For those who flamed Mr Lee, pls stop. He is one of the main reason why Singapore is so successful. Racial harmony, safe living environment, full employment etc. Pls look around and compare with other countries.
I don't mind if they continue. Stupidity must come out to meet the fresh air and sunshine once in a while, if only so that society can remind itself what foolishness looks like. A truly stupid idea should fear exposure; if our mental antibodies are inadequate to deal with such a stupid idea, then we need even more exposure so that the countervailing truth will be clear, strong, and plentiful in the population.
@@boogie4943 Yes Singapore has racial harmony. I’ve seen the US have different races shoot each other. Which multi-ethnic country has done better? The way 3 races live together in HDB flats, seems like a unique and well thought out.
Thank you for sharing this. This video is so good. I watched every second of it without skipping. I was only 4 years old when this rally was recorded, and only now understand properly what a visionary this man is
Thank you posting this. Lee Kuan Yew was one of the few great men of history where we can see him and hear his voice and his mannerisms. It humanizes this larger than life figure.
LKY is very much like Bruce Lee doing interviews, their charisma lies in how firmly and confidently they are behind their viewpoints BUT with a suave seductive twinkle in their eyes ... and then they would suddenly pump their fist to drive home THEIR point. You simply do not get such personalities in local politics nowadays. Everyone's just smiling and overly polite without that passion burning in their eyes (PAP) .. either that or they are agreesively mud-slinging without any concrete stuffs to back up (opposition). LKY was a force of nature truely.
Be Formless. Shapeless....like water. Put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. Put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle. Put water into a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.
Ppl who acted out or speak the truth are usually not welcome. I will always be thankful for his fortitude & foresight that brought Singapore up to a country very admired & successful!
This video was 12 years ago. Today is another Monday December 11, 2023. My comment is to increase the comments 157 to 158. Because, in 2023, Singapore did a beautiful effort on our Singapore 58th National Day Parade. Kudos to PM Lee Hsien ❤Loong, the show must go on, for Singapore young and old. They deserved this national day celebration. Cc : Mr SHANMUGAM😊 President THARMAN😊 Mr Ng Eng Hen😊 Mr Lawrence Wong😊 Mr Teo Chee Hean😊 I love to listen to Mr Lee Kuan Yew's speeches too. Very insightful, and world affairs. I just love his (LKY) speeches.❤😊 From me, 66 12.41 pm December 11, 2023 Like father, like son. Articulate, emaculate, never dull. Cheers Ms Ho Ching
Amazing listening to him speak about the rescue of Nangyang university, now along with NUS in the top 100 universities in the world! What a truly electrifying leader.
talk to any real Nangyang university student and you will know if Mr LKY is really keen on saving the Nangyang university. My Mp will disagree with you that LKY wanted to save Nangyang university.
Hi b7bb7 Thanks for your sharing of this video. "Lee Kuan Yew 1984 National Day Rally Speech in English" Would like to request permission for the video taken from facebook video to upload into my You Tube account. for Commemoration of Mr Lee Kuan Yew's 100th Birth Anniversary, Thanks.
@52:40mins I learned this technique when I was doing my BMT in Nee Soon Camp about 30years ago. How to sleep without closing your eyes. Very helpful during lectures when Welfare Officer speaking to entire camp on the stage, and we have to sit to listen. Corporal and sergeant would go round the hall to catch "ciao" recruit sleeping
Alexandria School of Science rather have a dictator who everyone respect for developing the country, than an elected politician who everyone is disgusted with
Today's national day rally speeches these days don't talk much about economic matters through the years.. Past speeches were at least are with abrasive honesty about what we are really facing. Fast forward 2020, as we march forward towards next phase of national building , we ourselves must not look to old methods of doing things. Different situations require different solutions. Especially when COVID-19 have brought about greater disparities between income gaps, and change the way we live & work, decimating many industries
SO FIRST PRIME MINISTER OF SINGAPORE LEE KUAN YEW IS CHINESE MIXED HOKKIEN AND FIRST PRESIDENT OF SINGAPORE YUSOF ISHAK IS MALAY DESCENT FROM MOTHER AND MINANGKABAU FATHER.
There was no Facebook of any social media like Twitter that time during PM Lee's National Day Rally. Many people had to send long emails you know right???
16:00 - The younger generation starts of from a baseline and assumes that this is the natural order of things! And they want to rise from here! And my response to that is.... why not? Provided you are prepared to work. If you are prepared to give up your best, we'll reach up for the stars
it was called 25 years of nation building (1959 - 1984) Although we were a sovereign nation in 1965, we gained self rule from the British in 1959. Except for matters of defense, we were free to dictate our own policies in all other areas.

It is broadcasted on TV. Most adult anticipated his speech during then . I was small then, but still able to remember seeing my father watch Lky speech on Tv with full attention. I don't know why then, now i know.
They are a handful of leaders that when they speak on tv or live, u will ditch everything and listen.. Unfortunatley globallg there is no1 leader which is like that.. Maybe except Modi and Xi jin Ping
31:00 - [On the topic of political team renewal] Some prefer recruitment through PAP branches. Promoting the activist and the loyalist. Unfortunately, we have tried this for years and years, with such meager results. Now some propose that we create conditions under which we can appeal to the idealism of the youth. The same idealism which moved the older generations in the 1940s and the 1950s. How??
Mr Lee's achievements speak for him. A superstar leader. His son Hsien Loong is now challenged to take Singapore higher up the World Press Freedom Index... from a paltry 150th to NBR 1 He can start by freeing little Amos
47:30 - [On human rights] When you have no food, you tell me where you go? when you havent got a job. You go to the U.N with your rights, or IRO in Geneva -- all minimum conditions, minimum wage, or what they should get. Millions are unemployed! What are they talking about? 30 million in europe. You will turn up at the IRO office and they will give you a job? When you are hungry, you will go to the FAO? They will give you food? Or if you are sick, you got no medicine, you go to WHO?
Simpleton thinking. If u are always comparing your era to one of the best period of Singapore era, then u are just have another simple minded Singaporean that u see every day. The current Singapore govt, compared to many other govt in the world, has one of the best governance.
up till the 12 min mark: 1) Sg is becoming the HK of the past. Singaporean ownership of hses is going to drop, and the amount of FTs entering Sg is gg to expedite the rate. 2) National day parade is slowly losing the meaning and purpose. It becoming more of a show for tourist, and less of a connection to Singaporeans.
I dont think MichaelWithstand is very correct with his argument. but neither are you, if you define the corruption, then therefore corruption will be defined as such. crudely speaking political corruption is narrowly defined as illegitimate private gain. in the erm government context it could mean pegging wages. or gaining access to being in the company board of directors. controlling information to remain in political power etc.
to those who doesn't like LKY: don't worry, in your next life, LKY wont be your leader, Low Thia Khiang will be yours. maybe you guys can form another country like North Korea lah, LTK Hammer symbol very similar to North Korea country flag hor.
I was born a Malaysian. Like many Malaysian Chinese I'd have no problem living in poorer Malaysian with bumiputra rights and privileges. Having my Malaysian citizenship rescinded by a small group of men and to live my life as a Singaporean is not a problem too. It is however a problem to be associated with one of the biggest Ah Q's to have ever lived. I am a Singaporean and I do not owe LKY or any of his family/party anything.
lwc1029 He is a man, not a saint. You have to see how much he has done for Singapore, not to dig up his family past or mock at them. These are the traits of 小人。
