WHAT CAN BE SOURCED IS LINKED BELOW This video was shared on Instagram Live on March 31, 2020. I have big dreams of creating a really slick "craft room" tour, but currently I'm not able to have my videographer friend over because of the current pandemic, and so this will have to suffice. I apologize in advance for camera shake (it's an iPhone, friends, and an OLD one), me addressing comments that you can't see (again, IG live) and any rambling that seems off topic. But I hope this inspires you to work with the space you have and enjoy the process. Dining room crafters unite.

From a fellow “dining room” crafter, I so appreciate you sharing your space with us. I absolutely love you, your great sense of humor, and of course your phenomenal talent! I was inspired on how to better utilize the space I have available to me. I would LOVE to watch a series from you on design principles. I agree that they are absolutely as important as any of our supplies. In fact i almost think that it’s more important! I have so many amazing products, but without a good design they fall short. I find myself spending more time than anything else just trying to come up with a layout that is pleasing to the eye. So please, please, please help up in that area. I personally would be forever grateful. Stay safe and healthy.

Thank you for sharing your space. I just started card making a few months ago and am ready to designate a space that is just for card making and supplies. You’ve given me ideas of how to organize and prioritize my VERY small space. I too love Jennifer’s craft room- but it is beyond what I need or have room for. I appreciate your practical tips! ❤️

I have this OLD pic somewhere of what my craft room looked like when I first started (ie the corner of the room I am STILL in!) I hope to include that in the new video, just so people remember: you can create with limited space.

So true story: we hosted our family Thanksgiving (about 20 people showed up) and I transformed it back into a dining room in less than three hours. One word: stashing. I stashed a lot of things in other parts of the house!

Table moving around? That would drive me crazy, too! I have a vintage desk that got treatment #3 below. Some possible fixes: (1) Attach some furniture cups sized for the legs to the floor (glue/screws), then put the legs in, (2) Put a piece of nonskid mesh under each leg, (3) if the table is against a wall, use small corner brackets to attach the apron or two of the legs to the wall. Love your videos! Thanks for inspiring me. I'm 72 and just beginning to learn watercolor for card making with the help of you and other talented RU-vidrs.

I like that you're keeping it real in the crafting area. I did my stamps and dies the JM way too. That has changed my life. Plus I store my pattern paper by color and not brand too. You couldn't see it but I gave you a thumbs up when I saw how you stored your pattern paper.

Hi Cathy! Thanks for the tour of you creativity area. Funny thing though I kinda jumped of joy when I heard about the cabinet you got built from the guy who made them for Archivers. After my 3rd child my first part time job was at Archivers in Coon Rapids,MN. That was my happy place, and where I learned so much about scrapbook,and card making. My heart is in Minnesota always!

WOW, I wish I had taken over a multi purpose room, that way I would need to stay organized!!! My craft room is in the basement & in need of excavating constantly. Therefore, you better leave bread crumbs to find your way back out! Also, make sure you have your cell phone just in case you need to call for help, ya know, for some rope to pull you out once the papers and stamps cave in on you, LOL!!! I think its unique that you have a craft room in your dining room. Love it. I love Tim Holtz inks too. I also love Simon Hurley inks and I am now getting Gina K inks and I love hers too. If you lived here in Colorado it would be fun to craft with you. My new favorite sparkling water is Soliel. You are awesome.

True story: that has happened to me on a handful of occasions! I've been at Target Roseville and have had people come up to me and say, "I'm so sorry… but I follow you on Instagram and I just wanted to say hello" and then I get panicky and sweaty but act completely normal. Lol! So if you ever see me, do say hi! Just know inside I'm freaking out. I hide my introversion very, very well!

I enjoyed seeing your craft room. It's nice to see a craft space that is affordable. My craft space is in my bedroom, where I have my stashes of tools and a desk where I can work on projects whenever the notion hits me. I started in 1999 at a Creative Memories party then about 15 years later started with Stampin'Up. I have Gina K. stamps and Stamps of Life dies. I have a question. I just found your videos yesterday and was wondering if you are in Canada?

Hey Linda! Yep, always been in the dining room here. And no, not in Canada but… all of my relatives are! My folks are from BC. I, however, was born in the US and adopted, so I am not a Canadian, unfortunately!

I throughly enjoyed your craft tour. I have similar shelves for my 12x12 papers they are glass slots that fit into grooves to hold separated. I really like how you have your markers stored. My scraps go in a canvas wall hanging pocket system. I think it's about 24 12x12 pockets. I have it hung on the wall behind the door and I typically hit it while making every card. My first look/source for colored paper. I just love your personality and I learn so much. I am bed bound disabled. So I go grab what I need for each project and bring it to my bed. I work on a tray with padded bottom and it works for me. Every October I collect cards for a breast cancer challenge. I ask everyone I know to donate throughout the year, and then I put together packets of 5 cards, then take them to the cancer area at Emory for them to give to patients. I typically buy a few nice craft goodies and for each five cards sent in, I give them a number. In Nov I deliver the cards and use an app that chooses the number at random, for the 3 winners. I send thank you cards to the ladies who contribute cards and make little videos for you tube showing the cards sent in for inspiration for others. My little way to give back.

There is a company that sells the sideboards (already made) that your paper slides in and out on. Forgot the name they also made boarding that hangers go on to hang stuff that archivers used to have. Slatboard I think it is called.

Hi Cathy been watching your videos today. Was wondering where you got the trays and separators for you inks in your IKEA drawers? Also where you bought the separators for your markers? You have a lot more space than me. I haven’t even found a desk for my area yet, I live in a condo. Your adhesive center separator is great. Can you give me any idea on what machines I should lean toward. Just getting into crafts since covid and staying home all the time.

The Gemini is an amazing machine, just don’t use too many plates in it and flip the plates over every time you use then, they will warp because of the intense pressure. I turn each plate and flip the every time I use them. It was the first thing I purchased when I decided to start making cards

It's 115 years old. It's as rickety as they come, too. Hubby won't release it. I would love to have something that didn't shake when I was filming tutorials. lol.

Hi Cathy, I'm new to your channel and I just have to say I LOVE it. Love that you prefer wearing PJ'S and hardly any makeup, me I don't really wear makeup anymore but it is what it is. I have also found Gina K Designs in 2020 have quite a bit of her products but wish I had the money to buy MORE!! LOVE your Craft/dining room, where were you when I set up my craft room? :O I could have used some of your resources, I will go have a look at some of them though. Keep posting ... please! so. the island in my kitchen has exactly the same beadboard as your custom made cabinet for paper storage and the adhesive center. It is also custom made - by my hubby. I also love it. And the little corner between kitchen and DR is the same color (natural maple) as all the cabinetry in our master bath. i think even the hardware is the same. the only part of Jennifer's system I do not use is the label maker. As an ex-drafting student, i have some of the clearest block lettering around. and not a lot of money. i couldn't make myself buy it. we loaded up on Polar seltzer. much the same, only East Coast. i have a gemini jr because i have psoriatic arthritis. it's amazing. . . although not so good you can throw your spellbinder out. your sentiment dies are probably my very favorites. hands down.

I have been a ‘Big Shot’ person from the word get go- maybe 2011 ish ? When I knew I was moving and space was at a premium, I honored the fact that my shoulders were pretty much shot; so I thought go electric. I managed to get a Gemini junior on sale at Joann’s . If you want, let me know how it’s working. I have changed the sandwich for the most part and now the ‘cutting pad’ that takes most of the beatings, is actually just that - a small (6 x 9) self healing cutting mat. Somehow, I feel better about cutting into them then the hard plastic. Your video was great. I like the idea that it doesn’t look like your room won the lottery 🤭 Please stay well

From experience, if you unpackage the snail tape hoard it will take up a lot less space in your drawer and you won’t feel as guilty about it. 😜 thanks for sharing your space. I would love a series on design like you mentioned.

Hilarious moment at 31:24 of the transcript... the voice recognition program recognized "La Croix" as "liqueur." So you were choosing between TP and liqueur during the pandemic, were you? Just kidding.... and "I think you know" came up as "thank you, no..." There are many other funny mis-recognized phrases in the transcript. (39:17, for example) Thanks so much for this tour of your room. I feel much better about my space now. You don't like your table and the space I use for cardmaking has a smaller desk than I would like. I chose the wrong bedroom for crafting b/c the light is much better in the other one, etc., etc. It looks like all crafters just have a ton of stuff and it's all in baskets, mugs, etc. I am very fortunate to have a master woodworker for a FILaw and he made me three shelving units for my wood-block stamps. Yes, I came to the spot almost the opposite of how you did: I was a card maker and a stamper a LONG time ago, tabled it for a while and now have gotten back into it. I have TONS of wood-block stamps and they are precious to me even if more or less shunned by current crafters. But they are mostly kept (the ones I can fit) on the shelves built by my MILaw. Other supplies are on IKEA shelves and now I have taken over a second spare bedroom because one spare bedroom was not enough (if I could have gotten rid of the twin bed in there, I would have had a shot!). Anyhoo... Thanks for opening up so that we could all get an idea of where you go to grab this ink or that adhesive or whatever. Love your sense of humor! Keep on crafting, mama!!

Your space is great. you know what I'm envious of though. The drawer slides! Ok silly, but my friend gave me the most amazing drawer unit from her garage when she moved, but the slides are atrocious, it sounds like a train every time they're opened. Do you know how expensive drawer slides are? Crazy expensive! Thanks for sharing.

Well I meant the drawers where you have your adhesive. When you have your shelves made spring for good slides. Mine will be expensive because I need 17 sets.

Mix and match and make do, I think that’s most of us! My biggest challenge is finding places to get rid of stamps, dies and other crafting items when I need to purge. Do you have any thoughts on that?

I would probably use that foam tape quickly as I make mini albums and use lots of foam tape on the covers.

I love the stuff. I feel like it's just one of those things I splurge one. But… craft foam is a great inexpensive alternative! You just have to add more adhesives, of course. : )

Place a piece of scrap copy paper between your scratched plates and die/paper to prevent marring your die cut. (credit Jennifer McGuire!)

This was so Fun. Have fallen a bit behind on watching tutorials and if you think you were a bit anxious over the "Live", you should try watching your video at 1.50 playback speed, as I've been doing with some of the less instructional ones.... Weeee! By the way, my storage is very limited, as I've taken over a spare bedroom, but have found my closet space to be a life saver. My cricuit and die/stamps bins are on a wheeled storage unit that can be brought out if needed. Something that really worked well for me was that I ran a short rod for sheer-on curtains, and threaded my multitude of ribbon spools on it. Works like a charm and by the way, did I mention, the sliding closet doors hide everything! Get a Gemini, you wont regret it. Take Care, be Safe.

Do your wrists a favour and invest in a Gemini. I have the original ( not the Junior). I do not have any other die cutting machine. I have quite severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and die cut several times a week - and it’s fabulous!

So the core of the costume is safe! lol! But… the hubby needed to make an Arthur the Aardvark costume for spirit week at his elementary school where he teaches, and the only headband I had was for my bee costume, so I made him some ears for his costume. I'll add new pipe cleaners to the bee costume one's and have 'em all fixed up by next Halloween!
