Check out my Patreon page / danielhiteshew Here's a demostration of my confidence in my loaches love for snails. I dump a few dozen pond snails into my 55 gallon planted gourami tank so my loaches will have plenty of 'enrichment".
@Facts Over Feelings Loaches like the YoYo loach will not kill off mini rams horns snails. That said, loaches don't work on all types of snails. You'll notice the loaches sucks snails out of their shells when they attack. The mini rams horn is too small for loaches to make such an attack. I understand this is a late reply seeing it was posted 2 years ago, however, I'm replying because others will read our post in the future. Like I mentioned earlier, I believe some snails are just too small to be attacked. For example, assassin snails will not kill off miniature rams horns snails because they are too small. The hardest snails to kill are mini rams horns snails. They are a pure (B). SOLUTIONS? 1. Puffer fish 2. Comet Gold fish 3. Chemicals
@@shockadellick Thank you very much for the tip, I just found out that there are some bladder snails that have hatched from eggs. Will yoyo loach help get rid of them? if no, then how can I get rid of them please??
I don,t know about the loaches and 🐌 snails but your lovely cat 🐈 needs to lose a few pounds 💷 getting on the tubby side. Sorry to spoil your fun but watet snails, and garden snails carry parasites that can kill fish and make humans very ill.
I have seen my five 1.5” Yoyo loaches swallows the snails in my tank. It does not necessarily happens right away unless they are really starving. But they will eat them. My tank was loaded with snails and in 3 days I could see a HUGE difference in snail populations and many empty snails shells.
I’m late but just got into aqua life a year ago. My albino dojo loach just ate the legs and claws off of my red claw crabs! And I’ve seen him eat snails. Rare ones!!!
I got a couple yoyos to help with a bladder snail problem in my 29 gallon. They hid during the day for the first few days, but the snail numbers were cut in half the first night and almost non-existent by day 5. Bought a third loach ad the loaches stopped hiding. I think a few snail eggs must have hatched as I saw a couple hanging out in the floating plants. Enough to give them a treat once in a while.
😂 Squeaker is saying 'C'mon Dad, can we make a video about ME for once? Oh yeah, and your opposable thumbs are needed in the kitchen when you're ready.'
Its mostly the botia loaches that are snail issues. My weather loaches (which are "true loaches" from a different family) have never shown any interest in snails, although they probably take a few of my MTS while digging, Rosy loaches are far too small to eat anything but eggs, and hillstream loaches (another family of loach) are different again. As with corydoras they like digging, so should be kept on sand, fine gravel, or similar soft substrates.
I have seen twice now a yoyo loach swimming around with snail meat from a big snail stuck on his face - it makes sense that it was from using the spine to get it out of the shell.
@@bevfrigon7142 not sure. i have an infestation of those trumpet snails. if you have a bigger tank, maybe consider clown loaches, they are quite active snail hunters. or if you need 100% results - some pea puffers haha
I have 2 gold zebra loaches in my 10 gallon and 2 large in my 40. They dont seem all that interested in my pest snails. I have had them for a few months and I have yet to see them eat one.
Thanks for all the helpful info! Sure enough I finally ended up with pond snails again! This time in my new 65. I swear I scoured every plant but..anyway picked up (4) yo-yos at my fav store but seems they might be too small at this point for snails. They are about 1-3/4". They immediately went to exploring and nibbling on every plant, rock, stick, etc. but one hit a few small snails and wasn't interested. I assume this will change soon? What character these guys posses, one of a kind tank mates. Soon to be my favorite..
I haven't actually observed this but I'm convinced that my Kuhli loaches are eating the Malaysian trumpet snails in my aquarium, the snail population has plummeted and the Kuhlies I have are very fat.
nice information and a look at the loaches. And Squeakers of course, you know he's gotta say hi to the internet sometimes for his fans! That big ball of orange floofy kitty!
I got a gold zebra loach and it was hiding a lot so I put some yo yo loaches in because they look very similar and the gold zebra loach became very outgoing. Then the yoyos died from internal parasites, but the gold zebra loach has stayed outgoing. He spends a lot of time with my corys. I plan to get more
Skunk and Clown loaches are apparently the only two species that eat snails. Skunk is better as it's a small species. Snails are beneficial to all tanks.
I had a out of control snail issue. To the point where my fish were getting sick. Bought just one loach. And problem solved. Took only 2 weeks for those suckers to disappear. After watching this maybe I should buy it some snacks lol

I added 6 yoyo loach to my 6ft 90 gallon diy tank. I have a snail problem. I hope that once they gain some size they eat them. Right now they are only 1.5" or so and haven't showed much of an interest in the snails. They are very active though and seem to enjoy swimming back and forth across the tank with the corydoras. Wasn't planning on adding loaches to the tank and once I decided too I wanted the zebra loach but my lfs didn't have those so I chose the yoyo. I've read and watched videos of horror stories keeping yoyo loach but it seemed that keeping only one was a common factor. I'm hoping that having six will have a better outcome for me. I guess time will tell
Had snail problems for years, the round ones and the cone snails. Finally eradicated them and was free of them for years. Decided to try plants again the past year and bam snails were back. Got a YoYo Loach but I think he needs help! May get a Skunk for variety, if they'll get along. I've been removing tons by hand too. As for the aggression, ran into that issue with the YoYo I had before this one, which is the first time that's ever happened for me, and I usually just have like 1 or 2 of them. The loaches will group with other fish too sometimes though. I had a YoYo and Chinese Algae Eater that used to hang out. Don't keep the latter anymore though because of how territorial and aggressive they get. But yeah given the cone snail infestation I have right now, watching you just dump a bucket of snails into your tanks is like madness to me, haha.
So I have zebra loaches and Kuhli loaches. I ordered spike tail MTS they look a good bit different from regular MTS anyways I got them to eat some algae and dig around the substrate in 1 of my planted tanks. My question is do you think my zebra loaches will eat them all before they can set up a decent population??? I have 5 zebras and 3 very young kuhlis.
You'll never have snails in that tank. Even a single loach will keep a tank snail free. You can toss them in by the handful and they'll never establish in a tank with loaches.
My Yoyo Loaches won't even touch my MTS. I have hundreds of them in my tank and have never seen my yoyos go after them. They got rid of my ramshorns and bladder snails but not my MTS.
I've never really had kuhli loaches, but my experience is that they eat any snail at all. A big mystery snail will either stay in it's shell til it starves, or get nipped to pieces if it comes out.
they never do what u want on camera snails are good for ure community tank right Snails are good for algae control and they clean ure plants that’s what I thaught am I wrong !?
The "pest" snails can eat the plants themselves, whereas the snails you see for sale only eat algae and dead plant material. I've never had the "pest" snails cause any problems though. They've got plenty to eat without destroying my plants.
So how can I tell if there “pest snails” I feed them to my Dwarf puffer I bought them online from Amazon for a bag of 20for like 5 bucks and I just let them multiply in my 30 com. Tank and they haven’t done harm yet, I no half of them are the m. trumpet snails because of there conical shape
@@mrgrump2534 Pest snails are "pond snails" and Ramshorn snails. There may be other species that are considered nuisance snails, but those two are the common pests in the hobby.
@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly lol i do same for loaches...they love them an i just drop 200 or so for 16 loches an 6 tiger barbs had almost all gone in 15 mins
Are you at all worried about giving your tanks parasites by live feeding snails from chain stores? I have some I just got from Petland and I have them in a tote that i plan to medicate just for the simple fact that chain stores are notorious for parasites in my experience.
I had just recently got 3 yoyo loaches because my mystery snails started breeding within a day I saw them digging their heads in the substrate and picking out baby snails.I was fairly surprised how quickly they got onto it and how efficient they are.
