Logic Circuits need Decoupling Capacitors - but what is Coupling? 

We all know that logic circuits need decoupling capacitors, but what do they prevent? What exactly is coupling.
Here I have two 7555 oscillator circuits and their behaviour is completely different when the decoupling capacitors are removed.
