I love the commentary Chris. It adds so much to the videos when we are given insight into why you do things a certain way, what the issues are and how you overcome them. You'll have bred a bunch of armchair operators over the years. I can't see an excavator in my travels without telling my wife stuff like 'That's the wrong bucket for that job' or saying how much the excavator probably cost.
Preacher! I'm SW Houston and they are widening Kegans Glenn canal over my back fence. 2 Hyundai 3300's excavators, a dozer, a loader and a compactor. EVERY day they march down from their rally point to continue work (just under a mile, so far). Back to rally for lunch, work, back to rally for quitting time. Last week I saw a 3300 slicking 15' from the water line for an hour that would have taken the doser 3 minutes. I may not be well...
Logging does make a mess of your land. So glad the mill was taking lumber. Chris I know you will make it beautiful. Light up some piles. We are all waiting. Get some rest.
Wow that 25 minute sycamore stump was a beauty. Only 5 flies - ever heard of the Aussie wave :) - they or even one is a proverbial pain. Don't always realize how many trees have been removed until the brush and stumps are in evidence. Loving this project LetsDig18.
Thanks for bringing us along on your adventures. It doesn't seem to matter about the terrain, you figure out a way and it's fun to watch. Can't wait for the burning of these piles. Have a good weekend, Chris.
Stumping is always work but it has changed tremendously. At least you have excellent equipment for it. In my day Betty would be the ultimate stumper. I can't tell you the number of hours I spent on a 955H pedal steer doing it. Only thing worse would have been on an older stick steer.
One thing about Chris, he’s become one of the best narrators on YT. He always keeps us informed and what he says is interesting and entertaining. You’d think after so many videos he’d be talked out, but no, he’s just as glib as ever. I admire his ability to keep us informed and entertained. I like his style, pace, etc. Thanks, Chris.
Trivia.... We are in central indiana. We were talking one day about no poplar to speak of West of the wabash river. But cottonwood all the way to the Rockies.. It turns out its was the prairie fires.. Cotton wood is fire resistant and poplar not so. The Wabash was a naturall fire break.... Also more trees are bring planted today than are being harvested East of the Mississippi. Mostly because states give tree farms a propert tax break. And non tillable is not used as Much for pasture. Indy is the 4th largest hardwood producing state. Big business today growing trees. Most tree tops now here are chipped. Right at harvest time. For mulch and for the chip board plants making chipboard. And dome to pellet mills making pellets for heating. Very little waste any more. Use sawdust at the mill to heat and in kilns to dry lumber. I really enjoy these videos.
Well we are privileged to watch the Earth Artist paint another great Earth Picture with his earth painting equipment. Thank You Chris for letting us follow along and you create another great picture.
Man, the feeder roots on some of those stumps are really long. I am sure some of that is vines, but it is amazing what a bog with red clay underneath will allow some really big trees to anchor and spread. The really big stumps will make great fish habitats.
No matter the project, u make the best of it. Your narration keeps it light and funny, thank u for video! Loved it. Even though frustrating, gaining good progress with grapple. God's blessings and be careful.
if you can reclaim the spring, you will fix the bog issue. I have a spring buried under 4 feet of sediment. I know I will never find that spring as I have been searching for 40 years. It has made a great place to lose equipment!
The joys of stump removal. My old +35 yr old Hitachi EX120- 2 struggles with the large pine stumps here in low country SC. It is not uncommon to take 30 min per stump and then I have a 10-12ft long stump that I can barely lift. However It sure does beat a pick and shovel!! Really like the stumping attachment. Definitely the best tool for the job.
Man, that logging sure leaves a shit load of trash to get up !! And that ain't even counting the stumps, and raking !! That section of woods you took out sure had a lot of vines in too, ya know it !!But, I think you will get threw all that pretty quick !! Got a good dent in it already... Great as always Chris !! Have a Great Evening, And, On too the next !!
Logging Party has ended and now to the Stumping Party - the Fun never ends - ha ! Burn Piles are Growing - we will see some Great Fires soon - wow ! But the Flies Love You - they want to be with You ! Much more Progress Today - You sounded very Happy ! Many Cheers from Australia !!!!
This Workday a Stumping "Party" to name, is very humour!. You must besides the complete Tree branch, and to Heaps to make even with Stumps between, for the next Rainday to burn up. This Workday hard! 💪 The Stumping not to End. However a very interesting Video. Thanks 👌👍
Another pond in the making Chris, I was looking at a few of the older ponds you made and was wondering if it’s possible to gat a compilation of pond’s progress 1, 2 and 3 years on maybe others would like to see them too,
We had flies here like it was a plague. Millions of em on everything. Open door in house and a 1000 would come in. We put sticky traps in everything including cars. Went through dozens of em.
Well, I got a feeling this is gonna be a nice 6 to 10 episodes pond build. It's Goody Gumdrop time with Chris working on two ponds at the same time plus the other projects he has going on around his farmstead. Good times. I'd have to have a coffee maker in that excavator to keep awake stumping. Heck, all the time actually.
You’re making good progress. Seems to be one lot of brush to burn for the size of the area you are working in, however,, makes for good burn videos though. Thanks for the update sir.
This logging-operation looks so foreign to my Scandinavian eyes. Probably works just as well but it's... different. By no means am I any forrest-worker, but we have a lot of woods in Sweden and the way we clear large areas of forrest is quite efficient using a harvester and a forwarder. When done only the stumps are left as limbs and such is gathered in and chipped. The area is then re-forrested by planting new fir/pine-trees to replace the old... 70-80 years later the process repeats.
I don't know about anyone else...BUT! It would have been awesome to see Wade here for the clearing of the trees. I love his cameos!! :) Other than that..OMG You are a Maestro! Knowing what can and can't be done in any given situation! Like Trevor said...I am now a armchair Operator now! I KNOW EVERYTHING!!! NOT!
Another great video Chris but man you need to get you a taller turn out pipe like the one that’s on Betty and put on your D6 and that way it will get that smoke and that noise out from under that cab but that’s just my suggestion but anyway my friend will see you on your next video
Ya know how you can yawn and 'cause' somebody near you to yawn also. I yawned about 2 seconds ahead of you at 16:22 and laughed WAY to hard. BTW love my Lock n Lube that you recommended.
Chris FLY problem ? Try setting AC to below 50, flies hate the cold they go dormant, leave tiny gap in open window they should leave !!! Or get an insectecuter !
I wonder what this place was like after the monster rains you guys recently got that flooded Chris's place and the 10 acre pond from last summers build
