Whether you are taking the initial CFI practical test, an add on CFI practical test, up for CFI renewal, or CFI reinstatement, the knowledge of endorsements is a mandatory item that must me discussed.
This video will take a close look at the CFI PTS and review all of the items that are required for endorsements for that test. Please post any questions that you may have below.

I love these videos. Thank you for providing great resources for all CFI aplicants. Small correction if I may: TSA endorsement is actually not a required endorsement. In the AC is says "recommended"

You should review 49 CFR 1552.13(c). You are correct, though. You can either make the endorsement or keep records. I would make the endorsement.

Hi Todd, You might want to review 61-65, the info you provide for add rating is in error. As you mentioned for an add-on rating, applicant holds a certificate, he is not a student pilot. So you must go to the additional rating section in 61-65…FYI, this is what is required for a any add-on rating, Endorsements: 1, 2 unless written is required, 72 if it’s a different category, 74 for the sign off, as in #1 and 73 its valid for 2 calendar months. So basically only 2 endorsements are required for any addon rating, unless, as I mentioned requires a Complex, etc… or solo time. The endorsements under PVT/COMM DO NOT APPLY! I find this the highest disapproval Tasks on CFI initials for all the categories that I conduct, airplane, helicopter and glider. Ques send a note. Shawn

Sorry for the extremely late reply. The information is correct for an additional pilot at the 16:50 mark and also correct at the 20:06 mark for an additional aircraft. Also, the endorsements for a practical exam are only valid for 60 days from the date of issuance, not 2 calendar months. This is clearly stated in FSIMS. That is why we date the endorsement the same day as the IACRA, since it times out the application after 60 days as well and we don't want one expiring before the other.

Hey todd, if I give 61.93 B1 endorsement do I have to also give 61.93 C 1&2 along with it? Or is it possible to just give 61.93 B1 without complying with C 1&2 ?

You do not need to give the C1&2 endorsement.

Hi Todd is 61.93(b)(1) solo within 25nm a one time endorsement? Or is it a each time issue needed endorsement?

It's a one-time endorsement valid as long as the (n) or (p) is current. It is airport specific, so a pilot may have more than one of them.

Yeah - as long as you have the c1&2 and all of the 87 endorsements that are current.

Hello, Where does it say on the regs that an initial certification can't be commercial? The req's for CPL does NOT say a PPL is needed

If an ASEL was adding on Multi class, would the 61.31d2 stile be required? I ask this in the spirit of a Student pilot who still needs a current 90-day for their practical test. Same type of deal here?

A 61.31(d)(2) is only required if the pilot is going to be solo in the airplane. Once a pilot is certificated, then they can never go back to any of the 61.8X endorsements, as they are no longer considered a student pilot. Hope this helps.

61.31(d) which I believe is a.72 in 61-65H, that endorsement is given if the person needs to solo that aircraft they are adding on, as Todd mentioned they aren’t a student pilot anymore so you can’t give them the student pilot endorsements, you would give the, a.72 to solo…. For the practical test you would give a.74 & a.1
