Reviewing the fit and finish and function of the Savage Axis XP, chambered in 25-06. Spoiler Alert, it is a very solid entry level rifle! As well as a short history of the 25-06. @leverbolt7699
Great vid! Just ordered a .25-06 in the plain Jane Axis, hope it is a winner as well. ordered a trigger spring kit for it also. I've always wanted to tinker with that caliber for longer range hunting.
Now I have a 25-06 on a Ruger 1 , shooting a 90 grain hollow point Winchester with a 6x18x40 Redfield a very outstanding performance wouldn’t trade for anything placement is there when u trigger a very great round
Love the old 25-06, I bought a Browning A bolt in the early 80s and it seamed to shoot everything from 75 grain to 120 grain bullets to the same point of aim! A little excessive for varmints but perfect for deer size game.
Thanks for the comment Ron! I would have to agree, it is a bit much for varmints, although I can't say I haven't thought about using it on a coyote if I happen to see one while I have it on me. Also, I think it might be pretty fun on prairie dogs. HaHa! Anyway, a friend of mine has used the 25-06 exclusively for about 30 years on deer, elk, antelope and black bear. As far as he is concerned, there's no need to have another rifle, it's worked very well for him anyway. Thanks for watching, have a good one!
I bought my own first new deer rifle (Browning A-bolt Medallion, .25-06) in '86. Twenty-five years later realized I'd gotten a first year production of the model. To this day it doesn't have 100 rounds through it. Longest DRT'd deer was 436 yards.
Savage rifles are the only rifle I would buy past 25 years... all of them would clover 🍀 leaf at 100 but I reload which made it even more accurate.. Savage is the only one I will buy.. I have several axis now in different calibers..did some testing today and shot almost same hole with 5 rds
Hey Scott, I completely agree. I have a Win Model 9422M thats almost 40 but other than that just Savage. I can't believe how accurate the Axis's are. They kind of have the feel of an entry level rifle but they sure don't shoot like it. I have one in 270 win I need to shoot as well. I hope it does as well as the 25-06. Thanks for the comments, Have a good one.
@@leverbolt7699 it's VERY easy to lighten the trigger up... takes a whole 3 minutes.. mine always came about 9 or 10 pds but lighten to 3 pds... polish the sear some and it will be a different animal .. will shoot like a 2000 buck rifle
Hey Sinister, thanks for the comment! Hmmm, I'm not a huge fan of the 25-06 but I would have to say the 6.5 Creed is the most overrated cartridge of all time. Atleast in my opinion. Have a good one!
