This part 2 video shows a second trip to the same section of the Susquehanna River to determine and confirm the locations of concentrations of river smallmouth as we head into winter. Tricks like finding deep water areas with low flow satellite imagery on Google Maps are a good place to start, but ultimately, you need to just get out there and sample lots of water, looking for concentrations of fish. In November, with the water temperatures ranging from 40 to the low 50's, the fish are more willing to eat compared to when the water gets cold in December, January and February. Ends of islands, creek mouths, below major ledge systems where there's deep water, high banks and places that feature flood conditions high water refuge all make for good winter habitat.
