Lockheed Martin Debuts Civil LM-100J Hercules Transport at Paris Air Show 2017 - AINtv

Lockheed Martin’s C-130J Hercules-derived LM-100J commercial freighter made its debut at the Paris Air Show this year, with the first flight taking place less than a month earlier. Lockheed has previously offered a civil version of the older, shorter-fuselage Hercules called the L-100, but production ended in 1992. Many of those aircraft are still in operation today. The multi-role LM-100J is expected to complete a variety of delivery missions involving bulky and oversize cargo. It can also operate to and from short or unprepared airfields, without ground support equipment.

Marietta, Georgia is where the C-130 and tge lm-100j are built. I live about an hour south from Marietta.

C130 Serie is beautiful and useful aircraft. It can landing and takeoff everywhere where a runway long enough.

its about time. Try buying a c130 used is impossible. Saw yellow knife had a few P3s retired and they were clumsy to load.

I've watched several videos of this aircraft and of all the capabilities mentioned, I've yet to see/hear how this aircraft is *REFUELED* on the ground!

How much is the take off ground run distance? Which is its maximum lift coefficient? And how many degrees are flaps deflected down during take off in average for producing CL 1.95?

I hope they build a water bomber version for firefighting. Here in British Columbia we had the worst forest fire season in almost 60 years.

weird that parts of it don't have to be fireproof on the military version when that one is much more likely to catch fire!

not really. with the fireproof panels you cant get to mechanicals that may catch fire very easily. In the military version, the load master can extinguish any minor fires quickly. on the civilian version its behind panels and can cause massive damage.

Fermain Jackson not typically in my experience. it's normally the pilots job away from the home office. military it's a separate person on flight.

A lot of nice to haves go out the window on military equipment as deemed unnecessary, impractical or ironically dangerous for military requirements.

Make a wide body version, sheese. Having to disassemble a Lav3 everytime we want to carry it is inefficient and a pain.

09shadowjet after riding in one of those from Nellis AFB to the east coast I'd say no lol. not a fun ride. Loud, cold, and vibrations. not to mention it's service ceiling is limited.

09shadowjet there aren't a lot of windows on that aircraft at all. Two hours is one thing, but thirteen hours in an aircraft with nylon material seats similar to an army cot, that has nylon webbing seat back; tells me that passenger comfort was never a consideration. The toilet, or lavatory, only has a curtain around it. Passenger privacy was never a factor either.

Haha no it wouldn't. C130s are good for a lot of things but civilian airliner is not one of them.

I don't think it have a big potential because the market is already filled with other turboprops. I think the market is bigger in Africa compared to other places I estimate around 70-100 aircrafts sold in its lifetime

Is he joking...? Really fun aircraft to fly..? I don't think I would include the line about same kind of performance & reliability as the mil C-130..... LOL... It must be a lot better... Owning a C-130 is like owning a Harley Davidson -- You had better know how to fix & maintain it...

Ch1n4Sailor We ran '62, '63, '64, E models and '92/'93 model H3s at Little Rock. They treated us mechanics pretty good. An occasional engine or propeller change was the most major headache we had, whether we were at home or in the desert.

Seriously, then helicopters must be a joke to you. The slower you can go the shorter take off and landing. A Airbus 380 needs 10,000 feet to take off but it goes 500+ knots. Not much good if you field is 2000 feet and dirt.

Law19157 a turbofan and turboprop are very similar actually. Both have a gas generator that is turned back into mechanical torque to either spin a large fan or a gear reduced propellor.
