@@billhatcher2984 I have also used that bullet with great results. The Ballistic Silvertip in the Winchester Supereme line is the same thing just with their black coating. I have seen first hand how it will give a doe a dirt nap. I also use the sst in 150 grn for my .308 Winchester and 150 grn Ballistic Tip.

Hi Gavin. My wife hunts here in Germany with a Tikka in .25-06 and has been very satisfied with it for many years. She shoots exclusively lead-free bullets from the German manufacturer Reichenberger for this purpose. Since these are relatively costly, we practice on the range with the following lab load: Kaliber: .25-06 Remington Geschoß: 87gr TNT HP Pulver: 42,0gr Vihtavuori N150 Redding Powderfiller: 35,43 Zünder: Fed. LR Match Hülse: RWS 7 x 64 (reshaped) O.A.L.: 81,6mm geladen am: 14.02.2020 I do not guarantee for loading data!

I never heard of 25-06 until I saw you guys talking about it on your channel....... I have always used my Remington 7400 308 semi auto...... I inherited my grandpas guns when he passed away. He had two 30-06's so my 2 daughters has been using them for hunting since....... They are very good and reliable hunting guns. Always used factory ammo in them all...... I just got into reloading rifle this year so I am still learning..

I have a 25-06 that my uncle made on a Mauser action. It was my father's deer and varmint rifle and he gave it to me a few years ago. I don't have the die set to reload for it yet so I've just shot it recently with some factory ammo. I put a video up showing that shooting session. This video gave me some ideas on loads to work up if I can find the powders. I appreciate the info.

At one time back in the day I bought a Rem 700 in 244 but was looking for a "real" varmint rifle and stumbled on a Ruger M77 in 25/06 with the heavy varmint barrel. That rifle was smooth as glass and locked up like a steel vault door. I was shooting a 87gr Sierra varmint bullet with big charges of IMR 4350 and 400-500 yard shots on woodchucks across a farmers field were very doable. The 244 went to a buddy and another had a 243 and between the 3 of us many chucks fell, we were loading and shooting together and had a ball. Years later I used that 25/06 for some deer hunting in the Adirondack mountains, because of the impossibly heavy foliage I was shooting across valleys and down ravine's from a tree stand. Speer 120's got the job done with authority again pushed by charges of IMR 4350. High shoulder shots were the norm because you needed your quarry to be DRT, you could literally loose a animal in 30 yards if not. That Ruger never let me down and the 25/06 always was a top notch performer.

Grew to hunting with a25:06 Ackley Improved. Loved that gun but my brother ended up with that one. I just got ahold of a quarter bore that is less common but more economical to hand load while having about the same performance of the 25:06 - .257 Roberts Ackley Improved. Shot a big muly buck with it this year.

I am currently loading my 25-06 with a Badlands precision BD-2 95gr. solid copper bullet using IMR-4831 powder and getting 3550fps in a 22" barrel. I shot this over the weekend doing some OCW testing and found a wide band of charges that formed a 2" group at 400 yards. I will be taking this rifle on my Wyoming antelope hunt this fall. Previous to this bullet, I had been using a nosler accubond 110gr bullet with H4831 and have taken many deer with that load.

I love the 25 cal. I've had 2 25-06 rifles, a Browning A bolt and my favorite which I have had for years is the Savage 110LH tactical with a bull barrel. Where I live the 100 gr Nosler ballistic tip is the bullet of choice. I also have a custom 257stw shooting the same bullet right at 3900 fps. I only use it for hunting so it will last my lifetime and it is instant death on whatever is on the other end. It shoots less than half inch groups with the Hart 26 inch no. 5 barrel. It's not for sale as long as I can still shoot. RL 25 is the powder that powers the bullets.

I have a Mec Marksman and I kind of regret getting the Hornady lock n load for it. It’s a little difficult to set up a sizing die because backing the die out unlocks the bushing from the press. Not to mention if you reload for over a dozen calibers, you’re going to need to buy all those lock n load bushings.

I have been all copper on game since 2006 by choice since my .243 loved them with handloads and would stack 5 shots at 100 in about the size of a dime. They open quick and penetrate through and through every time. I have shot a muley blacktail cross at 600 with a 85 grainer out of that .243 and it opened completly and passed through, that deer is the only time I have ever recovered part of one as a petal was burried in the far side rib and tore off after taking a ventrical off the heart and gelling the back lung. Also shot a very small sitka blacktail with a 30-06 with a 165 grain barnes the other day and it left an exit the size of a baseball on a relativly thin deer. Both dropped where they stood and gave one head flip. I used that .243 with 85 grain barnes for everything in my late teens and early 20s and took muleys, elk, and blackbear with it and they all dropped where they stood so couldnt be happier and will never shoot bonded at anything but paper if I have the choice.

I have found that 117 and 120 grain bullets generally do not shoot that well in the standard 1-10" twist factory barrels. I have also found that, depending on the powder, magnum primers like the CCI 250 can provide better accuracy. Excellent advice overall in this presentation.

I'm a 25 cal fan too. I have two 25-45 Sharps that I built. I have always loved the Ruger No1, but never owned one. About one and a half years ago, I bought a neglected No 1 in 25-06 with a heavy barrel. The stock was cracked and it was rusted enough that the action was frozen. I completely rebuilt it, had it cerakoted, and repaired/refinished the stock. It is a tack driver and I love it. Shot 3/4" group with factory 100gr ammo the first time I took it out. I shot my first whitetail with it this year. I'm also getting ready to start reloading for it.

The design of the cartridge may have been 100 years ago, but the .25-06 was basically a ‘wildcatter’ until Remington produced a factory cartridge in 1969. In my opinion, the flaw with the .25-06 is in its bullet design. Give the .25-06 a modern engineered projectile like the 6.5 creedmore and it would become an instant hit. It already has quite a few attributes over the 6.5.

Advice on brands of dies for PRS type loads? For 25-06AI, so most "common" brands don't seem to have it. Currently have an RCBS Rockchucker.

Gavin, I've been watching your channel for awhile. I have found all of your content very informative. However, there is one cartridge that I have not seen covered, the 6.5-06. I would love to see you work up a load using the Hornady 153 A-Tip.

I built a 6.5/06 about 1995. I have enjoyed it for many years. IINM Asquare legitimatized this caliber. My gun is right on heels of published 264Win mag loads with its 25" bbl. Id enjoy that video as well Gavin.

Had a Model 70 FWT in 25-'06 for a few years. It was a gorgeous rifle, accuracy was decent, but when you already have a 243 and a 270 Winchester, the 25-'06 kind of just stays in the gun safe. I sold it to buy a new JDJ barrel for my Contender.

I have a LH Tactical hvy barrel. Says tactical on the bolt. I believe I got it in 1990. I've been killing coyotes and deer with Barnes copper ever since. I've harvested many whitetails. Coppers almost always go through and deer run zero to 50 yds after the shot, spray painting both sides of the path. The coppers don't leave lead bits in the meat! I bought some 75 Vmax to try on coyotes and p. dog's. A bit less expensive. I run a 115 tsx with 50 gr. of IMR4831. I'm going to try LRX'S next.

My first rifle was a r700 in 25-06, shoots good enough with factory rounds but way better with hand load, 42gr ADi 2209 and the horady 117gr hpbt drops anything on Aus no worries at all Only thing is it is not a target round and I don’t think I could ever compare it to the 6.5mm calibres

I bought a used Mauser built 25-06 a few years back for a deer rifle. Loaded up some 117gr soft points with IMR 4350 and hit the range. Five bullets made five perfect boat shaped holes in the target at 25 yards! Turns out the rifle has a 1:14” twist and won’t stabilize anything over 100gr or 1” long. It would shoot the Hornady 100gr sp’s decently, at which point they discontinued them… 😡 The 87gr Speer Hot-Cor’s work well enough out of it.

@@guyminer2384 I would love to get this barrel bullet combo figured out as I am wanting it to be my hunting rifle this year and beyond. If I may I'd like to share this rifles origin, my father hunted with a Rem 700 bdl varmint special that he bought from an Aurora, Co SWAT member in 1972; he bought it from the gentleman in the parking lot of a sporting good store (that's a story all in itself) and he took plenty Mule Deer here in Colorado through the years with it, I even took my first buck with it hunting with him. Unfortunately through the years this rifle has been "shot out" and when he passed I decided to leave the rifle alone and just enjoy it for what it is. This leads me into the situation I'm in now A tribute rifle that I have had built...and asking for advice. I appreciated hearing from you, thank you.

I liked your video on the Remington 25-06 which is a outstanding caliber . The only problem I found was the poor selection of heavy grain hunting bullets from 100 grain up to 120 . Why are there not more companies designing or testing a variety of bullets for this caliber , I mean ballistics are there along with energy ? I have not tested the Barns bullet yet but it seem to be a winner for hunting deer size game and all I've shot was the ballistic tip , 100 grain and 117 grain bullet which works fine as far as accuracy and stopping power . The 120 grain Speer soft point is a keeper when you can find them , and that brings me back to the original point , why not more options with this fine caliber ? Just a thought !!!! Keep up the good work Gavin Dave Cook

@@duckwacker8720 only problem is the standard 1:10 twist will not stabilize the heavier bullets. Need at least a 1:8 twist recommended by berger for their 133 and 135 gr bullets. Speer has the same recommendation on their 130 gr bullets.
