We leave Lake Champlain for the first time in seven years through the Champlain Canal. Our first ever lock was a little bumpy but by the time we made it to the Hudson River, we were feeling much more comfortable!
Hope you enjoy this week's episode!

Locke 12 on the Champlain canal is one of the toughest. Water is less turbulent towards the rear of the lock. Favorite stop on the Hudson would be Kingston. Great little town with city docks and Museum. Great restaurants as well. Have fun

Stumbled onto your great videos with the Tartan 37. We just bought one on Lake Champlain and are heading south through the canal system to NYC and on to FLorida in September. We were wondering where you demasted and remasted on your journey? Congrats on the purchase of your VAN but we will miss your Tartan sailing videos.🙏⛵️ Gordon & Lyette 🇨🇦

First, congratulations on your Tartan! We love ours so much and we can’t wait to be back on the water! We unstepped at Chipman Point Marina just south of Ticonderoga. When we did the Champlain canal, we had an Alberg 30 with a deck stepped mast that we had stepped and unstepped ourselves with a tabernacle system dozens of times so we decided to use the DIY crane at Castleton Boat Club. I would NOT recommend this, and especially not with a keel stepped mast 😊 There are a couple of options in Catskill to have it done with a crane in much more protected waters 😊

Wow, thanks for the Champlain canal footage ! My Newport 27S-2 is originally from Lake Champlain....the original owners thought they'd go south to the Chesapeake and Annapolis to see their son way back in ~2003....told me the canal is how they came...I had never heard of it before.

It’s a very cool waterway! It’s the Erie canals lesser known brother! But a great way to get to and from the lake!

Sorry to bother.... Vanessa's friend here again.... bought our boat YAY! Just for Lake Champlain and practice through the locks for this summer.... Looking at GPS and since you know the area do you have a recommendation? You know we are completely in the dark here and someone, somewhere mentioned a Helix 5 but looking for other feedback or how do we choose?

Hi there! Sorry for the delayed response we’ve been out of cell range for the last week. CONGRATS on your boat!!! On Lake Champlain and the rest of the US east coast we’ve been really happy with Navionics on our iPad. We use a vesper for our gps antenna because the iPad gps is notoriously unreliable.

@@AbroadReachTravel Thanks so much - we were still attempting to research this out, so this is very helpful. Smooth sailing to you both!
