Astronomy and Astrology are two different things. Our ancient knowledge is Astronomy not astrology. If you read Swami Vivekananda’s books, he has clearly mentioned that Astrology is for weak minds and it came from greeks to india. And also if you search on internet that when was astrology founded - it is clearly mentioned that it was founded in mesopotamia.

Astrology in the Vedic Context is called jyotisha. It's given by Parashara Rishi and the Sanskrit Vedic text dedicated to this is Called Parashara Hora Shastra which is a detailed volume. The work in written in Sanskrit with ancient dialect like Mahabharath. Other than this text we have something called Jaimani Sutram, Jataka Parigatha etc which are works of astrology. Jyotisha or Astrology has various branches called angas - Ganita Jyotisha is a mathematical Anga and deals with movement of relevant celestial objects and calculations of time of movement of planets, life of stars, precision of the equinox and change of North pole star position called Ayanamsha etc. This is nothing but Vedic astronomy of ancient times, where is calculation of the Hindu Calendar, Seasons, earth's movment around the Sun, Suns entry into various zodiacs from the earth's POV etc are calculated. Hora is predictive Astrology - Where in predictions based on above calculations are made, whether it's seasonal changes, or personal impact on human life etc. As far as your suggestion that astrology is Mesopotamian ideology is concerned, that civilization could have had their own method. But Indian astrology is not a borrowed concept and is native to Indian culture and tradition. Your narrative that Ancient Indian astrology and astronomy are not same is incorrect. Ancient Indian astronomy is a wing of a broader subject called jyotisha or Astrology There are overall 6 wings i.e observational astronomy (gola), calculations (ganita) , natal astrology (jataka), answering questions (prashna), choosing beginnings (muhurta), and interpretation of omens (nimita). All of them are spoken clearly about in relevant Sanskrit Vedic texts in great detail.

I personally know people whose guna match score is 30+ and they ended up being divorced within a very short span of time. Moreover , I know folks whose guna match score is 9+, and even then they went ahead and married and they're quite supportive w each other. Nowadays, even astrologer has started saying that guna match score doesn't guarantee a happy and long married life. So yeah, ... Personally, I'd evaluate if the person I'm planning to get married to can endure ups and downs and provide a platform for a stable marital bond. More than guna score, I'd focus on Navamasa, Moon and dashas. But first thing, if you've already spent considerable amount of time already, and you know the person in and out, then maybe .......... You know better, buddy.. all the best! I've been there too..

Gunas matching doesn't guarantee kundli matching. Gunas you may get 36/36 just because of the star and moon sign but Jatakam/Kundli matching is much deeper depending on the birth charts and where the planets are residing and how the planet compatibility exists in the turn of events in the future and repercussions it had in the past. 12 houses and 9 planets and you do the probability now, those are the combinations existing. Sometimes 2-3 planets may exist in the same house. Planets have something called favourable house and unfavourable house. There is a lot of mathematics involved in this than you understand and think of.

So what's the best method to match two horoscopes, according to you....? Personally, I'd focus on theme indicated by an individual's chart - whether I'm comfortable w that energy/theme or not , then I'll see Navamasa, 9th house, moon and Sun. What do you recommend...?

@@tintintintin576 I agree with what you are saying, like that is the standard procedure laid down from centuries for predictive astrology. Indian Astrology mainly depends on the moon to my understanding. The birth chart is nothing but the place of planets and constellations at that time with respect to Earth's position. So to my understanding and from my Guru's teaching. Astrology is only one dimension of the total 5 different dimensions existing which govern the possibilities of a life's journey. If you are cracking astrology, it's like you are just cracking 1/5th or 20% of the 100%. Just imagine 5 concentric circle metal sheets with holes in it at different intervals. Imagine in the centre, it is the human being and there is source of light existing outside of these 5 concentric metal sheets. All these are rotating at different speeds. One being the past karma from all the lives you may have accumulated and which we are not aware of, second being the lineage and the family born into and the ancestors karma and past, 3rd being the time place and the country you live and the karma it carries, 4th being your own day to day karma and existential circumstances at personal level, 5th being your birth chart and other information. Now, how many times the light may pass through all the perforated metal sheets and the light falls on you, probably a few times in a whole life time. That source of light is that universal energy or God particle touching you completely and you being protected from everything else.
