The embryo has implanted in the uterus. Now it starts to grow and differentiate, and we see the development of the two-layered germ disc that will develop into a tiny body, and the proliferation of tissues that will form the placenta. By the end of the second week, the embryo is attached to the early placenta by a connecting stalk - the precursor of the umbilical cord.

Fascinating thank you. Every time you say this was us I get a thrilling jolt of amazement and it is no longer 'just theory'. Your drawings are so helpful too especially watching the drawing and explanation happening together. Plus the results are beautiful.

We had an 8 week scan today after successful IVF treatment, we told our wonderful consultant about your beautiful little videos and later sent her the links. Thank you for making these and we can't wait to see the next stage.

Monpjc An important question in embryology - and here are two amazing books that tackle it: Wolpert’s epic Triumph of the Embryo and the wonderful new Dance of Life by MagdaZernicke-Hoetz and Roger Highfield: books.google.com/books/about/The_Triumph_of_the_Embryo.html?id=VfdFOKz3O5UC www.penguin.co.uk/books/1116560/the-dance-of-life/9780753552926

With the developing embryo burying itself into the endometrium( hope I've got and spelt this correct as im very new to all of this) it reminds me of the Surinam toad pipa pipa who's eggs are absorbed into its back( seen this on a David Attenborough program ) This all just blows my mind.🤔👍

One of the things that has surprised me is how much far the eggs gets just on the resources packaged up in egg. - 2 Weeks of self sustained growth until it can start receiving nutrients from the mother's blood supply.

Amazing, not only makes me wish I had a brain that was secure and held information in but also makes me want to get up off my arse and do some artwork again, sadly neglected over the years through no fault but my own.
