Things do get more complex as your settlement grows. Especially if youre producing high quality goods that have even more steps to process than the already complicated salted meat. But keep messing around with the logistics video to see what order best your settlement :D

So essentially, a marketplace is a Supply Terminal (or a Delivery Station if you have the Delivery upgrade), that instead of the player having to manually select items, it "autoselects" all the products that the houses within its radius needs. For some reason that mindset helps me imagine Supply Terminals and Delivery Stations better. They just un-upgraded and upgraded marketplaces for production chains. Wish there were some presets you could select for different chains, e.g. selecting "ore processing" would quick select things like sand, clay, iron ore, wood, and refined fuel

You're absolutely spot on! The marketplace is pretty much a supply/delivery station for homes. Nice observation. 😊

One thing I found: For things that you're always going to have a lot of, like dried dung if you're going mostly meat, or water, you might want to designate just one storage building for that particular resource and then tell all the others not to take it. That way, you don't end up with all your storage buildings full, and you can't put food into storage because you have six hundred tons of crap.

@@stratost371 I'd love too, but the problem is that those cities are from the beta, closer to when the game first released. Lot of newer features no longer work. So those cities don't work well anymore. But I know I can make a better city with the lasted version now. And when I do, I'll make a tour guide for that! ☺️

Why can’t a production shop, like a smitty for example, produce tools and have a small storage in the shop, like 50. Only store the finished product, the tool. And have the community pick up the tool and store it in a warehouse. While the villagers able to pick up the tool directly for use. Another example, a fishing boat, a salt mine, and a curer all next to each other and each have a small storage of their rightful production. Fish stored at the fishing boat, salt stored in the salt mine… the curer can grab the fish directly, grab the salt directly and store the cured fish in the cured production shop. The villagers can now pickup the salted fish directly from the curer shop to take either to their house or warehouse. Idk I’m confused 😮

@@Chris-wo9nm That's just the way the game was made, I guess...? Again, having a nearby place for workers to store goods is how you want to approach production buildings.

Wow! This was great. Really appreciate the breakdown and examples you had here. I feel I mastered Banished but haven't been able to transfer that to this game just yet. However, this overview gave me the inspiration to go deeper into the individual systems to build my settlements.

excellent work. ive been trying to figure this out for a little while now, bemoaning the lack of prioritized stockpiles found in rimworld... but i never took the time to try and look past the surface of logistics in this game. your video is an excellent visual aid. thank you for it.

Oh yeah. Looks simple at first, but yes. logistics is such a huge hidden factor that not many people are aware of. I hope this video allows people to be more aware about the placement of their production buildings, and logistics buildings in their settlements.

This is it. This is what I need. Thank you! Also, can you explain how boiler room work? I read online comment but they're all old. Even the description isn't the same one. Another question. I build a compost plant and surround it with plantations (8 in total). I don't know if bonus production only effect farm tiles in the green zone, or the whole farm got a bonus if a single tile is in the green zone. I want to know about this to too. Thanks in advance!

I'm glad you found what you came here for :) At the time I wrote this, boiler rooms work like this. They only work to heat up homes. Even though homes will still store fuel, those homes will not consume fuel, but rather consume fuel from the boiler room. Settlers will never go inside a boiler room to direct use for heat. Only the individual farm tiles will yield the bonus (Not including the building tiles). More tiles covered, the greater the total yield.

very nice, i was just watching the old video and wishing there was an updated version. do you know which buildings work with animal power? or does animal power just apply to all logistics buildings now without individual upgrades? in what situations would you mix and match different logistics buildings? it seems like it may be useful to mix and match as the supply chain grows more branches, to service multiple locations at once, but i'm also not sure how you would set a priority for a particular location, for example if i wanted to prioritize special medicine over medicinal soap. also, do you know if transfer buildings can deliver directly to supply or delivery buildings?

There is a priority tab in the in game management menu I don't remember what the tabs called exactly but it allows you to prioritize the use of items so if you give medicinal soap a higher priority than salt soap the citizens should consume it at a higher rate in order to direct where the item is delivered to then make sure the nearest storage that accepts med soap is the one you want it going to or else they'll deliver it to the nearest one. That's how you keep it from going to the wrong place, hypothetically speaking so long as the others don't accept medical soap then it should go to the nearest that does although it's not the nearest storage.

I figure that a Delivery Station acquires things its need, and Market Vendors already go out to get items that things in the 'village' it supports requires, and with Transport Stations sending things out from districts to a central warehouse, I cant figure out why I would use a supply station.

@@bobmccroy3472 Supply stations are used to store any designated items. Its up to you on how to use them. The delivery station has limitations. it can only bring items to production buildings. One example i used was supply stations can hold fertilizer for your settlers to gather from, since farms are not production buildings they can deliver to.

Thanks for this video!! I was having difficulty understanding how each of these buildings worked - game changer!!! I'd love to see a video explaining how the trading system works - I'm finding that also quite difficult to understand - I have an abundance of resources that I'd like to sell but it's very tedious to be only able to sell 300 items at a time via the trading posts. is there an easier way to sell bulk amounts?

I'm glad this video helped you. 🙂 A guide about trade is very high on my priority list. I hope to get that out as soon as things are better in my personal life. But I'll give you this tip about bulk sell. Use the dock to bulk sell. Sure it doesn't make you as much money as selling from caravans, but the dock can hold up to 50K in weight. And 100 with the storage remodel. So if space saving is what you're looking for. You can get rid of mass amounts of goods using the dock. ☺️

Thank you! It's mostly Adobe After Effects. It's simple effects like moving images, and changing opacity to make things appear and disappear. ☺️

Very nice explanation, watched this video 3 times now! This helped me very much as I'm still on my very first settlement. 🏠🏠 From what I experienced so far, the amount of space & workers used for production buildings are roughly the same needed for logistics. ⚒️🛠️=🚚📦 So lets say 100-tiles-worth of space is used to plonk down production buildings, you also need 100-tiles-worth of logistics buildings (storages & transfer/delivery) ⚒️🏠=📦🏠, 5 production workers needs 5 logistics workers. ⚒️👷=📦👷 But if you're really efficient, this ratio can get larger, with less logistics needed per production

Yes, actually! however, theres a bit of a side effect doing this. If a marketplace is the closest structure that holds clothes and tools. Porters will take from that marketplace. BUT the marketplace vendors will always take those clothes and tools from the supply terminal, so you create a loop where the two buildings are taking from each other. I suggest making sure a storage building holding the tools and clothes is in between the two structures, to prevent them from taking from each other. This issue needs to fixed by the devs, and this is why i didnt use that as an example in the video, even though it theoretically works.

If you're talking about the brown looking UI. That was from the Beta of this game. My Large Settlements are from that and I had to switch to the older version of the game to get shots of my more complex logistics systems. Those settlements have over 500 hours total. So I haven't had the chance to do that again in the latest version.
