Watching your videos has given me a better mind set on load development. I use to want to rush through it to hurry up and find a load to settle with. But after i found your channel a few months ago, ive gone back through my old loads and new and enjoyed it quite a bit, and have been much more thorough. It has been fun collecting my data and applying it accordingly.

6.5-6.6 grains of power pistol looks to be your best choice for speed and accuracy. I would not even worry about the rest of the powders.

Yes, PP is a really good performer. However, understand that if you expect to use these reloads for Self Defense carry, the "flash" from this powder can really do a number on your eyesight in low light conditions. Too bad that CFE was not included since many claim the same velocity range and it has flash control agents included.

Thank u. This has been a help. Factory +please has been a choice pp & ccw for my family for years. Surprised by your chronological results in comparison with standard. I use hs6 & Longshot with practice bullets for my range ammo. I am looking forward to #4. I appreciate all your video. By the way thanks for creating an appetite for 6.5 grendel☺

I don’t know how you don’t spill the primers everywhere, but something I do to fix that from happening is keep the primers level, adjust the cardboard cover enough where all the primers you need are visible, then flip the actual primer device upside down. Then you will press the primer pack up against the primer device tray. Keeping the pressure and flipping both over together will allow all primers to be safely put on tray as well as most likely have all the primers in the correct position to load. Great video by the way!

Johnny I can’t thank ya enough man. I wouldn’t be anywhere near as into reloading if it weren’t for your videos, and you’re the reason I have a 18” AR that shoots under 1/2” groups! Id be sitting around happy with 1-1/2” groups if it wasn’t for the info you provide. Plan on hopping on the patreon here soon, have to include it in the R&D portion of my reloading budget

Absolutely amazing series, excellent work! Playing around with quickload, my bet already was on Accurate 7 (or Lovex D037.1) and Silhouette (or maybe True Blue) for loading 9 mm, .38 and .357. I have a question referring to Accurate 7. Quickload keeps saying that it nearly never ever burnes to completion. But i do not see a huge muzzleflash. Would you say it is burning clean? Or put differently, which powder is shooting most cleanly? I would guess Silhouette? The data you were rising with Silhouette is really amazing, i can not wait to try it out. Thanks a lot for your excellent work, i am eager to hear more about powders! :-)

Hs-6 is a lot like be-72 with which I have been working lately. It doesn't quite have the punch of the other two powders but I find it really likes higher pressure so I load them a bit short.

great video, I'm currently doing the same thing, yesterday at the range I narrowed my powders down to 5.2g CFE pistol, 5.3g Power Pistol and 4g bullseye on 124g bullet. I'm shooting a smith & wesson revolver Jerry Mickeluk 929 . I liked your HS6 6.9g results, thanks, I'll have to pick some up. I don't have a crono, I'm making my assesments by bullet grouping.

Quick question for you, since you've been around forever and seen most of my vids. I used a lapel microphone for this video so the audio is quite a bit different and my voice was much clearer. Did you find it weird? When I was editing this vid it was really hard to get used to. It's like the audio was TOO good and felt weirdly over-produced and fake. Just curious if a long-time viewer noticed it. lol It's probably an improvement and just something I need to get used to. Thanks for watching, man!

Johnny's Reloading Bench i spray it on most anything powder contacts to help with static (lee dippers, the container i dip from, weigh pans, powder funnels etc.). Just be aware of some clear plastics like the powder measure hopper can be weakened/warped by it.

Try graphite powder for locks, put some on funnels and other plastic that powder contacts wipe with cloth, Static cling gone.There used to be some dish detergent or clothes softener that would kill static also but forty year old memories fail to give me a brand name.

I nicely chamfered a old 444 marlin cartridge & fill it up & when it get close to desired weight charge , simply slowly rotate the case between your fingers & you have full - max control down to the 1/2 grain & less 😉👍 every time . Relaxing & confidently fast . I divorced the yellow cc cups 50 years ago .love your videos🥂👍

Handguns are something that I haven't seen a significant difference in group size with different powder and bullet combinations unless I'm using an optic but even then it's not much. Meaning they seem to be much more forgiving then rifles where you can get a bullet powder combination that just don't work. I'm assuming it's because velocities aren't as high, none of the bullet have a particularly good shape that's made for better accuracy, and you're not typically shooting very far. So if I'm loading plinking ammo I'm just looking for a nice middle of the road powder charge and a cheap bullet so I can stretch that dollar as far as I can. With a defensive load I pick a bullet and look for a powder that'll give me the best velocity with the littlest charge weight so I'm not spilling powder everywhere because I load pistol on my progressive press.

Don't beat yourself up about the accuracy, Judging of the pistols trigger and sight radius, That is a carry pistol and not a Match pistol. Striker fire triggers are hard to get the crisp let off you need, and ever gun is a little different in one way or another. a Good Book is "The Pistol Shooters Treasury" You can find it on Amazon in Paperback. It's good reading (Old) school, However when you think about it that's a good thing. I'm enjoying the content of this series. Keep up the good job. Dave

Power pistol is kinda funny. You can just keep adding powder and compress the hell out of it. There's some nut out there called "Clark" who claims to have shot 158gr xtps out of a 9 with like 10grs of power pistol for about 1150 fps. I've experimented as well and made some 1300 fps 124gr, and 1200 fps 147gr. I prefer VV 3n38 for the heavier bullets though

@danspowercleanservices6060
@danspowercleanservices6060 4 года назад
Gerry Martinez I have friends with Dillion machines, they work well. My problem is the cost of caliber change over. Also, and this goes for all machines, red, blue, black, green, etc.., the more accessories you add the more difficult it become to do a caliber change over. Just my opinion on that issue and the reason I have a dedicated progressive .223 and .300 blackout machine, and another progressive machine for just .45 acp. All large caliber hunting rifles get loaded on a single station press. My presses are all the Hornady LNL series. As for the Dillion machines, how big is your wallet?

Why wouldn't you choose the powder that gets your 1225fps for the lowest grains weight? It looks like you'd Get 200 more rounds out of a pound of Power Pistol than you would a pound of HS-6. Does Power Pistol cost 20% more than HS-6?

Like my other comment on PART 1, look at the muzzle flash during the shooting for each powder. #7 is almost non existent compared to the others....just a side note.
@fishrrelaxing9361
@fishrrelaxing9361 7 лет назад
jrfarrar13 HS6 seems for me to be the best all around accurate powder with a full factory like charge. Seems to me to be a modern version of PP with just a little more repeatability and little less power. They are both my 1 and 2 powders though. Most of what I load is full power 9mm 124g fmj same as the military which also uses PP. clear to me as to why that is. I do agree it has excessive flash but it's power to accuracy for a full power loading is great. I load HS6 for comp ammo and defensive ammo carry and PP for plinking and stock piling.
@jrfarrar13
@jrfarrar13 7 лет назад
My final load was 9.1 of AA#7 1.125OAL netted me 1286fps average out of a Glock 17 with 4.5" bbl. Accuracy was very good also. One of the reasons I finally decided on this load was the lack of fireball. As you can see in Johnny's video you can see the fireball. Something I did not want if shooting at night.
@fishrrelaxing9361
@fishrrelaxing9361 7 лет назад
That's interesting. The issue I have with #7 is the deviation in velocity. Right or wrong.. to me the more consistent the velocity the greater the potential is for accuracy. I'm not a fan of using 30% more powder either. Using HS6 and PP the grain amounts are mostly identical. How well does that #7 work with bullet seating on a 147? It's damn near a full case w 124's To pick your brain.. are you crimping every round? I assume so are you using a crimp is it a light crimp or full? I like full crimp which is why I'm not a fan of plated bullets even for cheap plinking. Maybe that's the difference? I've never even played around with different amounts of crimp I just do flat out as in my mind it should lend itself to consistency and reliability of feeding across all chamber types. I also seat my bullets a little deep per spec for the same reason. I know a lot of aftermarket barrels (especially for glocks) have really tight chambers and even a 1.12 OAL is too tight sometimes so I shy on the safe side going down to 1.11 that could make up for the difference as well. I don't always go for the powder with the tightest potential grouping either. For accuracy opt for the one with the least amount of flyers. That's what I like about the HS6 and how consistent it is on velocity. Even with a ransom rest you can get flyers so a very key factor to me is consistency of group more so then size. That way I know if I do my part all rounds should be X instead of getting that once in a while odd hit and having to wonder if it was me, the gun or the round. If that makes sense? So when I say it's more accurate for me I'm saying 10/10 rounds are all in 2" group where as with another powder I might have 9/10 in a 1" but have some odd random flyer out of that group at 4". I don't think oh I pulled that one and discount it. I think wow that was odd. I also don't go for the outmost velocity. I've seen lots of ballistics testing and most bullets rip themselves apart over 1200fps. Once you hit 1250 plus many also seem to over expand or expand too early and don't achieve enough penetration. I like to stay in the 1150-1190ish range. Which is also what most manufacturers do. I do a lot of comparing quality factory loads and trying to duplicate the results of them instead of improving upon them. I figure they got millions in research and people way smarter then me so they must know something I don't lol. I reload to make quality factory ammo cheaper. Not to play around and try and out do them with some secret recipe. (Also I don't believe in so called practice ammo as it seems like an stupid term to me lol. Why I can't stand tight-group and similar powders. Last thing I want is to be checking what ammo is in the gun hoping it's a full loaded defensive capable round should I even need it. ) Ok lot of random babbling there lol.. time to go.
