From memory (and this is the same for all my reconstructions) I just tune the samples manually by ear so they are both in tune and sync’d to the bpm. I listened to this track and so many others obsessively when I was a teenager so they are ingrained in my ‘audio memory’ so it’s relatively easy for me to do these reconstructions. But like anything it takes a lot of time, passion and dedication to do them accurately and convincingly. You can’t just rely on modern facilities like stretching and warping etc, you have to do it basically in the same way as it was done 30 years ago.

From memory it was a low pass 4 or 6 filter with increased resonance to boost the low frequencies. You should be able to reduce most of it. Remember, if you are reducing the large majority of frequencies this will also reduce the volume of the entire sample. You may want to flatten it and normalise it. Use the unfiltered version and the filtered version in different sequences or bars in the same sequence. Put them in the same mute group so they choke one another.
