Monica, DLR equals Docklands Light Railway. It was created back in the 70s when the whole of the East End by the river, which had formerly been miles and miles of derelict docks, was redeveloped and mainly turned into domestic housing.
As a londoner who has been renting for a number of years, please get permission from your landlord in writing before removing furniture or drilling holes, or it will cost you.
I pay 750 a month for a pretty decent studio in Collier's Wood (Zone 3)... The difference goes on a monthly for a sports car I own (Jaguar F-Type), and I save the rest lol. Pretty much just a 35 y/o living my best life ha.
I live in this development too! It’s actually interesting to hear your thoughts on this place because I moved in over the summer and, honestly, I’ve had so many problems with my flat and the development that I’ve actually hated living here lol. But I’m glad it’s worked out for you😄
@@MonicaXGuan I would say the biggest problem for me is the sound proofing (or lack thereof). We hear so much noise from the flat above us that we basically have to live according to their schedule. Also, the windows aren’t sealed properly so all the heat or AC escapes depending on the season. And we’ve had broken lights, water leaks, damaged/faulty appliances, etc. so overall it hasn’t been great🙃The water/heat shortages + overpriced bills don’t help either haha
The sunset was the bomb! 🌄🌅🌇 beautiful city scapes! What a lovely clean & organised apartment!❤ you've made it look homely with all the plants & finishing touches, super cute! Also the bathroom👍😁
Definitely this! I use their compact cutlery organiser, and I can’t imagine taking up an entire drawer with a traditional organiser now! For utensils I actually use these drawer organisers from Addis (bought on Amazon but they sell them in a few places) - sturdy white plastic outside, and a grey non-slip base inside as well as non-slip feet. They come as a 3 pack in different sizes, so you can mix and match them depending on where they fit and where they make sense for you. I’ve got 2 sets and I use them in different drawers/cupboards, and the largest one in the pack is perfect for long cooking utensils, so I have two of those side by side in my cutlery drawer :)
I’m guessing you live in City Island because I recognise that beautiful view. Back in 2017 my family got offered a 4 bedroom flat in Harmony House which is that blue building in City Island. I really wanted my family to accept the offer but sadly car parking space was a big issue plus there’s hardly any nearby grocery stores etc which was why we rejected it. But honestly I would’ve lived there if it wasn’t for the issues and never get bored of that view 😍
This is really beautiful. Moving to London soon and looking to stay in East London. Any recommendations on apartment buildings like yours? I’d like to get something exactly like yours and the price seems fair. I’ll be happy to get off you :). Beautiful video too 💕
Hi Monica, I know it’s quite late for commenting but if you can still read it would you mind if I ask which area your apartment is situated? I’ve been struggling to find an apartment like yours within that price range (under 1300). May I ask how much did your monthly bills and council tax cost you? Thanks a bunch really appreciate it!
The flat indeed checks a lot of the boxes - close to the tube station, modern appartament complex, dryer and dishwasher included, etc. I noticed you're not hiding the view - can you please tell the name/general address of the apparent complex? Would like to look it up on other resources.
I don’t want to just put the building name out there if she doesn’t want to share it herself… but I was curious where it was too, and managed to “triangulate” the location using Google Maps in just a couple of mins :) If you want to do the same, my tip would be, open up Google Maps to Canning Town, look for the O2 dome as a reference point on the map, then look at where the dome appears in her balcony view… then use the “Spirited Away” train line as a guide, and you should get a rough idea of where all those points converge :) Then just click on some of the buildings - you might get photos of what the inside looks like right there, or you can Google for the building name and you’ll get tons of hits from property listing sites. Also I’m super jealous of this place! I live in north east London on the 4th/top floor of a building, and while I do have some amazing views and mine’s a 1 bedroom instead of a studio, it’s only 411 sq ft, and from the listings I found it seems like this is more like 530 sq ft, and it feels much more spacious in a lot of ways! I own mine though, and to buy a studio like this it seems like it would cost about 1.7x what I paid for my flat, which I definitely couldn’t afford! So I guess this is a fair trade off 😅 Good luck with your flathunting!
@@EmmaVB82 Thanks, that was very helpful! I'll try to search myself too:) Yeh, that's actually a good point - "flat price" / "rent price" may be a good criteria. BTW, is there some flat prices database? - I only saw "blind auctions" that deliberately hide the price...
I’m looking for a place in London and this looks perfect for me. I recognise it’s Canning Town, and I know it’s weird but would you mind telling me what building this is please?
Yeah I don't know if it's a British dishwasher thing or I'm just also bad at washing my dishes, but I've noticed that my dishwasher also started to stink when I used it a couple times.
Yaaaa so strange! I think it holds the humidity or something. It always feels damp. I leave it open whenever I can to let it dry out and that helps a bit. 😅
@@MonicaXGuan Tbh I just gave up and started washing everything by hand, since I live with a bunch of people and didn't want to be the one doing something wrong and making the dishwasher stink lol. But I'm really hoping when I get a flat in London I'll get one with a dishwasher, at which point I will fully experiment with the funky dishwashers!
@@MonicaXGuan Warning! I went to a party and was holding a glass of red wine, when someone accidentally knocked my elbow. Result one white shag pile carpet ruined!
You could always get one of those support cushions and/or backrests for the chair. I know it’s not ideal. But maybe an alternative to spending out on an office chair?
omg this is lovely!! do you find that it's in a good area with good transport links? I'm looking for a place and this looks amazing for the price but I imagine you sacrifice location for it too.
@@MonicaXGuan ooo nice! seeing your place has given me so much more hope for my search. I'm waiting to get a job so I can budget according to salary first but I would loooove to live in a studio or somewhere on my own but never thought I would find somewhere decent.
Jesus, this is amazing! Where exactly is this. Is it in the east of london? I'm planning to move out when I start uni this year and I'm looking at some apartments but this area is just amazing
Tudor, it's London E14. To any Londoner familiar with the history of this area, Monica's location is easily identifiable, but I'd better not be more precise in order to preserve Monica's privacy. Incidentally, for anyone thinking of moving to London for the first time, this area is very, very different to most of London and is the result of the redevelopment of all the old derelict docks, followed by all the development related to the London Olympic Games. Most London flats are converted Victorian houses and are usually small and awkwardly shaped. For the wealthier who can afford to live in the central areas, the flats are mostly converted Georgian houses, where the rooms are usually larger and better proportioned.
@@cosydream9750 It all depends on what you want and what you can afford. Elsewhere on RU-vid a young woman was suggesting Camden and Shoreditch as her favourites. They are very lively and full of things to do, but personally I wouldn't touch them with the proverbial 10 foot bargepole! For me the nicest areas to live in London are to the north or to the west. Going north once you are past Camden Town, the two branches of the Northern Line tube go through some pleasant suburbs. And to the west the District Line tube from Earl's Court all the way to Ealing, Richmond or Wimbledon is what I would suggest. My personal favourite of all the places I've lived is Chiswick. But be warned that even in the poorest suburbs London is very expensive, try and share with friends if possible to cut your living costs. Good luck!
Wow such a cute apartment!! I'm flat hunting with my fiance at the moment and we are looking at the Canning Town area as well. I love the views and the vibe of seeing the city but not actually in the middle of the chaos haha We haven't started to actually see any place just yet but I was wondering isn't it too noisy? We want to have a balcony as well but I feel like the motorway and the train near by will make it quite noisy? How is it from your apartment? Thank you 😊
Hmmm so when the windows and doors are closed you can't hear anything but ya from my direction there is the the white noise of cars if I open the window 😅 I don't find it too bad but ya depends on yourtolerancee haha also I don't go on the balcony too much
So far no negatives! Pretty safe area and essential things are close by (grocery, transportation, etc..). The only thing I would say is that the area is still developing so it doesn't have that quintessential "London" feeling I guess? haha
It's a very nice flat and cheap for London. Personally, I think you would benefit from living in a more central location e.g. West London like Notting Hill
