For all the complaints and delays, it was worth waiting for, for those who got to travel on that line. Patience was certainly a virtue in this case. I have to rely on youtube vids to keep up with the railway systems in the UK. So from 'down under' to the 75000 people who worked on the project all these last few years, well done.

I had to use the Elizabeth Line on the opening day from Abbey Wood, as my mum had an appointment to Moorfields Eye hospital. She normally uses Southeastern trains to London Bridge then bus. I persuaded her to use the Elizabeth line as this would cut at least 30 - 45 minutes from the journey time. Elizabeth Line is a game changer in many ways, especially if you live fairly local. One issue of note, even though more bus routes have been provided or changed to get to Abbey Wood, parking just beyond the CPZ of Bexley and Greenwich boroughs has become an issue. The last thing residents want is not being able to park by their home. I am in the Bexley half and know that parking permits are expensive. I have my own driveway as do most of my street, so parking is not an issue. Other roads are not so fortunate. When live 10 minutes walk to Abbey Wood great advantage. Great video.

Reading to Paddington is 26 minutes on GWR, or an hour on crossrail. In fact all they did is replace GWR stopping services (which had toilets) with the TFL ones (that don't). Crossrail should have ended at Paddington, then change for National Rail.

If I am being honest, the delay of "just" four years was actually pretty normal for a project this size, and totally worth it. Now then why "just" four years, well it's a big infastructure process, going under some of the most expensive property out there, when a project is of this size delays can be expected, but then the corona virus played it's part too in almost stopping the works at some parts of the line adding a bit of unexpected delay, and in the end the delay could have been much worse than four years.

I'm going from Heathrow to East Croydon in the summertime, and I'm looking at taking the Elizabeth line from Heathrow T3 to Farringdon for a Thameslink transfer. I know you have to change trains enroute at Paddington, but how efficient is the transfer between the west route and the east route there? I'm thinking that's probably the best route that doesn't involve the Tube.

This is temporary pending the full completion of the project (think the section between Heathrow/Reading and Abbey Wood is to link in September, with Shenfield following May next year) - the benefit is you can now get to Central London and other key places such as Canary Wharf a lot faster than you previously could on the Tube

This is not finished,its apolitical patsey for the three and half year delay. the moving walk ways in the new tunnels and illeligent ntice boards for the sevely disabled and blind have still not been install after a year.This as a concequence cannot comply with sign off for operations until complete. Further procrastination of these essential requirements means the line cannot be safely opened. Why is there no station at London City airport ?
@aidenstanley7305
@aidenstanley7305 2 года назад
There's no station at London City Airport as that was never in the plans for this version of the project and there's also a pretty quick connection through the DLR already, and as you've gotten that so ridiculously wrong I'll take everything else you say with a grain of salt. The stations other than Bond Street and Ilford are finished, and what are 'illeligent ntice boards for the severely disabled'? Surely you mean the signs that are already installed? Quite clear you don't know what you're talking about as you're saying it 'cannot comply with sign off for operations' on a video showing the passenger opening, proof that it in fact can and has done exactly that.
@RWL2012
@RWL2012 Год назад
@@aidenstanley7305 Yes it has "opened", but I won't consider it done until Bond Street has opened, and they manage to get the different signalling systems to play nicely together so that the line can run as one continuous line (as intended), rather than seperate East, Central and West sections that require a change of train to change from one to another. Hopefully both these things will be the case when I'm next in London in February 2023, even though I'll only be using the central section, if at all. Not sure what the OP was on about with moving walkways.

The Crossrail’s Elizabeth Line isn’t as great as vast majority of people think; for example there are far too many station-stops along the route for it to be considered a lot quicker than using the Underground. Prior to the opening, the outer ends of the route were National Rail branch lines, later incorporated into the Elizabeth Line, a lot of those stations had very little passenger usage. I can understand why the need for a branch to Reading, as Reading is a hub for tech firms and so Reading is an up and coming area. There was no need for a Elizabeth Line branch to Heathrow as Heathrow already has the Heathrow Express from Paddington. Most of the stations between Reading and Southall hardly see much passenger traffic, if there were far fewer stations on the Reading branch the Elizabeth Line service would have been so much faster. The same goes for the Shenfield branch, most of the stations on the Shenfield branch should not have been covered by the Elizabeth Line, in doing so would have made the Elizabeth Line faster. Considering the above points, and the fact that TfL is made up of university graduates, it’s utterly shocking that such highly educated employees can make utterly stupid decisions; just goes to prove that having a university Degree doesn’t necessarily make one intelligent.
@Xormac2
@Xormac2 2 года назад
The reason crossrail has been built was not for suburban high-speed transit but for relieving congestion from central and circle line in central London. So the stations cover key points and interchanges on the Central and circle but also they are still fewer than the aforementioned underground lines providing a much quicker travel (half time)

Most 465s I go on have broken seats, stink of the toilet tank stuff and have floors with air bubbles and covered with sticky beer! I personally think the interior design of the 345s is perfect, the wall colours match the seats and grab handles, and the different types of seats work well!

@@subwayexpress465 Not noticed much of what you said about those 465’s, as never on them long enough to notice, as for those Crossrail trains, never taken any notice of the colours, they are cattle trucks, full of us farm yard animals, I make a point about those Crossrail seating, as being far too hard, uncomfortable, the trains were not there to be enjoyed, and see passengers as being a problem with the same overcrowding, whether it’s 7 or 9 coaches, still problems of loading/unloading at peak times - Stratford heading towards Shenfield.

Crossrail is not worth it and will never be. Built with rose tinted glasses, much too late, and should have been built with double decker trains in mind, even if it meant widening or lowering track at stations. Lastly, it should be run by National govt, not TfL. Typical British leave alone stand offish attitude to everything nowadays and worse therefor.
@disappointingmarbleraces9028
If crossrail had double/decker trains, all the tracks or platforms would have to be raised. And then the GWR trains would probably be non-accessible.
