I've always been a trinket girl! But it's a coLLECTIOn of sentimental items over time! it should reflect your interest, not something to be copied and pasted from instagram or Pinterest.

Omg yes thats what made jane birkins bag, who inspired the “jane birkinify” trend and miu miu, so special. It was sentimental things she picked up over years. Now people are just attaching plastic and junk for the sake of the trend and looks like a soulless copy.

The US flag jumper is originally from Ralph Lauren, Tumblr was obsessed with it in the mid 2010s and it’s popular on Pinterest too… I remember wanting one as a teenager but not being able to pay the price, obviously! Something I often think about is how much stuff I would have bought into back then if it had been as accessible to me as it is nowadays to the younger generations. It’s a blessing and a curse

the slow fashion walk made some odd choices... I get the idea, but I think making the models parade in underwear with a wide blank cloth did them a disservice. Even to me who has studied art and performance a bit, it looks like they didn't put too much thought into it. I feel like the reveal wouldn't have been as underwhelming if the white cloth at least featured some smaller, unfinished embroidery to represent the time that goes into making them, they even could've left the cotton strands and needles hang from the unfinished embroidery to give people a more kinesthetic experience by association, to make them imagine someone's hand picking up the needle and making these flowers stitch by stitch. The way they did it, it's unclear what the show is about until you see the final piece which is already unusual for these types of events.
@katierobinson
@katierobinson 17 дней назад
kinda do agree that more could have been done with the white cloths!! i think the overall message of the show got across well but it was a bit jarring seeing nothing but naked models + white sheets for a while 😅
@elisecccccccc
@elisecccccccc 15 дней назад
Yes! I also think that the models with the blank sheets makes you focus on lack (of a broader collection) vs catering to a show on a single piece. So much climate focused work focuses on cutting back and not on imagining new worlds through what we stand to gain. I like your idea much better!

Funnily enough when hearing about this bag charm trend, it reminded me of Japanese fashion that has been happening for a lot longer where people have large key rings to show of their likes and personality. To make their everyday bag less boring. It just interesting how overpriced these new bag attachments are in the Western part of the world! Also so excited to find a new podcast! Love your work!

i’ve been wearing bag charms for over a decade (i’m pretty young) with a VERY slow and gradual accumulation of keyings, figurines, plushies, pins, and photocards on my bag reflecting the games, characters, and communities i’m part of… so sad to see it just get ‘trendified’ because i find it so inorganic.

I love decorating my bag with pins and charms, but as much as possible, I try to thrift the charms and buy the pins from local artists that represent my interests at that point in time. The idea of buying charms or bag pins for the ✨️ aesthetic ✨️ sounds especially wasteful once the trend dies because of just how easy it is to throw away charms in the trash. Experience alone at thrift shops tell me that these kinds of charms have trended before, and they get donated all the time

Who buy Miu Miu purse charms ? I know the answer rich parents for their kids! My friend work at this luxury spa/perfume boutique where I live and rich kids just bring there parents to the boutique to let them know which perfume they want to buy (and we are talking about 500$ to 800$ a bottle of perfume) and parents are willingly paying them the perfume of course it for “performing well in school “ or getting in college and passing there exams kind of presents but still so luxury brand or just tapping in that market of rich millennials parents willing to pay for luxury trinkets for there kids 😂

Lets talk about Tammam for a second, staging a show just to present a single dress is wasteful in its own right. Let’s not forget that fashion shows have a carbon footprint as well, not just the clothes that we see on the runway. I’d rather them do a digital “show” where they talk about the concept rather than stage a full blown catwalk for a single dress.
@katierobinson
@katierobinson 16 дней назад
very good point! i’m not sure what the impact of the show was but tbf it looked quite chill to me, no extra staging seemed to have been made but idk about other emissions that may have factored in! do agree that digital catwalks need to be more commonplace

An example of a celebrity brand collab I liked was Role Model and Oddli. They are a smaller, US based brand and they created a small limited edition collection with him that seemed really fun. While this a much smaller artist, I wish other celebrities would do more hand-crafted collabs like this and just make the ability to buy a raffle or something.

Also on this same topic, I was kinda shocked after going to a Niall Horan concert because he had specific merch for each city. I don't know what the quantities are for each show, but I'd imagine this creates so much waste of shirts that can never be sold again. I think musicians should also be more mindful about who they are creating merch with and how much they produce. So much of it is mass produced t shirts which people hardly ever wear again.

Idk about luxury bag charms but i like charms from indie artists or fanmade merch. Also I'm a pompom sucker. I have 2 pompoms for some of my bags so.. it's a callback to feeling like I'm in grade school with backpack charms jingling around😂 there's something very primal and animalistic about us humans wanting to show off our life trophies in mini forms on our carrying containers, like mystic talismans or wards. Now with little collectible dolls like Pop-Mart sells being in Vogue, having a little clear carrying keychain to bring them along with you is another fun trend instead of just having them sit still and lonely in your house.

Curated charms from big brands is kind of bot behavior because if you ask someone why they bought it there’s no real story besides it’s cute vs people who have some sort of charm collections. I have a few in my big grocery tote bag but they’re all trinkets k got while traveling. These products could be a step towards sustainability. I believe Hermes has been doing trinkets with their leather scraps for years…but in the hands of all these brands who only see money signs it’s pushing towards buy buy buy. Idk. If Zara is doing it then I know it’s not with good sustainability intentions.
