I wanted to pain the top base black to have high contrast with the white keys but after watching this I am very hesitant, there enough screws to build a house on this keyboard

I am so frustrated there are screws under sticky parts of the keyboard. Is that really necessary??? This is an enthusiast keyboard!!! 🤬 Typing this on a mostly broken down keyboard too! Thanks for the breakdown vid!

Coffee spilled on my keyboard and my logitech mouse and air pods. Just took this keyboard apart, and I am going to try to salvage it as much as I can. First tech project for me as well. Thank you so much for the helpful video! Learning something new, and perhaps saving some electronics in the process, couldn’t be more thankful.

@dracopug
@dracopug 3 месяца назад
Tbh it was bigger than i imagined given how piss-poor the battery life is. These tech companies always put the tiniest capacities in their peripherals. Take game controllers for example, they commonly have less than 1000mAh, when phones of a similar-ish size have 5000.

@Brandon Thanks for letting us know. I didn't have a clue and now I'm exactly in this situation. I poured beer over it and some switches are now sticky. Is there a possibility that I can open up the keyboard and clean from the backside of the pcb? Or would you say that fluid/suger went into the switch itself and I'm screwed? Or is there a way to pour a fluid inside the switch that removes/takes apart the sugar molecules so that the switches are not sticky anymore? Thanks for the help!

@VanosPoint
@VanosPoint 12 дней назад
@@qwerty37 I just replaced one. You have to unsolder it and resolder the new switch. Be very careful at the type of replacement switch you buy. I bought a set of red switches that had a smaller gap between the holes and I had to modify them so the keycaps could it. This keyboard is such a big disappointment to me.

Is it possible to get under the standoffs? (I don’t know if I’m using the right words for it) I had one of the pins on my D key break and the key came loose. The other pin was still stuck in the standoff. I tried getting it out but that resulted in the pin falling down underneath the brown standoff making the key hard to push down and not working properly. Help much appreciated.

@@MTN24J sadly not. As far as i know the only way is to solder off the entire switch and ither replace it or open it and get the part out. havent got around to try that yet cus i have no experience soldering. how did it happen on ypur keyboard, if you dont mind me asking?
@MTN24J
@MTN24J Месяц назад
@gunnersen1337 I've figured it out from another video comment, on the end of the cap there's a small hole, I put a very small screwdriver in there and pushed it up, the switch come away from the board and I've been able to get the plastic out. My left shift key had one of the legs snap (unsure how..) and it fell inside..

@dnleek4985
@dnleek4985 3 года назад
The GL low profile switches that Logitech used for the g915 are externally the same as Kailh Choc v1 switches (for example, the linears switches on the g915 are equivalent to Kailh choc reds). You can buy such switches from aliexpress or mechanical keyboard online stores. However, Logitech changed the stem shape on their GL low profile switches so the g915 keycaps will not fit on a Kailh Choc without modification. Based on what I've seen, it should be possible to say, dremel out the hole in a Kailh choc's stem to fit your existing g915 keycap, but I can't guarantee it will work since I haven't heard of anyone doing this. (I have seen a thread where someone mentioned sanding down the legs on the keycap to make the keycap fit a Kailh choc, so that might work better.) Also, based on the official specs, the official Logitech switches have 0.3mm less travel than Kailh chocs (2.7mm vs 3mm), so even if you worked out the keycap issue, it might feel just a little different and deeper when you press your 6 key vs the neighboring keys.

@@dnleek4985 Thank you dude, very useful info.. U never know if this is the first and the last one, like happened with my Corsair K63 wireless - LEDs just burned one by one in a short time of the the end of the warranty. G195 low profile ergonomically much better but Logi has lots of quality issues, like most of their G products..so grinding buttons one after each not a big joy. If you go on eBay people sell G915 for parts keys for that expensive that if you put them together you can buy ten g915s ! :) may be I should do so and buy a new one for me, and keep couple switches for myself ))))

@@dnleek4985 would be really interessting to get proper replacement for those switches; after all it's not a 40€ keyboard...a friend of mine spilled gin tonic on his g915 and now two of the keys are not working reliably..
@dnleek4985
@dnleek4985 2 года назад
@@roqnroll yes, unfortunately I have yet to find any places where you can buy these switches in bulk. I've found a few on ebay that are from donor keyboard but they're like $5 per switch. Might be a "good enough" option if you only need one or two. That said, if you're going to open up the keyboard anyways, it might be worth trying to desolder the malfunctioning switches, then open them up and give them a good clean with some alcohol.

Really? Who told you that? I literally just pull from the top sort of downward and up at a 45 degree angle… they pop off like nothing and the mechanism looks delicate… sure. But it’s never broken on me and I’m not known to be gentle. Makes it so easy to clean being able to remove the caps so easily with no tool.

@TonyisToking
@TonyisToking 2 года назад
@@SafwanAlavi Ahh ok. I get the precaution, it is a pricey item. I wonder if it has to do with different models or maybe build quality on specific production runs. Logitech is known for varying/lowering their build quality over the years. Leading to defective products. I’d recommend maybe buying a spare set of caps and trying it with your fingers then. Just to make sure you aren’t risking having a broken keyboard. Or maybe just test it on a key that you don’t use…
