On today’s episode, we take a look at LL Cool J and his importance to the Rap/Hip-Hop.
In the span of nearly 40 years in the music industry, LL Cool J has 14 overall albums that have charted on the Billboard 200 Charts since his debut in 1984.
His incredible longevity on the charts is one of the most impressive and iconic runs of all time. For most of his career, LL Cool J maintained an important spot in Hip-Hop by lasting through several generations of Hip-Hop, whether it’s the 80s with Run-DMC, The Beastie Boy or the 90s with 2Pac Shakur, Biggie Smalls as well as the 2000s with Jay-Z and Eminem.
He was the first rap artist with a hit album and song in 3 decades. Nowadays Hip-Hop artists like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, & Future can easily release an album and debut at number-one with high streaming sales and not have to worry much about promotion, but there was a time where Hip-Hop wasn’t seen as the main genre like it is today.
Today Hip-Hop is the #1 genre in music and most of it’s success stems from the younger generation who often rebel. It’s said by many critics that Hip-Hop in the 1980s was the new “punk” which at the time was often frowned upon during the Gen-X generation. During the 1980s of the MTV era, Hip-Hop saw a rise in album sales and with that LL Cool J would be the first major solo rap star to be played on MTV.

@dee gibs Man,I've been saying that for years.look at his album Exit 13,radio 📻 stations never played it.there were some bangers on there too.look at his Authentic album.same thing,no airplay!(A jam,that you love.that be getting no airplay)But if it was Nas or Jay z,forget about it.it'll be on the radio all day long and all night.it would win every award ever.Jay z can make the wackiest album, and it would still get airplay and win awards.Something sounds fishy to me.Just saying

@@jonathanvillalobos7994 Yep! You are right! I can say that people like Jay-Z purposely tried to sabotage LL Cool J's rap career. If you think about it, LL Cool J could of had a top 10/20 hit well into the 2010s. He was a mainstay in Hip-Hop during the 2000s. I really don't blame LL for leaving the music industry considering all that he has done for SOLO Rappers.

@@spms52 Exactly!💯When Jay z was the president at DEF JAM,instead of keeping the hits for himself.He should've gave some to TODD.for example,he could've had Cool J, have a verse on Rihanna's, Umbrella 🌂(song) instead of Jay z keeping it for himself.plus,you ever noticed,Jay-Z,Nas,Snoop dogg,Eminem,and a whole slew of Rappers.Never collaborate w/cool j on songs?Uncle L had snoop on his G.O.A.T. album and his Authentic album.but snoop never has Uncle L on his albums.Why?Eminem,claims to be a big fan of UNCLE L.But never has him on his albums or singles.Why?according to COOL J,Eminem was supposed to be in G.O.A.T. 2,but the album never came out.then,in recent interviews,COOL J says.He would love to to a song with Eminem.Hold up wait.I thought he said he did a track with Eminem before?Its funny,because Eminem does alot of tracks with unknown Rappers all the time.but you can't make or release a track with cool j?For realz?

@@jonathanvillalobos7994 I think at that time in 2014, LL just wasn't confident with releasing anymore albums after the release of "Authentic" was received poorly. It was his first studio album to miss the top 10 on the Billboard 200. I also think LL has been over music since 2006-08 (especially 2005-06 when Jay-Z ran Def-Jam). This time he is ready and the album is already completed so I believe we are just waiting for it's release later this year or early next year.

@Nevin Reid 9 str8 platinum albums what are you saying 😆?! Plus LL is a 80s artist which like he said that hurts him in that category. Because going platinum back then was like selling 10 million
@1CHOZN7
@1CHOZN7 2 года назад
@Nevin Reid You're not understanding, by him being a 80s artist that hurts his sells because he came in the game before everyone else so he was considered old in the game when everyone else was considered young. Look all the other 80s artist as well. This proves my point
