Welcome to part 33 in my series of loft conversion videos. Throughout this series of videos you can watch me tackle my own DIY loft conversion from start to finish. In this video I install the gutters, add some fascia trim and grind the edge off my hip tiles.

Just about to start one job on Saturday morning - replacing lintel on fireplace. Now the perfect distraction, drinking coffee watching this instead and being inspired to do another job.

Pouse i love the way you do these videos there is a proper down to earth diy feel to them. I have watched you since the early vids and they havent got that commercial feel to them like the rest of them do its just a man doing diy. Cheers

Thanks for the feedback. This is obviously slightly older footage, and I've since got a new camera and mic so hopefully picure quality and sound will improve on new vids, but I'm too tight to pay anyone so it'll always be just me and a camera!! Thanks for the continued support.

I tried that but I found the the twist in the plastic I was more accurate with spirit level. Thanks for the tip.

You did a good job but make sure put some more clips to hold the gutter, and why didn’t you let the felt overhand into the gutter?

Use a string line for your gutter brackets

I used to put a clip each end of the fascia and give it a ping with a chalk line.

Well I've got to say, the amount of times I've walked past and I've never noticed the step in the fascia, so it works....but then I've never noticed your neighbour's 1990s style CCTV camera either! 😂 What about a string line for setting the guttering brackets?

@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE fix bracket at either end of fascia,attach string line from bracket to bracket (maintaining a run) equally space brackets

I didn't fit any of that sorry. Throughout my loft conversion vids I have fitted various plastics like soffit, gutter, fascia, fascia vents, J trim etc. If you want to see those go to my loft conversion playlists and it will be in the title. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

Pouse are them slates on your roof part asbestos?

Asbestos isn't allowed in the UK anymore. It was banned in 1999. The slates are called Cembrit Jutland and are man made fibre cement. Hope that helps.

No, just structural engineer and then building regs notice. I worked out what I wanted although changed the odd bit as I went along. Stairs I got from stairbox online and you can design your own stairs based on your dimensions and it works it all out for you. That's the most complicated bit really unless you're doing a big conversion. Hope that helps.

@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE did you need planning permission? What about a certificate of permitted development?

@@andrewschannel3635 no planning permission required for this project. Most conversions don't providing they stay below existing ridge line and they don't add more than a certain amount of volume. It fell under permitted development. When I spoke to council they said you can apply for a cert to say its permitted development but that cost about 200 quid. But you don't need that certificate. Given the rules are clearly laid out on the planning.gov website I thought I'd save myself £200! Hope that helps. If you speak to your local authority planning department they'll chat to you about it all, at least mine did. They can be more helpful than you might think!!

Yes lad. Keep meaning to ask what part of Wales your from? I’m Glaswegian but lived in Swansea with a group of lads from Bridgend and pencoid. Never felt more at home while being so far away from Glasgow. 👍🏻

East end of the M4 wales! I lived in Swansea for 3 years, great fun. I've passed through Glasgow twice while heading to the Isle of Aaron. I remember calling in Co op for a few cans of Orangeboom! That was 22 years ago so I bet it's changed a bit since then. Thanks for watching!

Why don't you use a string line for your gutters.

I found when the clips were tightened up it was slightly changing the dip of the gutter so using the level was more accurate on this occasion. I also had to run the gutter in different directions given the drainage set up and length of the house so it was just an easier way of doing it accurately to stop the . I have used a string line in the past. Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching.
