The unique high floor Leyland National Suburban Express demonstrator RRM 148M departs from Workington Railway Station during the excellent Leyland National 50th anniversary event at Whitehaven organised by the Workington Transport Heritage Trust on Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May 2022.
Thanks go to owner Tim Moss for kindly giving us a lift back to Workington on his bus at the end of the day.

I drove one of the first Leyland National buses for the Northern bus Company based at Winlaton Depot. They were a breath of fresh air after driving the old style buses with crash boxes. They were great to drive, light controls and easy to handle. Great buses. The happiest days of my life.

This is the unique high floor National, designed for longer distance routes (poor man's coach), so it's not possible to fit more than one door as the whole floor is the same height as the rear section over the engine.

@@ethelsshakybusvideos really? Are you sure it doesn't have raised plinths along the front section with the aisle the usual floor height?

@@jamesfrench7299 I believe not. You can see a large step going full width of the bus floor where the person is standing behind the driver.

The aisle in the front section is the same height as the aisle in the rear section. It was the only National built like that.
