I always explains it like this to the westerners. Qin was like Rome and Chu was like Carthage. While the Xiongnu were like Parthians. And Xiang Yu was only 15 years younger than Hannibal.

Chu may have been conquered by Qin, but Chu outlasted Qin because Chu kingdom revived itself during the downfall of the Qin Empire and was then conquered by the Han Kingdom.

Scabbard fit will always be in flux due to heat and humidity changes. Also, some woods are more likely to swell or shrink Good review✌

Seconded - I hope to one day move this naturally with my swords. Much training is still needed!

cheers for the review! i found your channel while searching for opinions on lk chen's swords. i noticed that you seem to handle a jian with practiced confidence. may i suggest future videos on jian technique? there isn't very much quality content on youtube dealing with this subject, mostly forms from start to finish without commentary.

Love the transitional history of this Jian from bronz to steel. Would love to also get a Bronz version just like the museum.

Great review! Have you tried the Wudang grip method (where the thumb is between the middle and ring fingers) with the M. Chu Jian handle? It seems like the handle isn't designed for it but I was wondering what you think.

Good review. Just got the royal arsenal dao, trying to decide which jian now. Lol. This helped quite a bit.

How're you liking the Dao? I kinda want one. Also having the same issue choosing a Jian. Kinda like the chu but want a slightly longer handle and blade.

@@erichusayn I figured as much. I wish it was longer but idk it's also a perfect short blade option. And might be useful for getting back into perfect form. But part of me also wants to buy another katana or get a new long sword. Hmm maybe if lk Chen will do me a custom chu Jian I'll grab the Dao with it.

@@erichusayn oh just in case your curious. Wanted to change the metal fittings on the chu to Sterling silver. Add an inch maybe 2 inches to the blade and maybe an inch inch and a half to the handle length. Possibly lacquered rayskin handle. Better grip but lacquer prevents it from killing your hands. Also seen some old koshirae with yellow and red same. Figured it'd bring the look up at tad more. And I can etch a design on the blade myself like higher status examples would have. Might be able to mix my own gold lacquer the way it was done for katana nakago on high end swords. Or silver. Depends how the blade looks acid etched. If it looks nice left dark then leave it dark with silver. If not polish the blade back up and the etched sections filled with gold. Down the line might make my own fancier scabbard. But want something that won't break the bank is more accurate to the older Jian a bit of a bastard sword and looks like some of the fancy options. Don't think it'd cost too much though. And really only care about adjusting the geo slightly and silver fittings. Hate copper.

I like your review. Solid job sir. Did you get a Royal Arsenal dao?
@Matthew_Jensen
@Matthew_Jensen 3 года назад
Thank you sir. You put a lot more into the history side and have some good feedback on how they move. LK chen sent me an extra Royal Arsenal, breaking a second one seems like it would not add any extra value and keeping it seems odd. Would you be interested in taking it and putting it through its paces?

You mentioned that you feel like the taotie design on the scabbard and guard don’t really match. Was there anything in particular that lead to this conclusion?
