A previous visit: • Loch Mullardoch 24:07:17 This walk along Loch Mullardoch is for the four Munros An Socach, An Riabhachan, Sgurr na Lapaich and Carn nan Gobhar. A super day with mixed weather and intermittent views.
What a mixed bag of weather you had. Ye have tae love Scotland though. I think I might be on these ones this weekend, so hopefully the water level on the burns stays ok. Shame the boat is still off. I did your route on the Affric 5 the other week and really enjoyed it. Nice one 👍 Still the most authentic outdoor and Munro channel. Great work chaps. All the best. David
Hi David, Really glad you enjoy viewing our outings. It's probably a good time to get along the loch as the growth is low and it's reasonably dry. Hope you have a great day.... enjoy. Cheers
Did this walk yesterday in the clockwise direction. Was fine, but I never want to do that loch-side walk-back again. The bracken-obscured path was a recipe for a twisted ankle and when the wind dropped the midges were ferocious. Even the cows on the path seemed almost aggressively obstinate. PS 10 hrs 75 was pretty fast. Do you just eat snack bars on the move?
Hello, Yes, there is certainly an advantage of walking along the loch early in the season when the growth hasn't started. We generally have a cup tea and sandwich as we are getting ready and make a point of stopping for 10-15mins every 2hrs just to keep the intake up. On the bigger days we'll also share a bag of fruit pastels on the move towards the end of the day just for a sugar lift. Everyone is different but for us, keeping the snacks and fluids steady through the day helps with bigger days. Cheers
Hi Charlie, wow what a outing, you will sleep well after that!, Do you still use a map and compass for these longer outings? With my memory issues I try and follow non complex routes in the hills, another cracking video Charlie+ mike. Kind regards Mark.
Hello, Really glad you enjoyed tagging along on out recent outing. It was stunning and a day that had the full array of weather conditions. Many thanks for taking the time to view. Cheers
Interesting to see parts of the loch side walk. I’ve sort of decided to do the round of 12 with a night or so of wild camping thrown into the mix to avoid the 10km boggy, midge infested trudge. The few clips we saw it didn’t appear that bad Loch side. Loving all these vids you keep posting, I don’t know how you manage it but you seem to cover all the Munro’s I still need to “complete”. Please keep them coming, they’re great👍
Hello, That's handy were running similar lists 🤣. The path isn't bad at the moment but may change as the season goes on. You're certainly planning a big route I hope you get the weather to support your effort. Cheers
Brilliant hike again Charlie, you got everything thrown at you on that one. Brilliantly captured and I thoroughly enjoyed that. Any news of the boat coming back into action this year.? ATB Frank.👍🏔🏴
Hi Frank, It was supposed to be back this year but unfortunately it's looking like next year at best. I hadn't expected my 4th trip along the loch but I actually didn't find it that bad, it was very much like the first visit many years ago. ATB Charlie
@@charliemccartney7055 cheers Charlie, it’ll be next year before I complete them, so I’ll maybe hold back on these 4 and see if the boat resumes next year.
Looks a great walk Charlie, I have heard the walk next to the loch is a nightmare but doesn’t look too bad.. interesting to see snow showers aswell 😂 typical Scotland.. I was planning tying these into the other 3 at the far end of Glen Affric (with an overnighter) and exiting via Kintail, always looks easy on the map though 😅 Cheers, James
Hi James, The path wasn't bad at all although that may change as the season goes on when the growth changes the landscape. That was my 4th and last walk along this loch 🤣 The three Affric hills are awkward with the outlier to the north. It'll be a big camping experience if you decide to go for it as you still have the distance to cover with the extra weight. We're likely to repeat our in/out day walk into the Youth Hostel from Glen Shiel for these three. A big day but it saves the need for a double walk-in. I've also done the northern Munro as a single from Iron Lodge which allows the use of a bike. It's all good fun.... Cheers
Brilliant Charlie! I recently went to loch mullardoch and with out the boat only walked the two nearest the dam and that was still a big walk! Your trip was epic! 31km and everything the weather could throw at you! Quite spectacular! Yous two are machines 😊. Paul
Hi Paul, The boat not running has upset everyones plans. Back in the day there was no option so that was my 4th trip along the loch and to be honest this trip wasn't that different from my first. Its a bigger day than normal but really enjoyable in this terrific area. Cheers
Hi SSteven, Its a best time of year for getting around this route. Have a great day and I hope you have cracking weather to fully enjoy the experience. Cheers
Amazing 31km 10.75hrs i'm not entirely sure your not a couple of 20 year olds disguised as older men? Walking the munros of Scotland obviously keeps you fit. I'm up this weekend for some more munros cannae wait. Great video , keep it up. ATB Andy
Hi Andy, Many thanks. It would be great to have 20 year old knees again 🤣 Enjoyed our recent uploads from your last trip with Frank and the boys and I hope this weekend goes well with clear skies. Cheers
Lovely film, as always. My OS Landranger doesn't show An Socach named, but merely a trig point at 1069. Thanks for showing your route on the map: it makes it much easier to trace your path. I hope Angus recovers sufficiently to run the boat service on the loch in 2024.
Hi Chris, We had expected the boat to be running this year but a repeat of the loch side walk isn't that bad early in the season. It's a cracking group of tops and glad the weather settled a bit as the day went on. Cheers
Good stuff guys, looks like a great walk. Some big drops between those tops. That's a shame the ferry isn't in service though, was hoping it would be on this year.
Hi Andy, Yes, we had hoped for a boat trip and didn't expect my 4th trip along the long. To be honest, the track has changed in years but is obviously better in early dry conditions. Cheers
We did 3 hills anti clockwise in June 2005 dropped to the loch end. Thoughts were lets get on the path back to the dam. The track was a trench, wet all the way, hills were wet, water flowing across the slopes. The isle in the loch seemed to take an age to pass. (Possibly it floats). It was a hard slog. What great days are made of, when warm and dry in a bar. Keep up the brilliant vids.
Hi Rich, Glad our trip brought back memories of your trip. Its a terrific area and it can seem the loch gets longer as your walking east rather than west. 🤣 Cheers
Thanks again, another great video, I always look forward to seeing the next one. Big day for distance and ascent, I think you looked so fresh when talking to the camera after the walk, I think you may have recorded that before you started! A right mixture of weather in one day, and difficult to believe that it’s May! Thanks again, really enjoyed and appreciated. 👍
Hi Les, Really glad you enjoyed our recent trip... it was a cracker. I'll need to try that one about recording the finish before the start, just need to makeup the stats and see if anyone notices 🤣🤣🤣 Cheers
Lovely lovely video gents. You had all four seasons in one day. Snow showers and biting wind in mid May, who’d have thought it. A big day for, not only in distance but also with ascent. The Mullardoch 4 are lovely remote hills and you had great views. Nice looking across to the Glen Affric hills. Thank you again for sharing it. Really enjoyed it.
Hi Jonathan, We had a terrific day and the mixed weather added to the adventure. It's such a remote area that's changes all aspects of your days walk.... cracking. Cheers
Quite a big day - 19 miles and almost 7000 feet. A pal and I did it the other way round, and it damn nearly killed me. I am in awe of your fitness. Great video of somewhere I shall never get back too. Many thanks.
Hi Dick, Really glad you enjoyed our trip and had a memory blast of your own experience. Its a great remote area that I suspect I won't be back too but the all six visit have been memorable. Cheers
Thanks for sharing. Braw scenery with the big carries. took me 2 days to do your round - and I had good weather, always amazed at your speed on the hill. keep up the good work, thanks again ATB
I was camped at Loch Mullardoch in 1992. We did four Munros, probably the same as the ones in the video. We were going to do a fifth, but were low on drinking water. Its great to see the loch from a height. Great scenery. Great video.👍
Hello, Many thanks for taking the time to view yesterdays outing. The loch is such a terrific area to visit and has the typical Scottish landscape to offer. Cheers.
Hi Charlie, hi Mike, blimey that was a very changeable day weather wise, still at least the showers didn’t linger too long each time and you got to see as well as us some cracking views. Thank you for sharing your day with us as always, I’m out on Thursday for a relatively big walk. Cheers Dave.
Hi Dave, We had a cracker and enjoyed the variety in the weather conditionsHope Thursday is good to you as were not planning to be out until Fri this week. Cheers.
Hi ant-photo, Many thanks for taking the time to view yesterdays outing. A tough day but very enjoyable with the weather just adding a bit of spice. Cheers
When Carl the Dane lived at Benula Lodge that house n the trees was called the Seldom Inn! Great to see those slopes, summits and corries again. Thanks,Charlie.
Hi Geoffrey, Glad you enjoyed our Mullardoch trip. The area around the dam has changed through the years but the walk along the north bank remains the same 🤣Cheers
Hi Murdo, Yes, a great day getting around these remoter Munros. Can't imagine we'll be in there again so it was terrific getting another look around. Cheers
Hi munrotop, Really glad you enjoyed our outing from earlier this week. It was a super day with a right mix of weather conditions thrown in, just great. Cheers
@@charliemccartney7055 I see Walkhighlands route hugs the loch, did you take this route ? It looks on your video that your higher up . is there another track
@@itsablack1 The track runs about 100m up from the water and is quite obvious once you get into it. It's sketchy to start with at the pump house but cross the bridge and keep that sort of height all the way. Cheers
Fantastic viewing Charlie on a Tuesday afternoon. I love how you post so quickly, it's practically live :) great to see what Scotland is like, if I were to jump on a plane 🇮🇪 :) ..Great video as usual with commentary so so clear and explanatory...
Hello, Really glad you enjoyed viewing yesterdays trip. I always prefer to get the movies uploaded asap after the walk just to allow others to understand current conditions 👍 I wish I had RU-vid when I started 🤣 Cheers
Hi Kev, Yes, a day of all type of weather but enjoyable nonetheless. We're getting close to complete our 5th&6th round and there certainly won't be a 6th/7th 🤣Cheers
