“ How am I supposed to….?” Oh that’s easy. Figure out why you don’t like “myself” and either fix it or learn to live with it. Everybody has something that they don’t like about themselves. Loving someone else frees you from the shackles of self absorption. (Heterosexually speaking). That’s how you love him. You forget about you! “You” become “his” responsibility and vice versa. The secret to preparing your life for possible marriage is not to “find” the right mate but to “become” the right mate! Otherwise you’ll meet the right guy but what would he want with you if you are not the right girl? Most girls today are common. Guy’s know that. Extraordinary girls stand out. If you do nothing you get nothing. Please don’t believe what you think about yourself. (Not you per say). What you think about yourself gets put to the test on the open market! The open market may have a slightly different opinion than you. Who’s wrong?

I have to say I have N E V E R walked out of any therapy session feeling B E T T E R. Somehow the focus is always on putting me down and down. The emphasis is on making me feel like I don't deserve to be H A P P Y. The therapy always makes me feel: MISUNDERSTOOD sad talked down to and even more all by myself than when I set foot in their Office. Lizzo's Songs remind me that who I am is okay. That having a panic attack is AOkay. I have had to learn how to deal with my Mental Illness without the help of Therapists. Because they always play stupid mindgames and I don't have the ability or energy to keep up with them. Sorry for the rant but I just think it's a stretch to assume everybody gets treated with kindness and compassion by therapists bc I for one do not.

I remember just recently I’ve had major neck surgery (thyroid cancer) and so they asked me to play my favorite song while they put me to sleep, and so I chose this. It's not about being insecure. It's not about feeling like you don't deserve other people's love. Its about how you don't even know if you can love yourself. the song takes a mature stance and says "Im trying, reality hurts and Im trying anyways, because I have to love myself first." Its not a body acceptance song and its nat a "Screw everyone im doing what I want" song, even though it starts that way. Its a song that's way darker with an upbeat tone. Most people don't even think this far deep about themselves. Wish her the best in her struggle with self acceptance. its rough. I really doubt most people like themselves. she's taking that idea that everyone can relate to rather than making is specifically about her. So even in her own climb, she knows every else is also trying to get up those mountains.

No matter how hard life is, the root of all suffering is the inability to accept faults in life, and the desire to change one's situation, before acceptance is explored first. Accept things as they are, even if they are not great, and be at peace with oneself. The rest will come later. This really is a song about self enlightenment, & also accepting that we are human & full of faults. it is okay to love and receive love, even if you are a full of faults. That is what makes self love & acceptance great, you can still love yourself even if you're not perfect.
