Hi Everyone,
Welcome back! Today I am loading the quilt using the Burrito Method but with Red Snappers. A lot of people have asked me how I do it and this is how. It’s so much faster and there is no blood, that’s the best part. There are Pros and Cons to Red Snappers and I discuss them in the video and also give some hints how to be the most successful when using them.

If you load in Clear View, make sure you watch that version. The backing and top go on different bars in that version, so it’s a little different.

Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your tutorials, My Mom and Dad bought me my longarm for my birthday. I am trying so hard to learn everything that I can online. At this time I am housebound and going out to classes is impossible. Enjoy the fact that you give the pro and con to all the things that you demonstrate. I have seen many tools for helping load quilts to a long arm machine your method makes things so much easier and more accurate.

I use red snappers and I bend them back all the time. It makes them so much easier to clamp. I am definitely going to try the burrito method for loading my next quilt because it solves one problem I've been having with my current method (I use the back table to squish them down), which is that the machine is always going to be in the way and drags the leader up into a weird curve. Making the burrito around the back two bars will absolutely make that a non-issue. I'm so glad you posted this. I did watch your previous burrito video, but since I don't use pins, I didn't really see how I could make it work for me. It seems so obvious now! Also, I use some no-tie shoe laces I got on amazon to keep the ends of my leaders from flopping around. They are basically a loop of elastic cord with the ends passing through a little ratchet thing. You loop the cord around the bar near the end of the leader and then you can tighten or loosen or remove them as you need to. I am going to try the magnets when I can get my hands on some.

Thanks for the great demo on Red Snappers! I may have to invest in a set. Request time - Could you do a video on how you square up your edges. I’m pretty OCD about squaring things to eliminate wonkiness and am still searching for the “prefect” way to to square my backing. Working with big pieces of fabric kind of makes me crazy.

Beatrice, definitely try the method of bending that snapper to open that groove. It might make the world of difference for you.

I had trouble in the beginning with the snapper part pointing down. I don't like to even have my pins pointed down. The way I load have everything up, and saved me a few times because of it. I did recently get zippers and I used them my first time on the new Dream Big Holiday panel. I LOVE how flat they lay, no more snapper bulk!

Thank you. turns out I've been doing the burrito method for a few years now. LOL. But, I did get some awesome hints that will help me manage the red snappers better. I do love them, but hand strength is an issue. Also , I had never considered having them overhang the edges. I'll try that on the next quilt.

@@adamsewfun. yes. Bending them back while putting them on is an awesome idea. Don't know why I didn't think about that. And., having them overlap the edges of the fabric actually seemed to help too. I had always been careful to not let that happen. What was I thinking? Thanks again.

Had my Leader Grips for five years before they started showing any wear. And I think they started "rotting" simply because I stored them in the SE window...lots of sun. Well, as much sun as Michigan gets. I tried pinning the first two years professionally long arming and after sticking a pin under my cuticle for the third time one day while loading, that was it.

I am so pleased to find your channel! I have a Simply 16 with studio 2 frame. I do not have pro stitcher, I prefer doing pantographs with the rear handle bars. It’s calming therapy for this gramma! Have you ever done an educational video on pantographs? I’d be interested in watching. Your reference to food cracks me up. I’ll never look at a bean & cheese burrito the same way again 🤣

I do not have a pantograph video and not sure if I will make one. I have always had Pro-Stitcher and never done a pantograph on a full quilt. I know how it's done but I am not great at it and my machine is almost up against a wall, so I wouldn't be able to film it in my studio. It's something I will think about and try to film in a shop. I have a few shops where they are a wiz with Pantographs, so maybe I can make one there.

Thank you so much for this video on Red Snappers! I have a beautiful set but have resisted using them because of how difficult they were for me to use. I was also taught to use the table in the back to apply pressure to get the snapper on; is this going to cause any problems?? I will definitely try this and I am excited to see both Dream Big videos!! Awesomeness!!

One suggestion I have heard is to cut the snapper part (the piece that snaps over the rod in the leader) into 4" sections to make the snapping a bit easier and more accurate. But I too find the process of pinning onto leaders quite meditative!

Hi Adam, Just wondering, now that you’ve had time to experiment with all the different ways to load a quilt, which do you like the best? : Red Snapoers; zippers, or Sew Tite magnets? I know buying enough magnets is very expensive but I value your experience and opinion. I have a bad back and muscle pain and leaning over the frame to pin is hard on me. I figure zips can be basted on with the reg machine and that wd be quick. The snappers might work, if I bent them like you showed but I hv an Amara and worry about losing throat space and needing extra fabric bc I’m verrry frugal. 😂 I hate wasting fabric bc it’s so expensive. And I watched someone loading the whole quilt with sew tires and that looked great! They are just so expensive. Please, tell me what you think! Thx! ⭐️

I use the zippers most of the time but I will use some of the other methods if it is better for the current project I'm working on. It just depends on what I am doing at the time but I do use them all, zippers, pins, snappers, magnets.

I have a Gallery2 frame but it should be the same with any HQ frame, as long as it's in classic view and not clear view.

The front bars are different when loading clear view because you can't create the "table." I still toss everything over the back but have to maneuver the front bars a little differently.

OK so today was my first day putting the snappers on and a few my hands hurt my arms hurt my head hurts my back hurts everything hurts so I was wondering can you cut those long snappers into the little 2 to 3 inch size and to snap all those on with that, give you the same results?

Help I am new to this. Just got an Avante. I am following your video but not getting even tension. I using a batik for back and top to just practice. My table is not even. I cut a 72inch piece to load

If your table is not even, that's probably the problem but without being able to see it, I can't tell you what is exactly wrong. Make sure your fabric is cut straight, so you have a nice edge to start with. If it's not straight to start with, it won't be straight in the end.
