I received the White Serpent from LK Chen today and was excited to film this unboxing. The more I handle this sword, the more I love it. I'll be doing a few more videos on this sword, so be ready for more White Serpent!!!

White Serpent Ming Jian is a 1:1 replica of one of the most exquisite Ming Jian in private collection. During the Ming Dynasty, nobilities and high ranking ministers preferred Jian as their side arms as a weapon of self defense and a symbol of status.
White Serpent Ming Jian features a beautiful blade designed for cutting and thrusting. Both cutting edges run almost parallel to each other with subtle tapering and end in a almond shaped tip. White Serpent has the Ming classic Gourd and Lingzhi hilt design but executed in delicate open metal work, project a sense of lightness and transparency. Richly appointed with brass fittings and ivory damask wrapped scabbard give White Serpent a distinctive Ming era design
White Serpent represent a high point in Ming Jian design and the original is one of the most beautiful Ming Jian preserved to this day.

I’ve collected and practiced with many different swords including real antiques. I believe Chen is the one of the best swordsmiths of our time. That sword is incredibly beautiful! I may have to order one !

Probably the best-looking Jian in LK's current collection. Qing-era Jian are based on Ming Dynasty Jian and their dimensions/fittings are nearly the same. There is a whole menagerie of guards, pommels, blade profiles and steel that came from the Ming. Popular guards include the 'Winged' Guard (That looked a lot like the sword from Dragon Quest), the 'Swept-back Swallow' , the classic 'lingzhi', the 'openwork' guard, the 'fan' guard, the 'cup' guard, disc guard, 'rolling pearls' etc. My personal favourite is the Lion head guard or the '睚眦' guard.

Have interested in your San jie gun demonstrations. Will you pls classify them from Step 1, 2 and so on. So that it will be easier to learn for a beginners like me.

Hello everyone - I just received my new LK Chen White Serpent this week - excellent sword and piece of art! The QC issues were resolved at the factory and I am happy as the clam with my new sword. Thank you KK @ LK Chen! I highly recommend this sword and the company - I am a proud owner of multiple swords from LK Chen.

I always wipe my swords with a towel after practice, even if they don't come in contact with anything. I also use WD40 to keep blades clean for the in-betweens which helps prevent rust and corrosion. You can find places that have sword oil, and I personally use gun oil after a more thorough cleaning.

Just ordered a White Serpent - The looooong wait begins

Hi SK, I've had my WS for about a week now. It came with a very nice "silkish" bag. The white scabbard with it's brass castings is gorgeous. A couple of very minor imperfections in a couple of the castings but hardly worth mentioning. I went for the folded 1060 option and the bloke that forged the blade deserves a pay increase. I can't fault the blade. The plastic shrink-wrap condom left some stains on the blade but a few minutes with a light polish removed them. That's the good news. While the scabbard and blade are great the grip is sub-standard. The wood will require re-staining and due to either poor design and/or construction one of the brass inlays caught on my cotton gloves and has lifted out of the wood. The 4 brass strips are extremely thin and are only held in place by "thoughts and prayers" LK need to use square brass wire that sits deeper into the wood and goes under the rear of the X/guard and the front of the pommel. I emailed LK a week ago about the problem complete with a pic. Pity about the grip as it spoils what is otherwise a nice sword.

I received a reply and they are sending me some brass wire to repair the grip. The fault with my sword might just be a one-off but worth keeping an eye-on if you own a W/S

I also noticed that the tip of the blade shape in the video is different than mine or what's on the LK chen website for sale. yours is more point shape where as mine or production pictures suggested more rounder looking blade tip. Also like to know what type of the metal for the blade that you choose? thanks!

Hi James, that is such a bummer to hear! I did not buy this sword, it was sent to me to review, and I believe it was the second option (non-labor intensive). You should definitely contact them about these issues, they are very responsive about things like this. I did recently hear that they replaced one of their QC people so hopefully it won't happen again, or to anyone else. It is really sad to hear you got a dud, the White Serpent is my favorite jian from them.
