Got out of Army in early 80's lived in the woods for almost 2 years, built a small cabin with fireplace and a sleeping loft. It was crude but warm it was a small island surrounded by water it was known as fox island they were everywhere. At that time we had no cell phones so it was very peaceful some of the best times for me. I did have a cop stop me on the trail one day and asked if it was me living back there I told him yes a few days later he hunted me down and gave me a puppy ( mutt) said I needed a friend, anyway good vids. keep them coming.
I started my outdoor life at 13, hunting, trapping and camping in Texas. I made a living with the pelts I sold to a fur co. I applaud you for showing people how to survive outdoors. I'm 60+ years old and still teach survival skills to anybody who wants to learn. My wife teaches home canning and other lost skills to folks. God bless you and your family for staying in touch with the outdoors.
No bs but I would love to learn those trades and skills. Love the outdoors but leave deep in Long Beach, CA right by the ocean. I go camping often to Big Bear or San Jacinto Mt in Palm Springs, CA
I love the frugality and reuse of existing material. You and your father made it look so easy. My depression-era grandfather would love this as much as I do. Great job.
Watching you and your Dad interact truly brings a smile to my face. My Dad's been gone for eleven years now... not a day goes by that I don't miss him. Keep up the great videos, and God bless you and your Dad.
Every time and every chance I get I watch you and your dad build pallet wood. There’s nothing better. Here is the U S we have the same type pallets. I’ve decided to buy the g stove once I move to Washington State.
same boat in here buddy! I love seeing son/dad activity. It can be my friends and their dad, TA and his, it just feels good to see them benefiting the most, together, 'cause shit goes down fast man..! Have a good day!
My Dad showed me all that I know and I can pass it on.So have you and your Dad. Thanks. I'm squeamish gutting fish, but I know that it's FOOD! Pancake mix is good for batter frying. Maybe a little pepper.
_"There's none can beat the simplicity of living in your self-reliant cabin. And there's nothing more comforting than sleeping in it during cold, dark and long December, January or February nights"_
I LOVE THIS!!!!! I’m from the South Carolina, U.S. I’m also a military man. In some respects this video reminds me of both. I remember gardens, outhouses, pumping water from wells and no true electricity. & I’m only 43!!!!!!!! The simple life was WAY easier.
I’m 43 too. We are an odd age group. We grew up before all the electronics crap more like our parents. I’m beyond happy I’m not a kid now. It’s a lot harder to just be a kid.
I like watching these right before bed, it’s nice and peaceful videos with lots of motivation for my morning. I’m 16 and kinda growing outta the stuff I used to enjoy and now I’d like to get out and do some of this stuff, you and your father inspire me and make me wish I had the same connection with my pa, take care man please keep making these videos, ur really good with what you do !! Take care and tell the old lady to take it easy. Cheers
G3tRektMWolf Get a tarp, stainless cook kit, knife, cordage, and a sleeping bag. Way better than what kids do these days. They're completely disconnected from nature.
I’m in the same position; I’m 17 now and all I want to do is go camping by myself, but unfortunately no one I know camps or is in touch with nature in general. Also, my mother absolutely won’t allow me to go camping alone, though it’s not like I’d ever have time to, as I am working 30 hours a week and in school 35 hours a week (my last day off was a month and a half ago). Maybe one day I’ll be in a position where I can actually enjoy my life and return to the “simple life” of living hard and rough, but for now that fantasy remains only a goal to work towards.
Well I am an old fella that has spent a lot of my youth in the woods..I built a cabin deep in the woods that I used for many years no one ever got that deep in the woods during the many years I used it.. I split the trees and mud the joints..I also built a small shed to hold food and other things that might attract bears and cougars.. it was great.. I like your cabin.. I would have made it a bit wider maybe 6 or 7 feet across.. But it brings back such good memories. Dang that stove is so nice.. I had to build a stone fireplace like creation and all of these fancy new toys to have fresh ground coffee led lights did I mention that terrific stove? oh hell a coffee press? no camp coffee? what a lucky lad you are.. my dad was only interested in making money the outdoors to him was a place to keep wildlife... and fishing is what those that didn't know any better did so he could have fish at the restaurant.. any way who cares.. he is gone now any way.. one last point.. you need to plant some berries and onions and other fruits and veggies around then bring in some fruit trees then you can have food growing in the wild and meat .. Fruit trees need to be growing for 7 years before they bring forth fruit so get some from a garden shop of tree farm.. and your set for life.. carry on and enjoy...
I disagree, sure it would be a peaceful life, hell I wouldn’t mind trying it for maybe a week, but we should be advancing as a species, not leaving ourselves in the dark ages for whatever natural occurrence to wipe us out of existence.
This is my 4th video I've watched from your pallet wood cabin series and they all have three things in common 1) they're entertaining 2) they make me hungry 3) they make me want a cup of tea Keep up the great work!
What an awesome job you and your Dad did! I am so happy to have stumbled across your website. You need to thank you father 1,000 times for his help....he is great!
@rumpleforeskin73 Agreed. People are pathetic these days. In just a few generations they've lost the skills to do most useful things through laziness and negligence.
Seems to me this is his land that he is building on. I love the solitude and peace. It’s my dream one day have something like this to call my own. Somewhere to drop in and tune out .
This is the last time i will be watching one of your video's late evening ! 1st. i want coffee 2 Im hungry 3 I cant sleep being jealous of your stove and cabin
Love ur work mate. took my son camping for the first time a couple of days ago, it was only in the back yard but he loved it so much... can't wait to take him out by a river for a real adventure... Keep up the great work...
This is still my favorite video from TA outdoors and this particular video bought me first time in this channel.... it's really good to see how this channel grew from few hundred thousands to millions.
I honestly never even thought that I'd find something like this while I was going to search a song on RU-vid. I am so glad I did. This gives me hope. Serious, serious hope that I can actually do something just like this one day. The humble attitude you have, not only charming, but calm and encouraging is something I've never heard in my life before. So grateful your channel is real. Honest love. That's all I've got at this point. This has to be the best video I've ever seen on RU-vid.
I feel so envious.... I think it’s such a blessing to be able to experience what you have. A small log cabin on a lake in the woods has been my life log dream.... one day I’ll get there. I’m living a corporate lifestyle now... and it’s emotionally difficult for me. I do it because I have to....for my kids. When they are grown they can make the choice regarding how they want to live. I’m looking forward to that day!!! Stay blessed!!!
Those candles aren't wax. They're made of stearin. Stearin melts and burns much quicker than wax, which is why the candle manufacturing business adopted it. The faster your candles burn, the faster you have to buy new ones. If you've ever seen candles lit at cemeteries, those ones are made of wax because they burn much slower. One grave candle can burn for 80-120 hours. The way you can tell the difference between them is by either smelling them or touching them. Wax candles stay soft in room temperature and they have a distinctive smell to them as well. Also, they aren't as pure white as stearin candles. Wax candles (if set up properly) won't leave any wax drippings like stearin candles do.
Paraffin wax, beeswax and soy wax all seem to burn at basically the same rate (people make firelighters from them, they do not burn significantly differently).
Hello from across the Atlantic! Florida, USA here. Really enjoyed watching the video of you and your father building the cabin together . Father/son bonding at it's finest. Memory to last a lifetime. The cabin looks great. Well planned and constructed. Very functional. I want to build one! To use to get away from everything/everyone, even if only for a day or two (disconnect as you put it) and submerse myself in the natural beauty of the outdoors. Quiet time alone. To be still...and close to God. The stove looks awesome! Hot bread and hot soup! Toasty inside. Natural lighting. A good beer. Life is good! The only things that I would add are my dog and a campfire outside, obviously, and BBQ over the hot coals. I BBQ quite often, it's a Florida thing. Thanks for the video!
My full admiration to you and your father. For your dedication to outdoor life. Making such a beautiful cabin, simply out of pallet woods. Keeping in touch with nature and the natural world. I also love your G-Stove, excellent device and those wonderful candles. Please continue posting your video clips.
Felix Immler Thank you Felix! So pleased people liked your comment so I could find it. Thank you so much for your kind words and generous gifts my friend! - Mike
Felix Immler.. subbed. With your apparent generosity, your boys are lucky to have such a caring and inspirational parent. Love and prayers from Australia.
I love this little cabin. ♥️ I live in a mountain town in Colorado at 9,000 ft elevation. Our nights dip down below zero in winter but it'd be so fun for the other 3 seasons All I know at this moment is I need some of that bread yum!
Don’t drink coffee much but when you said epic coffee vibe and music and showing hot coffee made me want to go drink some and get in that state of mind lol
I've been contemplating to live off the grid full-time as of recent. I built my cabin when I was 29, the same year I retired. I don't like the city anymore; this is motivational fuel for me. Thank you.
I have been watching my self reliance videos for a little over a year now and I have to say your channel reminds me of his. I love nature and videos like this make me happy and cozy LOL
Just found u on RU-vid but brilliant vlog thank u for sharing please keep this up. I’m from the north of England where it gets a little colder but your bacon bun would benefit greatly with a couple of eggs 🍳. That instinct of living a basic life will never escape us says me with the iPad on my lap! Thanks again.
Idk why I watch a bunch of these but his editing and just his authenticity in a way is above and beyond this is my favorite video like this so thanks for that lol
If somebody would've knocked on that window when he was talking about how he's all alone in the woods...in a middle of a night...This would be a very different video :D
I got cabin like this too But for security reasons I got lots of things with me Ist of burglur alarm system With sensor lights on Plus lots more things Including very loyal 6 dogs with me too.
Always love the pallet wood series with you and your Dad. I’m lucky to have the same kind of relationship with my Dad and as I get older I really see how much he’s helped to shape me as your Dad does you. Shout out to Felix. I teach some woodwork to local scouts and bought his book in English. Some Texas boys will be doing some new projects thanks to you for showing his book on the channel. Cheers y’all.
Much Respect. I've discovered your video of building that cabin last year and it was most impressive, what you and your dad achieved. The cabin looks very cozy.
THIS is the video that caught my eye and I have been HOOKED ever since!! I LOVE the ambiance, the tone of voice ... For the fastest edit turn around video you have done to this point.. you sure Hooked ME!!
seeing your video makes me appreciate the blessings of a rustic life. So many who immerse themselves in our technological existence may never know the pleasure of solitude, of communing with nature, of coming to know and understand the elemental forces that rule us. Perhaps most rewarding of all is the opportunity you've given yourself to set all else aside and really enjoy your relationship with your dad. My dad and I enjoyed many cherished memories of our own cabin life. He would have enjoyed your channel. You are blessed.
Mike better NOT think about Ghost story's then whilst your alone in that awesome little cabin you and your dad made. Yes at the moment, watching you open your mail is more exciting than sitting here trying to sleep with you tube on my TV
I so much enjoyed this video. I am going to pass it along to my son for I know he will really enjoy it. This is something he has spoke of building his own cabin and going to the woods with his family. God bless you and many prayers for you your family and your father. From the U.S🇺🇸🇬🇧❤️
You are living my dream. I'm moving to Alaska as soon as I'm able to save enough money. No drama, no large populations, just me, a cabin, and a dog named Odin living a humble life.
So you’re video where you and your Dad built the pallet cabin popped on my feed today and I absolutely loved it! Then I watched this one and realized you are from the UK. I love everything British! I just love your country (only seeing things on tv and the internet) and I hope once things get back to normal again I can visit. I having really enjoyed watching these 2 videos and can’t wait to watch more!
Awsome!! I'm from India and my life used to be like like this i.e., no electricity, no water supply, and we used to have only one room made from redsoil bricks without cement plaster and no flooring, asbestos roof, yes we were really poor and couldn't afford house in city, so we moved to city outskirts during those days and faced challenges. But I really miss those days, coz everything was so peaceful and pure. The candles in the jar reminded me of my childhood lamps, which was the source of our light. I'm loving this video, coz it's has fresheneshned up my old memories. Gona b building my own house soon with God's willing soon.
Hey Mike, I'm watching from Australia and watched all the series. Loving the cabin. I reckon it's on the to do list now. I've got my mates watching too. Thanks for the effort you put into the channel 👍👍
Nice to see dad and son spending time together. I loved the cabin and enjoyed watching you 2 build it. Minimal Indy spent except for the stove and hand tools.
I could do with one of these after I've been on the lash with the lads you know mate when you go for that one drink then 10 bottles and a takeaway later you get home and the the other half his not letting you in at 11 at night haha yeahhh boyyy
One of my bucket list to camp in the forest alone, build my own bushcraft shelter and honestly my dream to have a little cabin like this one. I love ur videos anyway 🤟💯
Hi mike I’ve been watching your channel for about a year now and I don’t think I’ve ever commented and I’m sorry for that but I think your dad and you are great and I just love relaxing with a couple of beers and watching you both do your thing its awesome
