How hard would it be to adjust the molds to have three nubs on the bottom rails? ( two on one rail) They fact that the ash drawer has the handles that the claws fit, will have people trying to move a hot grill by them.......tilt-slide-burn-drop...lol. Cast extra grill grates, people will be buying them as an upgrade for their old grills.😉 The sliding ash drawer is already going to take up real estate in use,...the fact you will also have to find a place to set a hot grate with food on it to adjust and move coals, seems quite ridiculous........where did that hotdog go?...lol Who's the new guy down there?....lol
Thank you @Lodge Cast Iron. I really appreciate this opportunity. It doesn’t need three surface contact points. The rails of the ash drawer are fine. The main thing is to keep folks from over tightening the two screws and nuts. It causes flex and it will rock. In the future four fasteners in each corner would prevent it. In the meantime, caution customers not to over-tighten the bolts. I will be using this grill often, the kickoff and old faithful Sportsman’s will not be neglected either. Please develop a caring / storage case for this grill.
Great video and great detail! I look forward to you video series on cooking on the LSG Pro. Thanks for the shout out by the way, us little guys gotta stick together.
Thanks Matt for taking the time to watch, and the conversations. I hope you were able to get yours to sit more level. I’m about to cook shrimp on mine this evening.
Now that's too cool, Big Lew!! You and Matt did a great job reviewing these new grills, and I can see some things I like and dislike about it already! Great review, my friend, and the grub looked good, too, lol!
Thanks for your honest review Lew. I went and pulled my SMG out of storage(still in the box). I need to get it set up. I won't be running out to get the new one anytime soon. I have 4 different type of grills that hardly get used, plus my fire pit grill! Keep on cookin'!👍😎🔥🍻🥩🧀
Thanks BL for a thorough review of the new Lodge Sportsman’s Pro Cast Iron Grill. I agree with you that I prefer the older model also it would be nice to have the option still purchase the previous model. Thanks again.👍
I was honored to be considered chosen for a chance to review it. I’m not exactly a big boy channel like TeachaMan2Fish or Backwoods Gourmet. Thanks for watching Billy.
I so happened to cross by your video and am also a first time viewer on your channel as well!... Just finished reading your "About Me" section on your channel and wanted to say it made me very happy to hear your mission statement on putting a smile on your family and hopefully others who get to see your videos. Although of course its nearly impossible to know everythibg about you, I felt i could somehow tell from your warm and caring demeanour that you have a ot of love for everybody around you! Keep up the great work and keep doing everything that makes you happy....because with that great positive attitude of yours, I know it could help someone else strive for their passions as well....and at the very least, put smile on their face! 😀 All in all, CHEERS TO MANY MORE SUCCESSES IN YOUR ENDEAVORS 🍻 from the Bay Area, California!
Wow, Great and Informative Review. Also thanks for the tip on fixing the rocken. Good Grub too. I think I'll wait for the newness to pass before I try and get one. I have one of the old styles and enjoy it just fine for now. Best of all it was a gift some 7 years ago. Cleaned it up and though I have to reseason it a lot to keep down on the rust. I love having it for doing lump wood coals in.
Great Video Big Lew, going to be really upset 😢 if mine doesn’t arrive 🛬🚚 Great review, great tip about tightening the bolts. Loved seeing part of your collection of Cast Iron! Still Waiting- Stay Safe 👍🇬🇧
Great review as always Big Lew! The chicken wings and the skirt steak looks great and seems like he did a good job. Also I will note not to over tighten the bolts, great advice. Looking forward to more videos
Great Review on the new Lodge Grill. Thank you for showing different cast iron skillets, pans, etc. But I do have a very sad story to tell. I had a original Lodge Sportsman grill and thought it was great grill for my wife and I , We used all the time. A relative borrowed it and I started asking to bring it back. They threw it away,I said what!!. Said it was rusty, I said it's cast iron never wear out in my lifetime. You want see a grown man cry, they threw away. It still rubs me the wrong way to this day. I going get this new Lodge grille very soon.
$180 is 80% higher than the classic. That is pretty steep. I know there are supply chain challenges and Covid, but 80% feels like gouging. Lodge is Lodge, they are good, but at this price competition might get them. Older than Moby Dick, hahaha, good one. Many Millenials don't even know Moby-Dick.
“Since Moby Dick was a minnow” is the quote. I use it often. Well the Kickoff is now selling for $120 on the Lodge site but $79 at Amazon and some retailers. Give it a few months I’m sure it will be cheaper in places before too long.
That slid back and forth ash pit will.be problematic after many uses getting jammed. It's convenient to be able to pick up the lower coal grill. At let the fish fryer fits.
Not sure if anyone mentioned but could drill a hole through the base and the ash drawer and put a pto pin or a bolt and nut to keep it from sliding when carrying
I wish they kept the original design - or at least still sell it. I am trying to replace my old one . It was left behind at a vacation rental and it's been years since I've seen it. If anyone knows where I can buy a brand new original sportsman grill (for a reasonable price) then let me know.
Didn't over tighten the bolts on mine, and it's sturdy and sits dead flat. I'm really enjoying it, but I didn't have the old one to compare it to. I do like that I can just slide out the ash pan and dump it. Only had it a couple of weeks but has done great for everything from veggies, to chicken thighs, country style ribs, and pork chops!
I was going to order this on Amazon, but after watching this video, I am no longer interested. That chicken looks burned. I like my chicken, not char burned. Not healthy. Look it up. I live in Texas; plenty plenty places where I can buy a decent hibachi made here in Texas with plenty clearance between my chicken and my mesquite wood.
That was the first use. I did over cook that chicken a bit. Keep in mind that I was trying to make a video at the same time. I have since used this grill many times and cooked chicken and steaks perfectly. There are other videos on you tube using this grill. I also had sauce on the wings. The point is that just because I am a bad cook and a bad videographer, doesn’t make this a bad grill.
