Great video guys. I still have so much difficulty identifying the cow cod. What were the distinguishing markers on the one you caught? was it the spikey top fin?
Awesome catching. Is there decent size at the 9 mile bank? Is there cow cod at the 9? Is it easy to tell the difference between the red and cow? Thanks!
Yeah. We get some good fish on the 9. Usually 400' and deeper for bigger stuff. Google pics of a cowcod and save them on your phone. They are more orange, generally huge and have the huge dorsal spines.
Ali, can you recommend any private charters that will take a group out on a day trip to fish these deep areas for rockfish? I’m trying to find a rockfish/bottom fish focused charter. I know they have the open party boats but they typically don’t go out that far
That's a good question. I think you can use two but check the regs in your state. We like the one set because you don't snag as much. Any good fish will just inhale the jig.
WE fish up and down the coast. Finding those deep spots is a challenge and really fun. We fish out to 1200' . Electric reels and gulp are great for prospecting.
Your view of cod jigging i came to same conclusion a few months ago. Just like a food palette things change. I grew up killing local giant tuna yellow tails at Cat, but man i turned plan B into plan A back up. Something about catching double 5lb reds.
Ok here’s what I need to know. Summary. 8 people each can eat 4 tacos. How many rocks should we keep. Give or take 1. Wouldn’t be bad idea to list how much catch we need with each recipe. Eg. tacos. Grouper sandwiches. For 2-4-6-8-12 people. And again your vid cost me cash. Hahahah. You said fish taco enough to make me grab my daughter and head to local fish restaurant hahahah. Thanks again. Send cash.
