Love this ultra detailed user review. I have just bought the mouse. And have been experiencing the lag. Hinestky the best mouse I’ve ever used so fas is their cheapest lightspeed mouse, the G305. That spoiled me on reliability and feel. I saw a solution where you use a usb extension and make the receiver visible in line of sight to the mouse. So far the stutters have disappeared, hopefully it lasts.

this video should have (if you have a Mac) added to the title. I'm using an MX Master 3 on a PC and its been superb. Battery is brilliant, it will track on everything from glass to carpet and the magnetic scroll wheel is simply genius. But do agree that the thumb wheel is a bit high.

I have MX Master 3 for Mac. I used it on my old iMac and it was great. Now I have the MAc Studio and it's a nightmare. The biggest issue is that the scroll wheel often stops working. Sometimes every day or a few times per day. Sometimes it works for a whole week. Then suddenly it stops. Total pain. I would scroll to the bottom of the comments to see if anyone else has these problems, but of course the scroll wheel has stopped working....

So glad to see an honest opinion about it! I too was swayed by the numerous praise by RU-vidrs at the time, but I just never really got on with it. It felt slightly cumbersome to use, and I would get weird wrist aches. Ended up selling it on eBay, and getting a Magic Trackpad instead. Works smoothly, and I just can't do without the multi-touch gestures and speed in my everyday work.

The Bluetooth issues are also prevalent on the Intel Mac Mini. Apple has known about it since 2018 and done nothing. The root of the issue is that the BT transceiver is located very close to the USB ports. USB (especially high-speed / high-traffic usage) interferes with the admittedly weak BT. I have this issue on my 2018 Intel Mac Mini. The main help is to not use the USB ports on the Mac Mini, but to run a USB hub with nice shielded cables off of a Thunderbolt port. I still get occasional issues when doing large amounts of data access on USB attached storage devices. I'm currently using the Apple Magic Mouse (with 3rd party rubber bumpers to save my hands), but looking to move from it. I had an old Logitech Master from about 2011-2012 that I loved, but it has gone kaput. It had a tilting scroll wheel that I absolutely loved. Now they've gone to the thumb wheel which I suspect I will hate. I actually like the digitizer on the Magic Mouse for this. I don't know...I feel kind of stuck seeking my ideal mouse.

MX Master 3 user here, you're right about the options beta - it's broken. I'm using the traditional green logitech options on the Monterey beta (intel). Once I put the 2.4ghz receiver on a usb extension cable away from the back of the computer and other cables / interference it was grand. I have a friend using an m1 mac mini and I've him set up the same way, zero issues once 2.4 interference is ruled out.

With the USB receiver, the MX Master 3 worked flawlessly for me. I can't say the same for MX Master 3s, though. They've introduced this new "Logi Bolt" receiver, and the experience is lacking so far. I think there are no issues with tracking, but the Bolt software on MACOS is half-baked and doesn't allow changing the DPI.. Or anything, for that matter. "Logitech Options" is quite solid, though.

MX Master 3 with a M1 Mac Mini and no issues at all. I moved the receiver dongle away from the Mac using a USB extension cable and have no interference or jitter issues. Most issues I hear are when people use the receiver directly into a Mac USB port and I did see evidence of this myself before using a extension cable. Bluetooth connection was rotten so the unifying receiver is better.

Which would you recommend for Macbook air m1 ?magic mouse 2, Mx Master 3 for mac or regular Mx master3 ??
@salvationunknown4151
@salvationunknown4151 2 года назад
BUYER BEWARE - If you have an M1 Mac, DO NOT BUY this mouse (March 2022). I never comment on RU-vid, but just like the uploader I feel so strongly about the issues with the MX Master 3 on M1 Mac that I have to say something. I work in IT and believe me when I say this has been the most frustrating peripheral and software experience I've ever had. It's utterly infuriating that a mouse that is marketed specifically for a Mac, and that is so expensive, is so broken and unsupported. This isn't something that can be fixed on our end, it's something that Logitech must recognise and provide a fix for in both Firmware and Software (assuming it's not a hardware incompatibility). Logitech has not provided any meaningful support or fix in the last 15 months, I'll leave it up to you to decide if you think that's going to change. I've returned my mouse and would advise anyone considering purchasing it to look elsewhere until Logitech brings out a new model.

M1 Macbook Air, MX Master 3 user here. If you are a mac user unistall logitech software and get SteerMouse. I've had similar issues, most annoying was intermittent horizontal scrolling. Absolutely random on and off, 2 seconds here, 5 seconds there and because horizontal scroll was one of the main reasons I went for mx master 3, I started to look for the solution. Logitech support is a joke. Once I uninstalled all logitech software I realised that all the issues disapeared so it's not hardware incompatibility. Of course after uninstalling logitech software I couldn't customize buttons and scrolls the way I like, but then I've found SteerMouse. Way more ways to customize scrolls and buttons and no issues anymore.

However, recently I bought an M1 Mac mini, and the problems started. The mouse simply disconnects for no apparent reason when using BT. Do you notice when usingin M1 Mac, it takes a few seconds for the logitech mouse to "talk" to the logitech driver to adjust the cursor speed? I have set tracking suitable to my liking, but every time when login the Mac, it takes a few seconds to re-adjust to the right tracking speed. There are two setting for the track speed, one in the Mac OS setting and another in the logitech options app. Do you experience this and what can be the fixed? Connecting via the dongle seems reduce the time for the mouse to adjust the speed to where I set.

Just bought Master 3 some days ago and after dealing for a few days with the jitter issue driving me crazy, the Logi options software and even the -not that ergonomic- physics (and its weight, it is heavy af), I returned it today. Yeah, when it comes to normal working status of the mouse, you even have to feel it comfortable to work for hours and hours. So it kinda subjective depending on the scenario. Sadly, I'm one of those who saw a lot of reviews only talking about the magic features, and get hyped with all those good looking workstations out there on insta, lol. For me, a simpler G603, also from logi, works 10 times better.

I bought the MX Anywhere 3 and the MX Keys keyboard about a year and a half ago. I need quick switching between a Mac and two Windows PCs and this combo seemed to do a good job. I did have some issues with the mouse, but it seems they've gotten a lot worse recently. Could be related to other changes in my Mac configuration, but whatever the reason I'm no longer able to use the MX Anywhere mouse on the Mac at all -- the problems have gone from sporadic to constant -- Lightroom & Photoshop are impossible without proper mouse functionality. I had an old victsing mouse and connected it to the Mac, so I'm content to just stick with that for now. It's easy enough to just keep two mice on my desk, and fortunately I've had no issues with the keyboard -- one button on the keyboard selects the Mac or PCs.

Two cheap Tecknet MGQ424, one for my Macbook Air and another for my Surface Pro 6. I've had them for years and they work fine on wood. They take AAA cells and I just keep a couple of cells fully charged ready to swap in. That is more convenient than having to charge a mouse when it runs out. For my Dell deskside I use the wired mouse that came with it and a USB switch to switch everything to a Surface dock. I have a Logitech ball mouse but I never use it. I hate trackpads.

I’m using a Magic Mouse 1 (in macOS) and a Logitech Pebble (in Bootcamp). The Magic Mouse works absolutely fine for me, only issue is the 1st Gen will turn off if give it a bump because the batteries will get dislodged. The Pebble is there mainly because Windows is hostile to the Magic Mouse (and the Magic Trackpad), and I like lower mice. The Pebble being a quiet mouse also pleases me. However it is unreliable in MacOS when connected with Bluetooth, it’s more reliable when in Windows but sometimes it has mis-clicks, when using the dongle it’s all fine. I’ll probably get a Magic Mouse 2 because I’m tired with that battery dislodging thing. I’m okay with how it charges. MacOS will inform the user when the battery is low, and the remaining juice can easily last a day or even more, just remember to charge it at night and it’ll be fine.

Idk about mac OS, but I have the Master 2S and use it via the receiver with Windows. Best mouse I've ever had, never experienced any issue with it for the 2 years since I have it. Bought it because of the hype and I'm glad I did. My favourite feature is the multiple device use and how easy is to switch between them. Given all of this and the current trend of most mice being ambidextrous(which I absolutely hate and find extremely unergonomic), I don't think I'll be using anything else than the Master series or whatever they call it in the future.

I use the Mx master 3 with the dongle on windows laptop for work. It works flawlessly. When I plug that dongle on my MacBook Pro M1, connected to external display, it lags and jumps over the screen. Surprisingly it’s a bit better via Bluetooth. But even my hackintosh is more stable. I can’t live without that mouse - I have the silver version which I Love. But I agree with you, with such a big revenue income they should come with a solution. I read that some people had a better chance using an USB extender to connect the dongle, specially for the Mac mini. Maybe worth a try :)

I really prefer lightweight ambidextroux mice. I love the logi G203/305 mice as well as the G Pro X superlight, what I really F-hate is mice acceleration and in MacOS isn't any way of disabling acceleration without a third party app. Also I found that I prefer to use a trackball (M575) in MacOS. Almost forgot to mention that the newer models (Macbook Air) doesn't come with USB type A for the dongles so you're stuck with BT connection.

I hate to recommend a different Logitech product after this review, but the Logitech G502 HERO is absolutely phenomenal. I've never had any issues with it, it has plenty of extra buttons that are very easy to access. While it doesn't have a sideways scroll wheel, you can click the middle scroll wheel left and right for sideways scrolling. I've really only used this mouse for gaming and some 3D modeling on a PC so I can't say how well it holds up on a mac, but I've had two of these mice over time and I think they really are great.

Corsair mice for me have been the solution. The build quality is not as good, but you get a great sensor with all three options, wired, dongle, and Bluetooth. I wish more mice actually supported that. And I'd wouldn't even think of using a master if it didn't have that side scroll wheel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I have been in a love/hate relationship with the MX Master mice since version 1 also. I currently have the MX Master 2S and have been delaying replacing it. I have a Mac Mini M1 and share your frustrations with it's bluetooth issues. I finally seem to have resolved my issues with the stuttering by connecting only through the 2.4mhz dongle. I also believe the stuttering is caused by interference by nearby wireless signals, so have re-positioned everything until the issue went away. My dream mouse would be an MX Master version 1 with the Logitech Lightspeed connection. Hopefully someday it will happen.

@@StusReviewsUK The only issue i ever had with the Master series of mice was when the dongle thing was in the back of the PC. It stuttered a bit here and there etc. I got a usb extension cable and ran it with the dongle in the end so it was behind the desk but in line with where the mouse is. Never had that issue since. I've been living and getting by with my battery operated 2009 magic mouse. Totally get the cramp thing as the profile is too low and flat, I enjoy the smoothness when you swipe between windows and how it glides. My main issue with most (mice?) is that mine has to sit at arm's length away, to the right side of the desk because my midi keyboard is front and centre. That means that quite often my mouse and mat slip off the cliff edge because I'm focusing on the screen instead of my mouse positioning. Not really a fault of that kind of mouse, but with so many people using computers for productivity other than just office tasks these days, the traditional mouse can get in the way of hardware. I'm looking for other control solutions that don't involve needing to physically move the mouse around. I think the roller ball, or track pad styles might be my only options. I think the roller ball would be more ergonomic on the hand, but it's such an old and overly chunky design and I'm not sure that running my thumb constantly over a big ball is my thing

Thanks Stu, I hope you're well. Love the concept. I'm going to see if I can find some more info to see if it is easily configurable to go from hand gestures down to higher degree of precision. Jamiroquai's Matt Johnson was recently demo'ing something in development that is along similar lines, but it was designed to be more music production studio specific and was defo more of a hand gesture designed software. It all looks great. I'm just looking for something that doesn't involve sliding a mouse across an area that I don't have, that is precise enough to navigate Mac system folders and zero'ing in on small virtual knobs and sliders whilst being ergonomic. Thanks to you I have a few options to consider! TY. 👍

about 4 years ago I purchased a MX1 mouse - to go with my new Alienware laptop. It was horrible!! returned it back after 1 days use. I waited for the MX2 to come out and having no issues since. Also due to limited USB ports on laptops I wanted to use the BT connectivity. Last year I've switched to a MBP m1 max. The MX2 mouse is still good, connects quick via BT no lag or other issues, also really taking advantage of the device switching when jumping back to my Alienware from time to time. Only downside I have is the scroll wheel on the mouse got damaged I did a repair on it to keep me going, so I currently have no free scroll. Not too bad I can live with it, only when working late at night the scroll clicking noise seems really load. I think next upgrade for me will be the MX4 - if they do release one.

I have both mouses and here is my opinion (I use them on Macbook Pro i9 chip, mostly with unifying receiver, but sometimes with bluetooth): 1) MX master 3S came with a new unifying receiver, the new one, it was in the box. 2) 3S is not compatible with older receiver (and the same for Craft keyboards - if you have a combo 3S + Craft, you need to use 2 receivers, or just bluetooth). 3) The same for the software - Options+ is not compatible with either 2S or Craft keyboard (you need 2 versions of the software if you have a combo) 4) Thumb wheel on both mouses is something I never liked to use, it's not precise enough / clicky to be usable comfortably in my opinion (for example when scrolling timeline on Premiere Pro) 5) Ergonomics of 2 extra buttons close to the thumbwheel (usually Back and Next) are much better on 3S. On 2S they are so close together that are hard to press (especially the upper one is difficult to press) 6) Scroll wheel on both mouses is in a very similar position, I felt it natural to scroll on both mouses, great to use on both mouses 7) Side button (below the thumb) is easier to press on 2S. 3S has a smaller clickable area for this button under your thumb. But 2S had a problem with rubber around it (after couple of months it gets deformated and stuck because there is a plastic next to it, with not too much free space - if if rubber gets deformated with time, then you cannot freely press the button - seems to be fixed in 3S, but time will tell) 8) 2S has a problem with screws, they used a very thin plastic inside for screws, and it basically just crumbles. After a year of 2 of using, you start hearing noises of something in your mouse, you open it and you see small bits of plastic from around screws everywhere. It gets worse in time (possibly planned aging of the product - so you have to replace it) 9) I always had problems with Options software on MacOS. Usually it was not loading my custom buttons/presets configuration when starting the system. Doesn't seem to be an issue with new Options software. 10) I used 2S for 4 years of daily using and it was never broken (except broken screw plastics), always working. 11) Overall I'm happy after the upgrade, and I would not choose 2S again due to (in my opinion) improved ergonomics and software.

Glad someone talks about this issue. I bought the MX Master 3S for my MacBook M1 Pro and I was totally disappointed by the way it moves the cursor. If I try to make small circles with my trackpad it is totally smooth. With the MX Master, it is totally jittering. Find that very unpleasant and inconvenient to work, because hitting buttons on screen is impaired comparing with the trackpad. Even though I never experienced these jumps you had on yours. Sent my first back to Amazon and my new one is a bit better, but I think I'll try to use an external USB transmitter as you advised. Or I'll get my self an Apple mouse and try to use it plugged in ;)

All these points are valid. My only issue with this video is that you should make it more clear when it was posted as RU-vid says it was posted a year ago which not accurate. Today is November of 2023 and based off what I saw in this video I am guessing it is from 2021. Which by now all the connection issues have been addressed. Ergonomics are personal and I find the MX3 very comfortable, in fact more than my old MX1. Also, I have had mine for a while with no connection issues on an Apple M chipped Mac.

This time I bought a logitech triathlon mouse and keyboard set. Not particularly happy with the keyboard and had similar issues to those you mentioned with the unifying receiver. In the end they are both now running on bluetooth. Wasn't sure if it was something to do with it having to go theough a usb a to usb c hub or that Mac's (in my opinion) have an inferior operating system. The mouse is just ok, not really what you need for your role but for general office it is fine. I needed the ability to swap between machines which is why I bought the set. Mac/PC/Pi.

I use the wired Logitech MX 518 and G400 on the Mac Studio with Sonoma 14.1.1. Both mice actually worked well until Ventura. With the last Sonoma update, however, the problems started. When moving objects on the desktop, they keep getting stuck. They can be moved, but these delays are annoying. When I work with Adobe programs, there are display problems with the cursor and some tools. When work palettes are moved, they drag slowly as if on a rubber band. This was not the case before Sonoma. However, if I use the Magic Mouse, which is connected to the Mac via Bluetooth, I don't have these problems. Very strange. But I think the Magic Mouse is a real ergonomic disaster. It doesn't matter whether I use the two Logitech mice with the Logitech software or with the universal driver USB Overdrive - the problems occur in both cases. I already suspected that Apple might be deliberately preventing the use of third-party mice. But that is certainly wrong.

I use a MX Keys & MX Master 3 via unifying receiver on a Windows PC environment, both also have latest firmware installed and less than 1m from receiver. My MX Master 3 will often suffer from cursor lag, it seems to occur when the PC is under minor load, it makes playing RTS games a nightmare. I suspect when the PC is under load it reduces priority to requests on the USB bus so the mouse doesnt get updates sent to it as frequently (Educated guess). I also dislike the magwheel as it can often be too laggy to switch between ratchet and smooth scroll automatically leading to a inconsistent scrolling experience. My final pet hate is Logitech boasting about 'Logitech Flow / Options' this feature is useless to people that use these peripherals on a work laptop where third party software is not allowed to be installed on the machine by restrictions imposed by your IT dept. Glad to see a RU-vidr being honest and not just praising this mouse, it has flaws just like most other products. The best feature of these 2x items is their ability to switch between upto 3 machines and thats why ill keep them as it saves me needing to get a KVM or alternative.
