I would rather use clover on semi shaded trails. In more open plots I have very good luck broadcasting buckwheat after disking a then just rolling over the seeds with a lawn roller behind my ATV.

Perfect timing. I just got new land and the biggest sections of cleared land are the logging roads and i can only get clover to grow sparse! Keep up the great videos

Very nice congrats on the new land. Just make sure you can access those roads without spooking deer if you plant on hunting them or using them as transition zones. 🌱🍀✔️🦃🦌👊

I can only get an atv in there once per year due to city restriction issues so we’re avoiding the logging roads and using them as our food plots that run past a couple stands placed just off the roads. The deer use it as travel corridors

Will you be hunting along this seeded trail? Does the terminator do a good job of working your cover crop into the soil as green manure? Some guys just terminate the cover crop and seed right into it. Seems like it would be more beneficial to work it into the soil?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 года назад
I don’t follow a no till method never have. I will work it back into the soil as mentioned. The firminator does a great job at that. I won’t be hunting directly along side of this trail I will be hunting a transition from this to a bigger plot in my next video I explain the stand up related to this

You ever mix in rye or wheat with clover or chicory so when the clover or chicory fizzles out with cold the rye is still there? If so how much cereal grains do you add in with clover or chicory? Also can you plant clover or chicory in July with success? Everyone says it's too hot
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 года назад
Yes all the time. I mix clover with wheat works well.
@fueledtohunt2173
@fueledtohunt2173 3 года назад
@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors do you only plant buckwheat in July and save the clover for spring or fall?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 года назад
Just depends on what I’m doing or what my goals are. Usually if I’m wanting to improve soil I plant buck wheat the first year in the summer and then for the fall I’ll Plant wheat and oats or wheat and clover or maybe even brassicas if there’s enough room. I’ll definitely plant clover in the fall if I’m trying to have a perennial plot the following spring I’ll either mix that in with brassicas or the wheat.

@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors I just cut in new food plots and I sprayed 24d but the soil has never had anything planted in it yet. It's getting kind late to plant buckwheat I assume? Just trying to find something I can build soil and keep herbicide use to a minimum. Also wanted to plant some egyptian wheat or sorghum for screening

Is it to late to plant oats? I have some winter wheat that just died and need to till it back in and was wondering if it would be best to do it now, plant oats and till before fall food plot or wait until the fall. I have beans ag around the property so this would not be the main source of food. Thoughts?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors 3 года назад
I would not plant oats at this point. I would just let it go until you are ready to plant your fall plot. Plant 50-60 days before your average frost.

Your Buckwheat looks great. Your plants are tall and dark green, even the seeds are nice sized. I planted my Buckwheat, the seeds were tiny and the plants only grew 12-18”? Are there different types of Buckwheat? What the heck did I plant?
@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors

They should be 12-18 inches in about 2 weeks or so. Buck wheat is buck wheat lol not sure what you planted haha. Thank you
