Nice! Now all you need is an RV trailer to pull with it. I wish I had it! I love old car and truck shows I'd pull an RV to a couple of shows during the summer and park it for the weekend and then show the truck in the show. Nicely done!
I have a 1600 loadstar with a 345 gas v8 1966 with only 41,000 miles on it hardly driven looking to increase the HP as much as I can get repaint inside and out and better a one owner truck my dad bought it new in 66 didn't have the heart to sell it when he died , so I guess I am restoring it , but only better then stock.
Try to leave the 345 alone. At least I would if it were mine. You see, the 345 was like a gasoline engine that was created to do everything a diesel would do for that time period. 1). Run at high load all day and night long repeatedly it's entire life. 2). Extremely durable. 3). Outstanding reliability. 4). Do so for hundreds of thousands of miles. That's asking a lot from any gasoline engine. International hit the ball out of the park. It did everything a medium duty diesel would do, but did it quietly! 3,500 rpm was a lot from these. They had excellent off idle torque just as a diesel does. Outstanding engine! You wanna go fast? (Why not !) Do this: source a complete running Big Block anything.. I.E. 455 Olds with TH400 trans, or 440 Mopar with 727 trans, 500 Caddy etc. Swap it in, go shred some tires! Just.... Not with a 345 IH. 😉
I have not been on the recycling yard hunt in a while. But I think there was one between Rome and Cavesprings,GA the other day But I was the steering wheel holder and couldnt get the address
Love this thing looks very nice. I am picking up a 49 international kB to build a rat rod. I will either be doing a dt360 or a 5.9 Cummins. I’m so excited
I remember helping my dad with his old 1962 Loadstar with a 22000 gallon tank on the back. We used to call her Number 1 in a fleet of newer trucks. Due to insurance reasons, the vehicle became obsolete. However, on the property, we would us the truck to transport fuel oil and diesel (same thing, but got to keep it sep). My pops used to say "Fire in the HOLE!!!!!". I'd spray the carb with, essentially lighter fluid, and ole Number 1 would come to life.
Such a cool memory to have with your dad! Its to bad that some states such as California are making it so we can’t use these cool old trucks anymore on the road.
@@gingerauto I’m currently putting a gravel box on it and going to use it to tow my smaller equipment around. Should be a bit of a head turner doing that. But after that, I think there will be upgrades each winter lol
I have a 68 1700 4x4 in Central PA. Just got some long awaited brake parts from a machinist buddy. Gotta install the drum shoe adjusters, order a $300 brake booster, and find some appropriate mirrors and its finally ready. It came rigged up as a single rear with a 90s Chevy 8 foot bed. I restored the dual wheels and built a 8 foot flatbed using 4x6 as the sideways wooden frame AND the deck boards!! I can't wait to get my lights on and see if it can go over 45mph with proper tires hahaha. Have fun and be safe gentlemen, love your truck!!
Sorry to contradict you Michael but the International Loadstar was just about the only US truck which has ever sold in any numbers in the UK. They came over as CKD kits and where assembled locally both rigid (straight) and tractors from about 66 to 72. They were light and cheap so got a following, the largest user to my knowledge was Jack Bradley Transport of Accrington Lancashire who had about 60 of them (one of which is on the preserved circuit and does a few shows). They would have sold more if they'd had a decent engine but most if not all had a Perkins 6.354 112bhp, pretty useless in a two axle rigid, but in a tractor just ridiculous, but they were very light, very cheap to buy and parts were cheap, and that was enough for some to buy them.
The first truck I ever drove was one of these. It had the gas v8 with twin transmissions. Also a tandem axle with a 22’ potatoe box on it. Fully loaded it could only do 30 miles an hour lol. Beautiful rig. What brand of gauges did you guys use in this build? Can anyone tell me please?
Sweet rig! I have a 2000 International LPX 4700 T444E Low Profile. I’d like to do a cab swap with a 1965 Loadstar but unsure if it will work, I haven’t done all my due diligence. My trans is the AT542 and it’s about clapped out. Contemplating an MT 643 swap, (3rd & 4th lockup) but a few of the conversion items are extremely hard to find. Seems like all the schoolie conversion guys have snatched them up. Going with a manual trans might be easier, but again, I’m not sure what work well. My rear diff is 3.43 I think. Anyway, my grandfather had a truck rental business back in day ‘60’s through the ‘80’s in Fresno and he had probably close to 50 trucks all like this, that’s what’s driving my motivation to locate and purchase one and recreate his old truck rental color scheme.
We stuck with a Manuel transmission just because we wanted it to have the old school big rig feel. One thing I have learned is you can make anything work with enough cutting and welding haha
@@gingerauto about half put the rim i was going to use 19.5 on back Measure to it looked right there one that I got the idear from on a site has a grain bin on the back looks like you could have 22
I have a 68 with 304...no bed. Trying to get a ball park guess on curb weight as I'm tackling the brakes and have no ability to run her over the scales. Any guesses? Hoping to have something like yours before the good Lord tells me "You're done son!" 😅
I'm building the same on a 68 1700 4x4, do you have pics somewhere? I have a flatbed now, but I'm building something similar to "Full Send Alaskan Overland" aka Truck House Life and I'd like to know your regrets or other things you love or would change about your camper. I can leave my email address if you'd send me them to check out? It's my name but with ".t." in between @gmail.
This thing is so cool. Love you channel man, I'm glad to see someone who is interested in both Subarus and trucks like myself haha. What are your plans for the bed? It looks super cool without one honestly but I'm curious what you've got planned.
Nice truck man. Was wondering how you have it registered and insured to be the most cost effective? Cheapest lol. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.. Dan
Are there a lot of reproduction parts out there for these, such as window fuzzies, weatherstrips, or door seals... Just subscribed, I breathe this stuff...
The little bit of research I have done you can still find a lot of stuff. But since we aren’t to the point of restoring the outside yet. I haven’t looked into it a whole lot yet.
Okay I really like this truck athlete with me I have put some quarter fenders on it back with some short mud flaps the Chrome ones what set this thing off are you planning on painting the truck or not just out of curiosity love what you did with the fenders with the blinkers cuz I hate those stupid overrated I am so much Factory blinkers but you using there low Pros just sex the truck off Fender blinkers on the front phenomenal idea love it
Thanks man. I am really happy with how the blinkers look. Yes we are planning on painting the truck eventually. But we get everything done. And then we will completely take it apart and paint. Still need to do the rear fenders and deck between the frame rails.
Hey, awesome truck. Do you have any idea what the curb weight is of your truck? Im interested in doing something similar but cant legally park it overnight in front of my house if its over 9900lbs. Seems like the IH 1600s and 1700s can be around 9k lbs or higher but finding an answer seems a little tricky.
I have a tractor like yours but its from gasoline it works and everything but I would want you to fix it like yours like around how much would it be and how can I comunicate with you ? Thank you
@@gingerauto surprised they let it be registered and didn't ban you for it being a "commercial" vehicle. Looks like you're in Oakdale so not too far from me
@@gingerauto I live outside motown, farm almonds. I'm currently putting a new 390 in my Fairlane also have a 65 F500 I'm working on next. I want to put on 22.5s and bags, that's how i found the channel getting some ideas. Loadstar is slick, nice job.
Idk if you guys have got your gear ratio figured out yet but I use this calculator to help. spicerparts.com/calculators/transmission-ratio-rpm-calculator
This is the same calculator we have been using haha. We just never knew our rpm and speed till now. So now we can figure out which diff to get. Thanks tho!
