Wiggly and beautiful, this small species is excellent in a planted aquarium. They are NOT shrimp or snail safe, but are wonderful with a range of community fish and have an exuberant personality.
Ambastasaia sidthimunki- Sid or Dwarf Chain Loach
Adult size: 2-2.4"
pH 6-8
Temp 70-86
Diet Carnivore, easy to feed

Jeez, thanks. Now I own a single dwarf Chain loach fish. Went to an lfs and was only planning to look. Saw he had some young healthy looking plecos (bushy nose) and decided to grab one. Then he said, I have a single chain dwarf loach that needs a home. interested? I was torn up as he was alone, and ended up walking out with one. Now I need to hunt down and locate 4 more to add to my aquarium. Should be fun. Oh, and he popped the bag on the way home. good thing I live close the the LFS. He's doing well in a 55 gallon long tank now.

I’ve just had them in pairs. They hung together tight, relaxed and remained playful, never nippy to each other or other fish. Plus only have 10 gallon. So 8 is out of the question. My two were no different than what I saw from yours.

I have a newly cycled 55 gallon planted tank and I'm looking for some loaches to put in there. I would like to get 3-5 total but I would like to have 1 of each subspecies, that grows to about 6" and a little bigger than the diameter of a finger. what would you recommend? the tank sits Infront of a window so as to help the plants and alge grow, so there will be no lack of food for them. any advice from the queen guru would be greatly appreciated.

They seem too small to eat nerite, pagoda, or mystery snails. Am I right in that assumption? I miss my Dojo loaches, but won't risk losing my snails because I think they're super important. I wonder if these little dudes could be a suitable replacement. Nothing beats loaches and Corys in the fun department.
@RachelOLeary
@RachelOLeary 8 лет назад
+Jon Michael Snyder I would be concerned they may harass them but nerites would be the most likely to survive them

10 $? Wow... one of the reasons why I never got sidthimunkis is the price... they're about 18-22 $ in my country. (Compared to the 3-9 $ or so, for most other loach species...) So a group of 10 or more --would swallow a huge chunk of the aquarium budget...

On the topic of loaches.....I have a single clown that I'm trying in a 75g community tank. He seems to be in "high drive"/overactive stage. Possibly stressed? Showed early ich stages (thank God only fish so far affected but that's another topic!) :-) In your opinion will he adjust someday and calm down or was it a bad idea for me to try to raise only 1? Or are clowns just super energetic?

Hey Rachel, I just started two weeks ago into the hobby and I have the Fluval Spec 3 tank. I got everything I need to have fish and the water been cycling but even tho I did everything right I managed to bring around a dozen bladder snails with a crypt plant that was giving to me from a co-worker. In another video you mentioned that these snails get worst in breeding but I don't think i want none of them in there. I don't want to start all over from scratch from what other people told me to do. For the size of my tank what species can I have that will eat these tiny snails?

+rudesucker I have them in with adult yamato/amano and so far it's fine. I would worry that they would harass nerites but it's worth exploring. I haven't had issues with them uprooting plants in the past, but I don't generally do delicate carpet plants so cannot speak to that
