I joined LUL in 1987 as a guard earning £9,000 a year 30 years later as Train Operator l was earning £52,000 a year My guard in the seventies told me they used to sit around doing nothing nothing due to lack of train drivers.Loads of bus drivers moved to the Underground for better pay. Now drivers are earning £55,000 and everyone wants to be a tube driver,but they stopped recruiting years ago.How times change! I'm retired now with a very nice pension,thankyou very much.

Sir Richard, where are most vacancies? "Errr, most critically in the bus driving and conductor field and in the train engineering and operator field". Why didn't the interviewer follow up with - so in other words Sir Dick, the two most important elements of the bloody service!!

There was immigration,yes, but not OUT OF CONTROL,BIG DIFFERENCE...

Now most of these people are now dead.

Its still bad today nothings really changed maybe worse today.

The guy at 1:00 says his pay is just under £34 a week, but because of all the striking, his actual pay is £26 Instructions unclear: on strike to increase take home pay.

Couldn't become a bus driver unless you was a union member it was a closed shop then which is now illegal
