Excellent video. I found the Logic integration didn’t go far enough on my LaunchPad X, so I programmed a Custom Mode and added Transport controls, Next/Prev Marker, Zoom horn in/out and Zoom vert in/out, Goto Marker #, Edit Tools, and Drum Machine Designer pad notes. I’m happy now 😁
CORRECTION: 10.6 launchpad support was added, not 10.7. At the moment there is no version 10.7. I didn't realize I said that until a day after I uploaded the video!
The one thing I would really like to see is more fluidity when using the live loops mode for jamming with live instruments. Like being able to record 2 or more live instruments at the same time and keep the loop going so I can build songs with my band kinda like FKJ and Masego did on “Tadow”. If you could provide any insight on how this could be done I would gladly appreciate it 😄. Keep up the good videos
I know I came a decade later, but another workaround to stop playback from the launchpad is to midi assign the stop function to the Capture MIDI button on the launchpad via learn assignment.
Thanks again for your super helpful videos! I am a huge fan !! I have a controller-related question to you. I am trying to use Logic's Live Loops for live performances: triggering loops but playing on keyboards at the same time. Is it possible to have 2 different keyboards connected to 2 different VSTs at the same time, while having loops playing in the background? I'd like, for example, to play a bass on one keyboard, a pad on another, at the same time. Thanks in advance!
Hey thanks! You've mentioned previously that you would do a video on this, and there it is! I got my Launchpad Pro last week, but barely had time to play with it. Now I will, very soon. Now I want to sell off my Launchpad Mini, since I bought it specifically for 10.5. But with 10.6, there are more options, not to mention velocity, with the Launchpad Pro. I like the idea of the workaround to do a full stop by leaving the left column blank; actually, the function to stop playback of all clips for a column (or scattered, even) is available. On the Launchpad Pro (MK3), you have to navigate to the first column of empty cells to the right of the last column with one or more cells of content, then press the scene button underneath that blank column to stop playback. Thanks for this video; I'm sure to return to it, a few times.
Cheers Velanche! I missed this comment when I got my LPP3, but saw it just now when I needed it. (And of course thank you MusicTechHelpGuy). Humbly Ylan
So I asked if there's a way to keep the lights turned off on the Launchpad Pro when not in use, without having to unplug the USB-C cable from the device. Whenever I restart or turn on my Mac, the device defaults to Notes mode. I just simply press the Custom button next to the Chords mode button, and the lights will turn off. The outer buttons will be lit, but it's a lot less obtrusive and is pretty much in the background. Hope this helps out a few of you.
Hi! Do you have any idea if one can control/trigger the Logic Pro internal step sequencer using the Launchpad? Could not find any info on that. Many THX
Does launchpad can sand commands to logic (mute, solo, open mixer etc), and can I save my custom template for this? If yes can I easy jump between controlling logic template, and standard note input/produce template? Thank you!
Something changed in Logic 10.7. My custom controls on my Launchpad X caused erratic behaviour and the Session mode would not work at all. Had to delete the preference .cs file and have Logic rebuild it on startup. I’m still investigating.
i've read that the capture midi button is essentially void in logic pro? is this true? it means i've now bought this and i can't even record things on the fly..yikes
@@Jacob-ir6zi old generations do work, and even new iPads cost about the same as launchpad (329 for 8th gen iPad versus 299 for launchpad used in this vid) Also, the remote app offers much more functionality. E.g., You don’t need blank columns just to stop the music
@@cjgoeson no they fucking don't. You can't use logic remote without iOS 13.4 on a first gen iPad air and that ipad air won't update its OS past 12.4.9. Also a launchpad is $200 and going for $150 right now on sweetwater
@@Jacob-ir6zi just because you can’t use the app on your 7-year-old iPad doesn’t mean everybody needs a new one 🤦♂️ A lot of people have something in-between and many of those will work perfectly. Cost for those people is $0.00
Hi, enjoying the video :) I was wondering: did I hear you say Logic 10.7? Didn't they just release 10.6, hahaha? I can't find the 10.7 version. Or am I missing something? Cheers!
@@MusicTechHelpGuy lol, light panic, but I'm okay now ;) Great video. Experimenting right now, considering buying a launchpad. Cheers, thanks for answering!
@@iainmcguire7190 They added 'broken' support in 10.5. It didn't work properly like this until 10.6. I actually spoke directly with the developers of Logic about this, before making this video.
@@MusicTechHelpGuyWell, if that's the criteria, it's still broken in 10.6. Try getting the user modes to do anything on a launchpad mini. Or volume, or pan. They're useless, completely don't work
I recently purchased the launchpad pro mk3 and for some reason it is not picking it up in control surfaces/setup. There is launchpad pro but looks like the mk 2 version. Tried automatic installation and unplugged then connected back up and still nothing. It is working as far as chord and note features but session is dimmed out and not working. Any help would greatly appreciated
IMO, not necessarily a matter of more or better, but more like workflow preference. With Launchpads, they are more tactile with the pads and buttons, but especially for the X and Pro models the pads are velocity-sensitive. I have both, so maybe using both can get you the best of both words. But if you have to have only one, again I think it’ll come down to workflow preferences.
@@Adam-bx4us2 Ableton Live is still the King when it comes to live looping performances. If you have a Novation keyboard or launchpad you can launch clips and get an excellent performance out if it. The Cells feature is still in the infancy mode on Logic and I have switched to Windows so it’ll be Ableton for me. Don’t want to be stuck in the Apple system
Q: Can the device be left plugged in, without the lights displaying? As of now, I have to unplug it when I'm not using it. Not anywhere near a deal-breaker, but absent a power switch, plugging and unplugging the cable is clunky.
Hey, I have Launchpad X and when you press and hold Session button, opens lighting settings. In that mode, click the one square at bottom right and it turns off the lights until you touch any of the buttons again. Hope this helps!
@@EmiriccIsHere Thanks for the suggestion. That did not work for me, because when I plug the cable in, its default (the Pro MK3) is Notes mode, and Session mode is unavailable. But...when I pressed the Custom button, the 8x8 pads went dark. The surrounding buttons are lit, but it's way less bothersome. This might help a few peeps.
Im either not smart enough to understand Live Loops or it's just a pos I can't figure it out. nothing ever plays back or loops correctly and I feel like the cell options are severely limited.
They both well as long as you’re on 10.6 or higher. The Pro mk3 has additional separate buttons for triggering scenes in live loops. So I prefer the pro mk3 personally.
Don’t know what I did but everything was setup fine. Went in for a session and my launchpad x now starts in mixer mode in session and I can’t get it back to read my scenes. When I push session it goes to a blank screen on the launchpad. No scenes are visible. HELP!!!!
