Thanks for watching! I've converted to the silent side completely now, so yea it's good they still have the 3 for people who want a more tactile experience.
Good review. You did a great sound test, but you forgot to mention that the 3S mouse clicks also feel softer and mushier than the louder clicker 3!!! The soft mushy clicks on the 3S was the deal-breaker for me. Hopefully MX Master 4 adds back more crisp clicky mouse buttons like the 3 grrrr
Hey C J, you're right, I should have placed more emphasis on the soft click feeling. I was so used to the Logitech Lift, which has the same soft click and noise that I forgot how jarring the change could be to users of the traditional MX line. I actually grew to love the soft click feeling because I still work just as far, but I can understand those who want that more tactile feel and confirmation. I think they will have to add it back to the MX4 because the soft click on the MX3S had mixed reception.
yea i noticed that too while testing them at the store. I think i will go with the 3 for that exact reason. The crisp clicks are the only difference that matter to me, the other 2 things i wouldnt care anyway so its the same mouse literally.
@@DemCrumblies Yeh I just tested it and my brain hates it.. I was never annoyed by the sound... but I guess it'll have to get used to like when I got polarized lenses.
I sold my MX M3 to buy the 3S, I prefer the quieter clicks & the subtle thud (if you can call it that), but Logitech could've done more to tempt MX M3 users over, like moving the device switch button to the top, or if that wasn't possible right now, I don't see why device switching couldn't be added to the gesture button options. But you're right about the magspeed scroll, it would be hard to go back to normal scrolling. Cheers.
Hey Kam, that is such an excellent point about moving the device switch button somewhere on the top. In addition to letting gestures perform the same function, they could have allowed the shift wheel button to be remapped to device switch too.
Was it worth it now that you used it a couple of months? I just yesterday bought the MX M3 Mac because my wireless Razer mouse was giving huge issues with the scroll wheel (1 click = 500% zoom usually) Anyway, I am now considering if I should return the MX 3 Mac and get the new 3S - I did get the M3 for 990 SEK (100 dollars/100 euros roughly) vs 1290 SEK (130 dollar/euros) for the new version, I didn't even know the 3S existed because I rushed to the closest store right before they closed since I am working in illustrator on a timeline - but there's a 50 day return policy so I would have no problem paying 30 dollars more if the software is actually better / if its easier to customize buttons etc, and the quieter clicks are something considered worth changing it out!
@@najZSwe yeah, for me it was definitely worth the upgrade, I mostly use with my android tablet & Windows, it's very precise on both & I've always preferred the silent clicks.
Definitely interested in the 3S for the silent clicks. After hearing that vertical lift one I might go ergonomic, love how silent it was. If only the new mechanical keyboard was as quiet
I'm actually using the Vertical Lift for the majority of my daily use since I spend at least 8 hours on the computer, and I use the 3S on my second computer. I did a review about the Lift too, but I forgot to mention that you can get horizontal scrolling on it by using the back or forward side buttons to temporarily modify the vertical scroll wheel to a horizontal scroll wheel. Made a quick video about it if you're seriously considering the Lift.
@@DemCrumblies why are you using two different mice for your two computers? Both mice allow easily switching devices and have Logitech Flow, don't they?
@@sebastianjost Hey Sebastian, I actually have three mice. I use the Logitech Lift Vertical on my main computer for ergonomics, and I use the MX 3S on my second computer. The MX3 is just for backup now since I bought the MX 3S. While they do have fast switching and I have some paired between computers for transferring files with Logitech Flow, I still keep more than one for review purposes and to answer questions from viewers.
Just the review I was looking for, thank you! Ordered the MX 3s through the link in your description 👊 Looking forward to the horizontal scrolling while editing in davinci resolve. That alone is going to be a huge time saver.
Thank you very much for watching my video and using my link Chris! Yep, being able to scroll through the timeline is a huge benefit. Which color did you get btw?
This is exactly the review I was looking for. I purchased the 3 only one day before the 3s came out and I was wondering if I should return it. I don't really like the quieter click, and I don't have the need for it to be quiet so I think I will stick with the 3.
Thanks for the comparison, I love my MX Master 3 but probably won't be rushing out to upgrade any time soon. I honestly have headphones on most of the time anyway so even though the click reduction would be good for an office environment, it really doesn't apply to me too much at home.
I've been using the mx revolution for years. It's an amazing mouse but it's old now haha. I'm thinking if picking up the S. I'll miss the docking station, but the usb-c it's a solid upgrade. Thanks for the review!
Sounds like you got a lot of good use from your MX Revolution. Since I always have USB Type C cables around, I prefer charging that way instead of using the docking station like with older Logitech products because it frees up desk space too. Which color would you get if you get the 3S?
I wanted an MX Mouse and got the new 3S as it was just out and while I can't speak for the older models the 3S is absolutely fantastic. Wonderful bit of kit.
How bad is the soft mushy click? I want to buy it but for the money, I cant make a mistake, if I play a game now and then with it, will it be a problem?
Hey Jan, I'm not sure if you are asking me or C J, but I really don't think the soft click is a problem. You may "feel" like it is not tactile, but the response time is exactly the same as on the MX 3 mouse. If you plan on gaming, it can work, but a gaming mouse is better for games that require fast, twitch-like reactions like FPS shooters.
@@DemCrumblies Yeah absolutely, Im far from a gamer. I play WarThunder from time to time, it worked fine for me with MX2. I am sure then it will be odd at first. Tell me please then can you have accidental clicks and how much less pressure you have to put on it to click, I feel like that will give me a picture of a filling to some extent. Thank you and a pretty nice video btw yeah.
@@janloncaric3621 Hey Jan, I clicked the button on both mice and it feels like I have to use slightly less pressure on the MX 3S, but it isn't a very noticeable difference. I haven't had any accidental misclicks or double clicks due to the lower actuation force or pressure required for the MX 3S. I think most people feel that it is very soft because it doesn't make that click sound. You definitely feel the click register and it is still tactile with the MX 3S.
You'll love the 3S Tracy! I actually use both the 3S and the Lift Verical, which also has the quiet clicks. It's hard to consider going back to a noisy mouse again now.
@@DemCrumblies I also happy to finally have horizontal scrolling when editing. I’ve always been a $20 mouse person. So your review helped me feel like a made the right decision. 👍🏼
Was looking for a quieter mouse for the studio apartment my wife and I share and one minute in I already have the answer with that click test. Thanks for making it perfectly clear. 👍
Glad it was helpful Kribby! I use the 3S and the Logitech Vertical Lift mouse, which also has the same quiet clicks, but it better if spend tons of hours every day on the computer.
Great review. My wife has been a long user of mice like the MX Master 2s she never wanted to upgrade (I use a MX Master 3) since it can work on almost any surface. She wasn't a heavy laptop user, I had got her a chromebook from Acer and she eventually told me she hated it so I gifted her my Pixelbook i7 with 512GB NVMe SSD and 16GB RAM with a crazy near 4K touchscreen and totally silent. I then did some engineering and got it to run windows 10 with all features. Then I left my MX3 as her mouse. She immediately wanted one. Lol. So she has the MX3s now in Pale Grey which matches the Pixelbook. She likes the quiet buttons, I like more tactile. 4000 dpi works fine for me. Love these mice use USB C charging.
Hey @alk3myst (cool name btw)! Great to hear that she loves the MX3S, I've gotten so used to silent clicks now that I find it strange when a mouse has a loud audible click now. Some people hate the quiet click because they feel like there isn't enough tactile feedback without it also, but I love it! Yea the USB type C charging is handy too. Maybe later we might even get wireless charging on a compatible Qi enabled mouse pad. Waiting to see what they do with the MX4 next. Btw, just a heads up that the Pale Grey can get discolored quickly. I've been wiping mine down with a damp cloth every couple of weeks to avoid it. Thanks for watching 🙂
To be honest, the biggest reason I got the 3S over the cheaper 3 is the white (pale grey) color way. I’ve always hated how there was no white option to match my setup before, and finally I can have USB-C vs the micro-usb on my 2S
When I bought my MX 3, I don't remember seeing the option for pale gray or I would have got that, but I saw in some older videos that people had it too.
When you ASSUME… you make an ASS out of U and ME. It would make sense to think this… if it weren’t for the already available but not silent MX Master 2S
You don't need to click the button to scroll without the tactile increments. That automatically changes when you scroll quickly, which is the best feature. The only problem is that when you do click the button and scroll slowly without the tactile feel, it still scrolls the screen incrementally rather than smoothly, so there is never smooth scrolling. I like the clicking.
Yea they have the smart shift feature in the Logi+ software to switch between the ratchet scrolling and smooth scrolling. I love having it on smooth scrolling all the time, so I turn off smart shift personally.
I love the mouse but hate the light grey color that I got. After only 1 month of use the light grey rubber is dirty and dingy and stained from the natural oils in my skin and nothing I used was able to get the staining out. I ended up buying a broken black MX 3 and putting the top shell from that onto the lower of the MX 3S. Now I don't have to worry about a nasty dirty looking mouse and it now imo looks cool with the black upper and silver lower part. Also regarding tracking on glass, it does work. I bought a glass mouse pad a few weeks ago and it works like a dream. The difference between my glass mouse pad and what you used is that my glass mouse pad has a texture etched into it, or rather casted? into it. Where the surface isn't completely smooth, but this is definitely the best mouse pad I have EVER used and it works with old Redragon mouse too.
Yea I really don't know why Logitech won't consider changing the rubberized type of material since lots of people have complaints with the discoloration issue. Mine is slightly discolored too, but I usually try to wipe it down with a damp cloth every month or so to keep it from getting too bad. Would love to see a photo of your hybrid mouse if you wanna share though!
There reason why I upgraded mine (Master 3) was: -Clicking noise - Bolt Technology, allows me to connect MX keys mini and the mouse with only one receiver Not sure if it's me but I notice the side scrolling wheel has more firmness to it, great mouse, there's not competition in this case
Hey JD, the side scrolling wheel definitely is a bit more firm on the MX 3S. At first I wasn't sure if it was because I didn't break it in yet, but maybe it is stiffer to avoid accidental brushes of the thumb? Yea having the ability to use the Logi Bolt is great, but I've been using Bluetooth for the longest while to free up USB slots on my laptop and it's been surprisingly stable. Enjoy your new mouse. I never used the MX Keys keyboard, but is that also quiet when typing?
@@DemCrumblies Don't get me wrong after a few days I like the stiffness of the side scrolling wheel, I'm a bit more precise now with it. Mx Keys and Mx Keys mini aren't the quiet keyboards it's quite that any mechanical for sure but what it's really fascinating is the travelling, I'm fast typer and I improve speed with this keyboard besides that controlling multiple system is easy with Flow technology the Keyboard follows the mouse so both devices switch at the same time
@@JD_Therapy Yea it's really a time saver being able to use Flow between my laptop and desktop for transferring files. Probably my favorite feature. Since I switch to the MX Mechanical, I also noticed that my typing speed a bit faster now too. Btw, what is battery life like on your MX Keys? The battery life on the MX Mechanical is not supposed to last more than 15 days if you keep the backlight on. With it off, it's supposed to last 10 months.
@@DemCrumblies Yes, it all comes down to the lightning feature, I barely use the keyboard backlit so it last me around 4 months occasionally backlit used. easy to transport, I take it with me and my MacBook Pro 14 all the time, so pretty good when it comes to battery life
@@JD_Therapy So far mine has been good because I only use the reactive light mode where it lights up the key when you press it. Btw since you mentioned you are on Mac, have you experienced any mouse delays or scrolling delays? Others in the comments have mentioned this issue, but I haven't experienced it with the 3 or 3S.
@@DemCrumblies A cheap one from a company called Omoton that i got from amazon in 2020, it started to get courser shake when not in my hand it is very annoying.
@乇ᗪㄩ乃 Oh this will be a huge step up then. Just be sure to download the Logitech software to get full functionality out of your new mouse. Enjoy, and thank you for watching my video 😀
Currently writing this comment with a MX Master 3s. I've already got my return order placed on amazon for this piece of junk and ordered a Razer Pro Click Humanscale instead. No one told me that the MX Master 3s would somehow be a 125hz mouse in the 2020s despite being almost $100. What a joke. I ordered it thinking there's no way it's not a 1000hz mouse like is standard these days - but it's not.
Thanks for putting the Razer Pro Click Humanscale on my radar. Never seen it before, but it looks beautiful. If I ever have issues with my MX series, I know what to try next.
Great review! I currently use G305 but my GF is annoyed by clicking noise so I think this is a perfect solution.Review is just what I wanted to know, thanks!
Thanks Galicius! If you're going to be using this for any gaming, Logitech recommends using the Logi USB Bolt instead of Bluetooth for best performance.
Or you can just swap the switches to kailh silent red instead of buying a new mouse, there are places selling the switch with PCB, so you don't need to solder anything
I bought the white one and ended up returning it because it stains way too easy and does not rinse off at all. I tried this with two different white 3s mice and they both got stained after about a week of use. I just bought the black one instead. I even tried wearing thumb gloves and it still stained!
Nah you did the right thing spending 50 more on the ''improved'' one would make you an idiot sandwich. Now you got yourself a good deal and ergonomic mouse while having the time to wait for the 4 and see if the new design big improvements are worth upgrading.
I just invested in a 14" MacBook and thought the 3S was a great improvement over the MacMouse. Thanks for the review. My unit did not come with a bolt receiver which was fine.
Hey Milch, congrats on the new 14" MacBook. I wonder why yours didn't come with the bolt receiver. If it's something you may want in the future, maybe you can email Logitech support about mailing one out to you just in case. I use the MX 3S via Bluetooth also. Btw, now that you've experienced the quiet clicking, does it feel less tactile than a traditional mouse? I've really grown to love the quiet click.
Digging it. The only gripe ive had is the click area wears into a smooth shiny area making it look older and more worn than it really is. Wish they would make that out of something else. Well done review.
Yep, you're right! You can probably see it on my MX Master 3 in the video. The left click button is super smooth and worn out now. It's a bit embarrassing for me when people see that area, but yea, until they improve it, we're stuck. I guess we put a lot of hours and work into our mice.
I have both and will be returning the 3S hate the silent click seems cheap almost like because of parts shortages they just used switches from their cheaper mice. Also, the middle scroll button clicks when you push it in, so there is a disconnect in that, that will still click. I also have the 2S and actually prefer the shape of that the side scroll wheel is lower and the middle wheel is more clicky/ratchety when you set it to that mode, but still totally smooth when off.
Yea I understand the silent clicks aren't for everyone, but I've actually grown to like it on a mouse, especially when I'm working late at night. I never owned the 2S, but I can see that the side scroll wheel does look a little sleeker in they way it's integrated.
I wonder if they'll add a new color to the 3S, or just focus on an MX 4 next. Since the 3S is just a slight refresh of the MX 3, I think they are a bit overdue for an MX 4.
The problem with the 3S version is that it is absolutely necessary to use the Logi Option+ software otherwise it does not work. With the MX3 version, it was possible to use it without any compatibility problem between several devices (TV, Android, computers, etc.)
Yea, others have pointed out that they cannot use this mouse in some work environments where installation of certain software like Logi Option+ is prohibited on company computers.
Definitely going to upgrade. The practically silent clicking is going to make my wife happy. My computer is about 3 feet from our bed so the loud clicking of my MX Master 3 disturbs her a little when she’s trying to sleep at night. A whopping $30 more, though, but…..I’m gonna get it.
Yea, it'll definitely make a difference if you're that close. Even for me, I just prefer the silent clicks now when I'm working alone. Thanks for watching 🙂
One reason I can see to get the new mouse is it supports Logi Bolt. That seems to be needed to do some of the multiple computer support feature on the new MX Mechanical Wireless Keyboard and other new Logi products.
Yea it definitely helps and Logitech said it offers the best latency. However, I've been using the MX Mechanical, Logitech Vertical Lift and MX 3, and now MX 3S all on Bluetooth only, and it still allows me to switch between devices effortlessly.
that free scroll thing is probably the best thing i ever used, i got a g502 for my birthday which has a free scroll and its amazing lol. the 3s is gonna be on sale soon where i work and im definietly buying it
Your review convinced me to buy this mouse. I got it mostly for its customizability via Logi Options, but I should have known better -- it's Logitech software. Attempted on Mac. Returning it.
Hey Pepperfingers, sorry to hear that. I didn't know that the software experience on Mac would be that dismal. I know they just released the Logitech Lift Vertical mouse for Mac, so I thought they would have a polished software experience to match already. Hopefully they improve the software in future updates.
I just bought one and have been using it for three days now - no experience on the older mouse. The new one is really good, and the click is so quiet I can barely hear it. I hate a loud clicking mouse.
Another difference is the change to the bolt usb dongle which requires software to drive it. Fine on personal computers, but on office computers, this often isn't possible.
Pretty sure the DPI are for more precision, it has nothing to do with how well it works on different surfaces; that would depend on the sensor technology per se, not it's DPIs.
That makes sense, thanks for pointing it out. On the MX Master 3S product page it says tracks on any surface, so I thought the sensor was upgraded for that purpose too.
A good review, but somehow you've missed the most amazing, important features of the scrolling wheel: 1) That it _automatically_ unlocks and spins freely if you jerk it quickly enough -- no need to even press the unlock button; 2) That it's a solid piece of metal with huge inertia, so it spins for a very long time (seconds on end), and, in addition, the cold, finely machined metal just feels amazing compared to the regular rubberized plastic.
Hey Sergey, thanks! I actually turn off Smart Shift because I like to have it on free spin all the time, but you're right, I should have mentioned that feature for people who are not aware of it. Once you get spoiled with how smooth and fluid the scroll wheel is, it's really hard to consider other mice for sure.
@@AnanananChin You're correct, there is no change on the magspeed wheel. However, the horizontal side scroll wheel feels a little stiffer on the MX 3S. Maybe it will loosen up over time though?
@DemCrumblies honestly, just entry level Logi mice - Pebble, Pop, M330 and now to MX Master 3s. And buying the magic trackpad at the same time just because I'm using elevated laptop stand and hate using mouse with the Macbook lol
@@Wateverwa Oh got it. I switched from the MX3S and "downgraded" to the Logitech Lift mouse for my daily use mouse and I find it soooo much more comfortable and ergonomic to use, but I definitely miss the super fast scroll wheel from the MX3S and the Lift doesn't feel as premium either, so enjoy the super fast scrolling.
I'll pass on the upgrade. No problems with "3" moving around on my desktop and I barely hear the clicking. Plus I don't even use the scroller and 2 buttons on the left. Now, your review had piqued my interest in those and I'll check them out. I'll wait for a more substantial difference - maybe the "4." Thanks for a great review!
Hey Rod, I totally agree. The upgrade to the 3S is not worth it if you already own the 3. It's like a slight refresh with a new color, quieter clicks and better tracking sensor, but like you said, the sensor on the 3 served everyone fine all these years already. I hope the MX 4 will be a worthwhile upgrade.
got my mx master 3 a year and a half or so ago, and the rubber is starting to show its age. been thinking of getting a replacement mouse and the 3s looks like it has enough upgrades to be worth paying again.
@@DemCrumblies appreciate the reply! That's unfortunate, was really hoping they changed the rubber. There have been so many complaints about the rubber used on the 3 sad to see it back on the 3s.
@@THZX-qk9fc Yea, it looks like the 3S is just a small refresh really. Hopefully, whenever the MX4 comes out, they listen to the community and do something about it.
On one of my MX Master 3 mice (late 2019 purchase) the rubberized coating deteriorated and became too sticky to use - I tried various cleaning methods to no avail. I switched to a newer (backup) MX Master 3 a few days ago which doesn't (yet?) have the dreaded sticky coating problem. There's a number of Reddit threads about the sticky coating issue. Outside of the sticky coating problem, the mouse covers a lot of bases well. The rapid metal scroll wheel is addictive as compared to other mouse designs.
@@CoachNation The rapid metal scroll wheel is the one thing I miss the most since I made the Lift Vertical mouse my main mouse. Every time I use my MX 3S on my second computer, I almost want to leave the Logitech Lift.
It is probably worth mentioning that the MX Master 3S uses the Logi Bolt USB Receiver, which is not compatible with the USB Unifying Receiver. Both receivers are using a USB 2 type (Type-A), which is disappearing from most computers nowadays, replaced by USB 3 (Type C). If you are using Bluetooth, it is indeed not important. But if you want to integrate it with other existing Logitech products connected with Unifying, it will not work. In some cases, Logitech has added "for Business" to the name of Bolt products, like the "MX Master 3 for Business". It gives the impression that they will name all Bolt products with "for Business". But it is not true, as illustrated with this "3S". And in their "Business" products line, they still have Unifying products... It seems that Logitech wants to continue selling both Unifying and Bolt, duplicating all their products. So if you do not want to keep 2 Logitech receivers on all your devices, you have to either stick with the previous Unifying, renew all your products n Bolt, or move completely to Bluetooth.
Good points Marie-Jean. Thank you for mentioning that one USB receiver will not be compatible for all Logitech products. Logitech said the Logi Bolt is best for low latency, but I don't know how the latency compares to the Unifying receiver. If it's better, then maybe they will try to switch over to Bolt only for future products?
@@DemCrumblies Thanks much.. The mouse is an investment. I really don't want to have a potential problem after a shirt time. I work in a pretty humid place too .. Thanks.
@@sdaservicetv Yea, the full price for a mouse with only two slight changes is not worth it. Hopefully with the MX Master 4, they improve the materials because other viewers have mentioned the same issue about the rubberized material wearing away and being stained.
Are you guys getting a consistent click sound effect all across the area of LMB/RMB? I know this might be the OCD talking, but my 3S gives off that deliciously quiet and enjoyably tactile click only like 8 out of 10 times on average. The other 2 out of 10 clicks typically come from the area closer to the middle scroll wheel (although not only) and sound, well, sharper and "clickier", more like a standard switch (although not as loud). Not a big deal, I guess it's a standard feature of a mechanical input device, but I can't help thinking that the perfectly consistent standard click of the good old 3 wouldn't annoy me as much.
Hey Tomasz, I haven't really noticed much of a difference in sound or feedback, but when I tested it out just now, I noticed that my finger usually lands on the same spot during clicks so maybe that's why I don't notice any variance. The right click sounds slightly different than the left click though if I pay attention (not louder), but the tactile feedback is the same. If you're noticing it 2 out of 10 times, either you're really attuned or maybe your mouse has a defect. Might be a good idea to go in store and try one of the demo or display models to see if the same issue is present, although, those demo models sometimes take a beating from tons of people trying them.
I'm torn between the two. On one hand the 3S has a better sensor but on the other hand I personally like the loud clicks of the 3. I just picked up an MX Mechanical Mini and the MX Master would compliment it perfectly, especially in that graphite color.
@@DemCrumblies I have a G502 right now, which is a great mouse but not wireless. Been eyeing the MX Master for a long time. I’m also wondering if the color would match my MX Mech Mini like the MX 3s in graphite would
Hey Alex, I can take a photo of my MX 3 and MX Mechanical so you can see how they look side by side. I can take it tomorrow when I have natural light and share the link in the comments. Is that ok?
@@DemCrumblies Looks pretty nice actually. I ended up getting the 3S in graphite today and love it! Got the mid grey desk mat to go with it all and it is probably the best productivity set up I’ve had so far.
3 months ago bought MX Master 3, rechargeable battery is already dead. Luckily, still have old MX Master. I was using it probably for more than 10 years and it is still alive. The size of it is match better. Master 3 is smaller for my hand.
Sorry to hear that. If it's only been 3 months, you can contact Logitech directly. I had to do that before with another model and they shipped me a replacement because it was under a year.
Coming from the original MX, I think you'll notice the upgrade. It is almost worth it for the quiet clicks for me to be honest because I've gotten so used to quiet clicks now.
Since I updated my mechanical keyboard with blue switches, because the brown ones where too boring and quiet, older one (master 3) is definitely for me.... I am using it right now, and planning buying another one for my office. I don't think that it's worth updating(for me personally), since it's an awesome mouse with some minor improvements. I am using it with unifying receiver with mx keys plus and I am not sure about compatibility between it and newer (bolt) receiver. Also I would like to mention that it's cheaper now because of new (3s) model and I think how it's great deal. Battery will last like 60-70 days (for real) but if you are using it for gaming it will last like 20-30 days, which is good because it takes like 2 minutes to charge it. Idk what to say Logitech is Swiss company, their products are of a good quality and In my opinion it's not expensive at all for that level of reliability. PS
Hey Djuro, yes, I agree that the 3S is not worth the upgrade if you already own the MX3 unless you really prefer quieter clicks and maybe the color. I'd definitely go with the MX3 since it's cheaper. I actually don't use the Bolt or Unifying receiver and just use Bluetooth instead. I used to have glitches with Bluetooth many years ago, but with newer Bluetooth versions, I think most of the issues are ironed out. The Bolt isn't compatible with the MX3 from what I remember seeing.
@@DemCrumblies Thank you for that information about compatibility. I use it with unifying and Bluetooth as well, It works without glitches with my new TP-Link adapter, but Bluetooth on my old macbook can't find it... I do a lot of design and 3d modeling (solid, siemens nx, fusion etc) and its great. I mean it's great tool and I don't think that newer version with 8k Dpi will give me anything useful.
@@djuroradulovic1371 Hey Djuro, it's weird it can't be found by the Macbook since most BT versions should be backwards compatible, but maybe that is why Logitech also sells some hardware that is for Mac only. Yea I never missed 8K DPI before, so it definitely isn't needed for me either.
@@DemCrumblies Well it's actually an older version of macbook pro (mid 2010) but it's still ok and I've been using it on windows 8.1 for my workshop (icloud removal lol). Actually that macbook is not compatible with many of new devices including my gaming bluetooth keyboard, so I'm assuming that it has some kind of a vintage BT adapter in it.
@@djuroradulovic1371 Wow, was it hard to load Windows on it? Is it like dual boot, or just Windows now? Yea maybe older BT versions have some kind of cutoff in terms of backwards compatibility. Must be pretty good build quality if it has lasted that long though.
No mention of the elephant in the room. The horrific scrolling delay of the original 3. YT is full of vids on this issue. It was the deal breaker for so many people, especially creatives/CAD users. So has the 3S solved the scrolling delay issue?
Hmm, I don't recall experiencing this issue even with the MX 3 because I used it since Dec 2019 without issue. I'm on WIndows, I use it with BT and I ensure that in Device Manager, BT is set to never turn off to save power. I researched the issue to see what you were referring to, and I can see that yes, some users report this issue, but a decent amount of them are using a MAC. Were you experiencing this issue on MAC or WIndows? Some users also mentioned turning off Smooth Scrolling and Smart Scrolling in the Logitech software options, and I had those options already turned off. Not sure if they are relevant settings? I've also had a handful of firmware updates for the mouse through the Logitech software. To answer your question though, I don't experience any scrolling delay on the MX 3S either.
@@DemCrumblies Win. USB receiver. Its really wide spreaded issue and I cant understand how it is possible that no review is mentioning it. There was plenty of discussions on redit and also youtube videos.
@@lubomirnedvidek9857 I really haven't noticed it and I'm on Windows on a BT connection, which is supposed to have more latency than the USB receiver. I think the mouse shuts off power when it isn't used for a while to save battery because on my second computer where I use the MX3, I just watch Twitch or YT in background and if I don't touch the mouse for a half hour or more, it has to wake up, but once it does, it's perfectly fine. If I understand correctly though, you're experiencing a scrolling delay on and off even when the mouse is fully active during regular use. Also, do you have Smooth Scrolling and Smart Shift on or off? I have both off on my end.
I love the new white color, I have a mid gray MX Master and it has some stains now, even after cleaning with alcohol. I'm worried the same would happen to this one.
@@DemCrumblies makes sense, I saw a video where they mentioned the material is different but I don't know if it will make a big difference. Thinking of just keeping my mx master 3 for now. The silenced switches are interesting but not a huge difference. I wish they had made it lighter.
@@nefitru I didn't confirm the material by asking Logitech, but if I run my finger across both the MX 3 and the MX 3S, they feel exactly the same to me. Also, the weight is still exactly the same at 141 grams, so I think it's the same. Yea, unless you care about quieter clicks or the color, it is a waste of money to upgrade from the MX 3.
When I use the 3S, the click feels softer as well as being quiet. I still get the feeling of the clicks being registered, but for those who want a really tactile feel, maybe it will be seen as a downside.
I agree. The strange thing is that when I check Logitech's official website, I only see the MX 3 for Mac and MX 3 Business Mouse. I don't see a regular MX 3 product page, so I'm thinking the 3S will replace it and they'll stop making it? At all the other retailers with existing MX 3 stock, I guess they're still trying to sell it for the same price unless Logitech offers them some kind of rebate.
Yes, I only use Bluetooth to keep USB ports free on my laptop. I hate that newer laptops ship with so few ports unless you buy a high-end gaming type laptop.
I have the 3S and the mouse is amazing but I don't like the silent clicks. That snappy response when you click helps inform you when you've hit the button. But I'll get used to it I guess...
Hey Vikrant, yes this mouse is a bit on the heavier side. It is the same weight as the previous MX Master 3, so I guess this is your first MX 3 mouse. If you try to use the mouse on your desk without a mousepad, how do you find it moving? I usually use mine on the desk directly. Another option if you want a quiet and light mouse is to get the Logitech Lift Vertical Mouse: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v360WKMQhiA.html
I did a review on the MX Mechanical recently, it's pretty good, been using it for work mostly. I tried it using the Logi Bolt USB receiver and I did ok with some light gaming. I asked Logitech about latency times, but I didn't get answer back yet. However, another commenter said they got an answer back saying that the Logi Bolt USB receiver is between 4 to 7 ms latency, so if the MX Mechanical and MX 3S are used, hopefully that number is accurate.
the only thing I wish they would have done is put a 3rd button on the side of the mouse to cycle through different devices, just like the M720 Triathlon.
Yea, having a quick switch button anywhere except the bottom would be so efficient. Even the option to remap the scroll wheel mode button to switch input devices would be nice.
So far it isn't stained, but I can't say that will be the case over time. On my MX 3, the left click button is smooth now due to wear and prolonged use, so I think the same with happen with the pale grey too because the material feels exactly the same.
@@DemCrumblies Good thing I went with the Black for the 3S. I sooooooo wanted to buy the Pale Gray for work but based on my 1 YO MX 3 I had my doubts big time. Have you manged to find a way to clean the the rubber? Been thinking about using a microfiber towel, dawn, and wiping it down. Doubt that will make it look like new again but Black is the best color to get longterm it seems
@@henri6595 Yea good call on the black, because it's likely just a matter of time until it stains. I've only ever tried to clean my older MX 3 with warm water and a microfiber towel, but no luck. I read that the smoothing that I have on my left mouse button is due to oils from my fingers reacting to the plastic, so that means I won't be able to clean it. However, I haven't noticed any stains anywhere else on my MX 3. Dawn might be a good bet because it's pretty powerful. I never tried with soap because I didn't know if it would react with the material. If you decide to go through with it, I'd love to hear how it went.
I love my MX 2S, but the thing has just died. The problem seems to be the gesture button fails when the rubber cover over it deforms as it hardens and ages, causing the button to be partially pressed all the time. Really not happy about that, and seriously wonder how long the 3 and 3s mice will last since they use a similar design and materials.
I've had the original MX 3 since late 2019 and it doesn't have any issues with the buttons. The left click button is a bit shiny because of how many clicks I've put into it. I use it for at least 10 hours a day without issue. I do clean the exterior of it with a damp cloth about once a month because I do notice that the exterior picks up a lot of dust and oils from my hand. In terms of mechanical function, no issues though.
@@DemCrumblies mine would be a bit older, and also subjected to a reasonable amount of daylight. It was working fine until suddenly it wasn't. I think manufacturers have a lack of forethought around longevity - I have an older Wacom Intuos pen that is almost unusable because the rubber grip has become so sticky (and you cannot buy replacements).
The gesture button in 2s does have that problem, i opened up the mouse from bottom, cut the electrical wire connected to gesture button on inside, and removed it. It started working again. I did change to Mx Master 3 but the left click now died after 2 years. I am kinda pissed at only 1 year warranty on such expensive mouse.
@@sidundead13 Yea for such an expensive mouse, you'd expect more than 2 years of use. I once asked Logitech if they had a way to keep track of mouse clicks, and they said no. I wish they could track that so we can compare failure based on click volume. Cameras keep track of shutter counts, so I don't know why they won't implement such a simple tracking metric.
I actually prefer silent clicks now, might be worth a go to see if you can get accustomed to it. If not, another option would be to buy one used that isn't in too bad a condition maybe.
@@washthisgardenwithblood3585 Yea give it a go. Btw, since i reviewed this, I actually bought a Logitech Lift mouse (also with quiet clicks) that I use wayyy more since it's more ergonomic. I prefer it way more and I adjusted to it within a week of getting it.
If you have the non S, no upgrading is optional, but it is a stellar mouse and if your old mx master is aging, dying and it's time to change, do not think, get it.
Honestly I changed it because i want a quieter click, but return it, because left button make to much noise in comparison with right button. I normally use a Microsoft presenter mouse that work great and click sound are ok but no Bluetooth or recharge battery
Hmm that's weird, could it be defective? When I did the sound test in my video, does yours sound the same in terms of the noise level between the right and left click buttons?
not so different in my opinion, only the clicky sound matter, I prefer the clicky sound in MX 3, cause I feel more control with the mouse's response than the silent mode of MX 3s. 4000 VS 8000 not really a matter , cause 4000 is more than enough for me.
Hey Thong, yea you're right, the 8000 DPI upgrade from 4000 is probably not worth it for most people. I've got to appreciate quiet clicks now, so now I actually like it.
This is just my opinion based on my preferences.. I like MX master 3 better because the clicky sound. My friend has the 3s, and I try it before I bought my Mx Master 3.. and I feel uncomfort with the "Silent" click, the click feeling just like when you using a broken button mouse.. 😅
Hey Hendro, yep, others have agreed with your stance on the silent click too. I got used to the soft click pretty quickly and I've come to prefer it over the louder or shaper clicks now. Let's see what they do with the MX4. It would be great if they offered an MX4 and MX4S for users to choose from.
@demcrubliestech - I already have the mx keys keyboard. With the Logi receiver, can I connect both the mx keys and master 3s and use the switcher on the keyboard to switch both devices (between computers) at the same time?
Hey Michelle, I checked with Logitech, and they said they do not support having both devices switch at the same time unfortunately, but that is a great question. Hopefully, they work on that later.
Yea that's a pretty big upgrade. The software is also pretty full featured. I just wish it was easier to keep the mouse clean, but the grippy material makes cleaning harder. Which color did you get btw?
@@DemCrumblies Graphite as it fits better to my black K800 and hides the dead skin deposits a bit better. Yes the program specific settings come in handy too. This is one of those products you didn't really need but make it hard to go back once you tried it. Many thanks for the video and have a great day Sir.
my 3s is arriving tomorrow, so if I connect to my MacBook and my hp laptop will there be separate custom options on each system within the Logitech options ? i.e start button as the gesture for windows ?
Hey Pete, that's great to hear! Yes, you will be able to set custom options on both systems. I have mine setup to use between two computers with different button mappings.
No onboard memory is a deal breaker for me. Many companies restrict 3rd party softwares on work computers and having stuck with the default setting is terrible. It’s frustrating because Logitech has put onboard memory on their gaming mices for 10 years.
Dammit! I don't like the new click but I could always get the benefit from better tracking. Interesting that you're having problems on black glass. I don't have that problem on my MX 2S. I think the laser is the same so I don't think that should be a decider for me. I think it's going to be a case of how big is the difference in price, over any particular feature for me.
Yea I tried to redo the tracking test with the DPI set to 8K in the Logi Options+ software, but the mouse cursor was jumping sporadically around the screen. I'm thinking it's because the glass had a black backdrop so the signal was bouncing back? Maybe on a glass table with a lot of empty space under the glass, it wouldn't be an issue. Are you able to order it directly from Logitech? Sometimes they email out coupons with discounts, or offer discounts if your current mouse is out of warranty.
@@mkobzday You're probably right. I did try a second test using the same glass and a mirror after setting the DPI to 8K, but same issue. I think the glass can't be too reflective or the lase light bounces maybe? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zz-7bgR3HhA.html
They need to make this mouse with as many buttons as the G502, I'd consider the MX Master 3S but I don't want to give up my scroll wheel left and right clicks
Haven't used the G502 before, but that looks like a serious mouse. I'm thinking maybe they can't ensure the hyper fast almost frictionless scrolling of the mag speed wheel if they implemented scroll wheel left and right clicks so it probably will not come to the MX line.
Hey friend, I must ask you something about that black color. I have gray version and it seems brand new after like 6 months of an everyday usage, but when I look at black version on youtube, that part where the right and left buttons are looks like it has been worn out (from clicking obviously). So can you tell me more about that patches, is that just dirty (oily) and can be wiped away, or is it actual change in the plastic at that spot? PS Bro
Hey Djuro, on my MX3, you can probably see the worn out patch as well if you look carefully. Unfortunately, it cannot be wiped away or cleaned away because I try to clean my mice every 1 or 2 months, but those spots still remain. My fingers are oily, so over time I think it has worn away the plastic coating permanently. I don't feel a change when I put my finger there though, so it doesn't affect performance. It just doesn't look nice.
@@DemCrumblies Yea, that's exactly what I've assumed, but on gray color it literally can't be seen. However this color is really sensitive and I need to clean it quite often. Thank you for your answer, I like your videography very much.
@@djuroradulovic1371 That's great if it doesn't show through as much on the gray. I've been switching between the MX3S on my editing computer and the Logitech Lift on my work laptop, so I haven't noticed any color changes on the MX3S yet since I only use it a couple times a week. But yea, cleaning regularly is key to keeping these mice looking great. Thanks for the compliment 🙂
Thank you for your concise and informative review. I was watching another youtube video discussing this mouse and it was filled with so much unnecessary "cute" drivel I had to stop.
I know exactly what you're talking about. If I ever do that in my videos, feel free to call me out so I can stay grounded 😉Thank you for watching my video Ita!
is the side buttons quiet too? on the 650L the side button was not noise treated so you have the main left and right click thats quiet but not on the side....
The side buttons are quiet like they were on the older Master 3. Since the side buttons were quiet already, it doesn't sound any different to me when I use them. I hope that is helpful.
