Stewart's portrayal of senility was so real and raw. I remember sitting in the threatre just awed by his performance. I think it's one of his finest because I felt overwhelmingly helpless for him.
@@iRonlMoNKleY I remember crying at the very beginning, when he was rolling around shouting a Taco Bell commercial. From that moment on, I knew shit was gunna get real.
@@greenbitch421 Yep and the ones were you are being menacingly being charged at by a creepy person or thing and you are like so slow and if you were with people they just ditch you (not sleep paralysis)
Honestly Logan feels like the writers and producers were finally able to release the blue balls they’d had over the years of not being able to go as dark as they wanted, and this film was that beautiful result
Facts cause Logan always been a rated r character even in the comics. Same thing with venom characters like this you can’t make pg13 😭🤦♂️ venom suppose to be dark asf
@@kyronscott176 Venom's understandable since he's a pretty tame character compared to Wolverine. The problem here is making a PG-13 film with Carnage in it. Fucking Carnage. The dude eats people and bites their heads off. He's a psychopathic serial killer who doesn't really have any clear goal apart from spreading chaos. You can't make that PG-13
I don't mean to be the salty guy but, yeah it does show Charles is a nice guy, but him apologizing there is more of a tragedy as he's filled with immense guilt for causing something so unforgivable that he can't even control. Even worse so, considering Charles worked his whole life on Human x Mutant cooperation :(
@@tvnk1174 the characters do what the writer wants them to do so this it's more of a mistake from the writer or maybe charles did have a plan but nobody wanted to use it, who knows it's fiction
Seeing Charles like this is so sad. The man who would stand up to Erik whenever he was going to kill people. Charles knows now that with all his hope and the fight for acceptance of mutants, they would end up being persecuted. In his old age, he no longer has the will to tell them not to kill people. He knows killing solves nothing but it does get rid of the problem until more people keep coming.
Yeah and what sucks in the comics Logan was the one who would kill the rest of the Xmen and students due to Mysterious illusion, but in this movie Charles is suffering from dementia and seizure that he accidentally killed the other X Men and his students, plus the corn syrup that was genetically engineered to suppress the mutation affected Logans healing ability and the Alamantinum is poisoning him, with his healing failing the poison is killing him.
Real question is Where is Eric/Magneto He has that helment that blocks Charles’s physic ability Perhaps Magneto is still alive on an island to protect mutants or he is dead
@@kindplanet1 I think the implication was that Eric has his own community where they mostly kept to themselves. Combined with the lack of new mutants being born and watching his friend accidentally everyone they knew and loved, I think Eric more or less gave up on any fleeting ideas of mutant supremacy, which would include the helmet since it represented a sort of symbol of Magneto and it's ideals
@@ED11169 such a sad future for the mutants. Everything both Charles and Eric fought for slowly withered away as the grow old and realize they are witnessing the end of the mutant era
This scene in theaters was incredible. The sound and reverb growing louder and louder as he gets closer to Charles, until it's so loud that you feel like you have the faintest idea of the agony going on in everyone's mind. It was an amazing experience. Watching it at home just doesn't do it justice.
The sound mixing was orgasmic, ngl. There isn't a melody, but the effect on the viewer, as you wrote is tremendous... you really starts to feel the agony, the mental push what Charles did on the characters. You can even feel the pain of Charles as he has the seizure, and panting. I saw this at the theater, but at home, with a good headphones it is just as powerful. Love it everytime.
fun fact: when they shot this they actually shook the camera violently, but they used stabilization software to keep everything in frames while preserving all that smeary look.
As a past epileptic, this is exactly how a seizure looks. What’s even more crazy about this scene is that Logan neural system as healing as the seizure continues meaning he’s literally fighting through it while he brain is experiencing electrical errors !
Ye. The X men were all stabbed by Logan after the seizure. He went crazy. That’s why Logan feels like crap throughout the entire movie. He wants to make amends.
@@ItsAK69 nope. They were paralyzed by Charles. But it was Logan who did the killing. The first time it happened he went insane. I will send you the comic book url if you don’t believe me. You can also search it up.
This scene is horrific in how it leaves the "Westchester incident" briefly mentioned in the film to your imagination, what went down in the X-Mansion and possibly everyone else died to Charles's seizure.
@@ninjanibba4259 Idk what u think is worst, but to me just the thought that the man who was supposed to protect and help the mutants, to teach and care over the youngers mutants - to make them grow and become Xmen later on- the one who did bring all of them together to live as a family... killing them all because he got sick? is just to painful for me.
@@fijardim7 it’s honestly tragic, for me the comics version was more brutal cuz we had to see the battle and aftermath of the X-men dying….by Wolverines hands literally…..the images after was insane Mysterio is a bastard
Watching this in the theater was one of the most intense things I've ever witnessed. Everything about this scene was on another level: Logan struggling with all his might just to even move, the guys looking at Logan approaching them to KILL them yet they were helpless, the sound, the whole screen shaking. By the end of it, I almost felt as exhausted as Logan.
Man, I watched this at home and the room was silent. It was like Charles' headache was affecting all of us too. We sat frozen til Wolverine injected Professor. I can only imagine how crazy this mustve felt at the cinema.
I kind of thought of this just now but what is actually happening is not Xavier's mind transmitting a signal to freeze people and essentially crush their minds as a form of attack... but he is empathically making everybody FEEL his seizure themselves, but at an amplified manner because of his telepathic abilities
yes, even I was confused too when how Charles seizure freeze people around him then I realize his power of telepathy he is by default connected to everyone mind. So whatever happen to him its automatically happen with everyone else
The only problem with this scene is that after logan stabs the men through the brain they continue standing when they are dead and should just drop to the floor because telepathy doesnt work on them anymore. Unless prof x taps into a lower part of the cns
The whole fucking theater was shaking at this scene. Then the whole theater gasped when the seizure ended like they were also being affected. It was nuts.
I like how this scene implies that Charles Psychic abilities are so powerful that he can still send Neurological electrical signals to a dead man's brain causing the dead body to have a seizure with him. Makes you think that maybe the guy could've been a necromancer of sorts if he wanted to be.
Man this scene in theaters was so intense. The sound was deafening and you really felt like you couldn’t move or take your eyes off the screen. It was so well executed and definitely made to be experienced in theaters. Such a good movie!
Ye. The X men were all stabbed by Logan after the seizure. He went crazy. That’s why Logan feels like crap throughout the entire movie. He wants to make amends.
Charles' seizures was done so well, felt so real because its something that can probably happen to a mutant in real life. Heart-breaking to think what it must have been like the first time this happened to him. Imagine the shock, horror and helplessness.
Yeah especially an IM injection which has to absorb through muscle tissue. If Wolverine took the time to find a vein to inject it into then maaaybe you cut the tine to around 5-10 min give or take, but it's definitely not instantaneous.
Dunno how true that is. One of the main points of intravenous drug administration is the rapid onset of effects, since it doesn't need to be digested. I've seen Herion users inject themselves and that shit kicks in pretty god damn instantly. In fact, just googling it rq, the wiki page for "drug injection" says this: " injection is favoured by some people as the full effects of the drug are experienced very quickly, typically in five to ten seconds." I'm sure it's different for different drugs but it seems pretty within the realm of believability that this drug could tranquilize him quickly.
He probably would have killed everyone in Las Vegas, at the very least, quite possibly far beyond. In X2 he stated he could kill someone just by thinking hard enough about it. Now Alzheimer's is shredding his mind slowly but surely and he's clearly effectively lost any control of his powers. Yet, with the little time he has left, though? He still tries to help, a good man and hero right to Deaths door. One of the greatest minds Mutation ever produced reduced to little more than the telepathic equivalent of a nuclear bomb going off inside of people's minds when he looses it like this. If there's anyone less deserving of such an awful end to a life well lived? Name them here.
If he had been connected to Cerebro while having a seizure he would anhilate almost all life on the planet. The only ones who would survived would be some Omega mutants and characters that are almost immortal like Deadpool. But death will be the better option because unkillable mutants will be trapped in endless agony.
At least they're showing X's power. He usually gets kidnapped, or there is another plot device to hinder him. Realistically, he can finish any fight. Without any suits, or helmets, or etc. During an one on one battle, he's going to have you eating apple sauce like a baby. Shadow King, Emma, - any earth based non-phoenix beings are no match for him.
It also shows that being the most powerful person on Earth carries an equal amount of weight. He probably wants to shut all of it off sometimes and silence all the noise. Now that he's lost control, he's scared and worried about what's going to happen to him and the rest of the people around him. So tormented. Brilliant performance and work by the crew.
Which makes the impact of this scene much greater. What happens when the man with the greatest mind on Earth, no longer had control over his own mind, succumbing to old age and brain diseases? Turns out, it would be disastrous
It pains me to see Charles like this. He wanted to help both humans and mutants with his gift but now that gift is killing them, it’s a twisted sense of irony.
@@thornwall6303 has nothing to do with speed. Only their healing abilities made him and Laura withstand the freezing effect of the seizure. So they were still able to move.
@@dietermitplatten Ok? I'm not saying that Logan was fast, I'm saying he had a Quicksilver scene. Everyone else was frozen in place while he interacted with the surrounding environment
This scene is really cool. It shows how completely destructive Charles' powers are. He could probably just wipe out a whole towns population in a instant if he was trying. I think many people forget that his telepathy is on a whole northern level.
I find it fascinating that this movie(and this scene) showed Charles' fiercest protectors: the one who's known him for years, and the other who'd only just met him. Truly something that both of them are so devoted.
His telepathy is so potent that even electronic devices around him are glitching out. 0:24, look at the small screen, you’ll see it glitch to the left.
It would make sense that his powers must be some sort have magnetism or electrical impulses that can affect the brain. When he loses control it must started affecting everything.
Would probably also explain why the mercenaries are still standing despite being stabbed. The electric impulses in their muscles are probably still working.
Seeing this scene in theaters was insane, especially close to the front row cause the speakers are booming,it almost felt like i couldn’t breathe either
I remember when I went to see this in theatres, the whole theatre was just frozen in complete shock and anxiety. Nobody got up to go to the bathroom at all until the scene ended. I also loved that the whole theatre was ONLY adults when I went
@@rilesdoessonicstuff5653 Well yeah but there have been quite a few scenarios where adults take their kids to see R rated films. Like the times I went to see both Sausage party, IT 2017, and Joker, BOTH screenings I went to there were parents who took their damn kids to see those films. Apparently even some parents took their kids to see DEADPOOL (thankfully not at the screening I went to for that film)
@@dong.corleone perhaps the laws are different here. For us, so long as you're under the age of 18, you simply cannot view the film, regardless of whether or not there is an adult with you Also I really hope that they weren't 5th graders seeing Deadpool, cuz honestly that just feels like some kinda bad parenting
@@rilesdoessonicstuff5653 I wouldn’t know for my screening, my screening for DEADPOOL (first film anyways) was all adults. With LOGAN on the other hand, literally quite a few cinema goers had to be ID’d to see the film
Another one of the reasons why this movie made me cry so much, both my grandparents suffered from brain issues in the last part of their lives. Seeing Charles like that just hit me so hard. This movie is the biggest punch in the gut ive ever received.
When Logan stabs the guys through the head, why don't they immediately drop to the floor? Professor X is psychic, not telekinetic, so what is keeping them standing when they're dead?
Yeah something like that, Charles was keeping them from shutting down, that's why they didin't fell down. One shudders to imagine how long the other mutants and humans stood dead in their last position during Charles's deadly seizure before recovering his composure.
@@henrikmonkee Personally, I'm imagining horrifying things like Nightcrawler being stuck mid-teleport, or Quicksilver's super speed destroying his body, as his brain and body screech to a halt.
Watching this is in theaters was a different level of emotions I was really heartbroken whenever Charles suffered from a seizure especially when he apologized to everyone because he didn’t meant to hurt them 😓
everyone else was feeling pain, but imagine how much pain charles was feeling, he was connected to everyone's brain and feeling everyone else's pain while also having a seizure
It also shows how powerful wolverine is despite his age as well. I mean think about it his healing factor still allows him to move thru Charles even tho it’s allot slower. He got to Charles before his daughter did and she was in the same room with a younger healing factor. If he was in his prime, he could have done everything he just did with little or no trouble.
It was portrayed as if logan was approaching the open core of Chernobyl and the radiation is unbearably strong that it is slowing him down as he went closer.
I swear, every future in X-Men lore is miserable. I can’t think of one timeline or alternate timeline where the X-Men aren’t dead, mutants are dead or being hunted, one of the X-Men lost control or killed everyone on the team, etc. Mutants in Marvel just have it so rough.
This is one of THE best superhero action scenes, and it doesn't require cgi or karate to be that. Just everything about it is top notch and the fact it's in a Fox X-Men film is a travesty.
Ye. The X men were all stabbed by Logan after the seizure. He went crazy. That’s why Logan feels like crap throughout the entire movie. He wants to make amends.
BTS: Hugh Jackman was being pulled by some artists with rope, so that it could add realistic effect to Wolverine feeling the power of Xavier's seizure.
There was silence in the cinema when this happened, just a "What...?" moment... Charles Xavier, the first of the X-Men, elderly and physically failing, just completely lost his mind...? No, worse, his illness took him so far away from himself he didn't know what he was doing. Worse again, only old man Logan and his young daughter are there to look after him, to help. What happened to the X-Men, his family and friends? Why can't he remember? Why won't Logan tell him...? When you realise that the X-Men would NEVER abandon Charles, no matter his illness or frailty? Then you see this? It suddenly becomes very obvious what happened in Westchester...
I personally find the concept of a superhero's powers freaking out when they have a seizure really interesting. To my knowledge, the only examples of this are this scene from Logan and Polarity's seizure from Gen V
