@@WhiskyMystery it has been over 5 years since I have been through Heathrow but seem to remember a World of Whisky shop in one of the terminals (5?)? Really enjoyed you scoping this out!
Hard to believe any distiller is still bottling 40abv expressions… happy to learn the journey back was uneventful and successful all the way around. Great conclusion to a wonderful journey. Thank you both for letting us join the tour, memorable times wall to wall.
Thanks for the great Videos. The best content on youtube. Happy that the trip ended well for you and you managed the way through to the highlights. Wish I was there too. Only two hour flight for me to scotland but you need time. Hope I can find the time in the nearer future. Caperdonich was a great distillery. Have some Old Malt Cask ones in my collection. Tastewhise I love the peated Caperdonichs. Had a few of them. I love the peat style a lot. The green box in the shop of the 21 year old shows the unpeated style. The peated ones come in grey. 18, 21, 25 and 30 I think, peated and unpeated versions. 18 and 21 peated are fantastic drams. Would be interesting for you too I think. The 18 is affordable too. But also happy that you are back home and the weekly Lives can go on 🙂 Can not wait to see the unboxing of the bags.
Hi guys, Just got around to watching this. Last time through Heathrow we did not have time to look around. Like you we had a bunch of whisky in our suitcase. Interesting to see the travel specials. Cheers!
A timely browse through Heathrow duty free. I'll be passing through in two weeks so this was a great preview. Doubt that I'll be picking up that 33 y.o. Craigellachie though. Spied a Glenturret 12 in an Amsterdam shop's online site. That just may make it in my suitcase. Welcome home✈✈✈.
Interesting...To answer your question, Glen Deveron & The Deveron are the official brand names of Macduff distillery a coastal Eastern Highlands distillery founded in 1960. It belongs to the Bacardi group which owns Craigellachie too for instance. That blue box/label Glen Scotia is the "1832" version for travel retail, one of my favorite whisky label & bottle too...It is a slightly different than the "Double-Cask" recipe but basically also ex-Bourbon & ex-PX Sherry, you should have taken one ! I have it home but alas no reserve bottle...The 2017 batch is beautiful, dont know about those from now...Cheers !
@@WhiskyMystery oh yeah, me too...forgot to say I pretty much doubt that the Caperdonich is not coloured, imho....this colour is suspect, especially the reflections/look of it...I'm usually good to guess these things...
The only Duty Free that offered anything like a good deal was Moscow. Bangkok prices were so high that it would have been cheaper to go to a supermarket here in Japan.
@@WhiskyMystery seems they once were. This week I visited DFs at Dominican Republic, Panama and Chile, and chilean supermarkets are cheaper, except for cigarretes. O% in customs tariff do help.
Brilliant! Glad you made it back safely! I’ll be passing thru LHR a bit later this month. Surprised to see a Caperdonich in travel retail! Are any of your acquisitions going in the blind tasting? 🥃
Some interesting bottles that I haven't seen before! Made me think of the clip from the TV show "Parks & Recreation" where the character Ron Swanson goes to a Lowes hardware store.....ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IEhHEOIYgMY.html Phil was much more subtle with his hints😉 Looking forward to the "un-bagging" of the whisky!
Heathrow is NOT a good place to shop for whisky. Watch out for the red tags which indicate a special but regular price items can be quite expensive. You can often buy cheaper retail.
@@WhiskyMystery I don't know, never bought one. I'd seen it in Dubai and Perth and maybe also Frankfurt. I got a springbank 15yo in koln, a laphroaig 10yo cask strength in Frankfurt and an Ardbeg corryvreckan on the way back through perth. I sometimes laugh when the sales rep, and i know they're just trying to make a living, try to educate me on Whisky and make a sale Come from Scotland and have drank whisky for over 30 years.
@@WhiskyMystery I always thought over a liter you had to pay the duty on entrance. Interesting. I'm not much of a whiskey drinker, but I'm collecting bottles to have an Irish Whiskey tasting in the near future. My dad was a scotch drinker, but his go-to was Chivas Regal, he liked the cheaper blends over the GlenFiddich I bought him.
@@ddreese Technically yes over 1L you must declare or risk losing it. But the duty is so small it is not worth the trouble to collect. They appreciate the honesty of declaring though.
@@WhiskyMystery I usually declare the value of the booze along with other purchases instead of the number of bottles. My purchases are nowhere near the value of yours.
@@WhiskyMystery Thanks. Good to know.. I have only brought 7 or 8 bottles on our last trip. The last 3 were purchased at LHR Duty Free! Best prices were in Gibraltar!
