like if the melody is playing a F note play then play the F chord on the melody + One octave higher. And also when you say "Add 3rd + 6ths to the melody" what does this mean ? Thank you very much for the great video and sorry if the questions sound a bit dumb I'm a beginner at arranging songs (And also sorry for my bad english)
Hey! By adding chords to the melody it's basically what you're describing, you're emphasizing certain parts of the melody by making it fuller with more notes. I think a loose parallel to guitar might be if you're playing fingerstyle and there are certain moments where you choose to strum the whole chord with the melody note on top instead of playing the bass and melody separate . Adding 3rds and 6ths is basically taking the melody and adding an interval of a 3rd or 6th below it, kinda like what a lot of backing singers will do during songs to add texture to the melody. Basically if I'm playing a C then I'll go either a third below it and play an A with it or a 6th below it and play an E. Hope that helps!

Fyi the G chord in bar 5 should be a Gmin7, not G dominant. It’s the ii chord of a ii V I to the F. Meaning you should play the Bb in that chord and it’ll probably sound more correct Would also add that since the chord change is happening at a 1/4 note level in the ii V, you would play the G in the base then play the V (the C7) in the next quarter beat (rather than the G7 you are playing)
