I was asked to advise the owner of this house in England about the possibility of building a #houseextension and #loftconversion It turns out neither of these was ideal or necessary. I suggested converting half the garage and altering the internal layout instead.

What about all the smell from cooking going into the living room. I don’t want people smelling my korma and stinking up their clothes

That's the issue i have with open plan kitchen/living spaces; It doesn't lend itself to pungent cuisine. Especially for families like mine, where the majority of our cultural cuisine will smell up the entire house if the kitchen isn't contained.

I’ve often thought of doing an open plan kitchen dining living area like this in my house but the thought of the noise and smell from the kitchen area has always put me off. You would need decent air extraction to remove smells and steam etc but then that will come with more noise ?
